Lester O. 'Les' Christensen

Former Holstein resident, Lester O. ‘Les’ Christensen, 95, of Creston, Iowa, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at Creston Nursing & Rehab Center, Creston, Iowa.

Services will be Thursday, June 27, 2002; 1:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Lester O. ‘Les’ Christensen was born icon January 14, 1907 in the Territory of Oklahoma near Shawnee to Andrew R. & Dora (Jacobsen) Christensen, the 3rd of 7 siblings. Oklahoma became a state, November 16th of that same year. At the age of two, he moved with his family to the Holstein, Nebraska area where he spent the majority of his life. In 1923, at the age of 16, he became a member of the United Evangelical Church in Holstein, now Grace United Methodist Church. At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of the congregation, having been a member for 79 years. In 1924, he graduated from Holstein High School. In addition to doing other work in the community, he gradually became engaged in farming. On May 19, 1929, he married Florence Esther Austin of Juniata, Nebraska at the First Methodist Church in Hastings, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1991. They spent their entire married life of 62 years in the Holstein community, actively involved together in farming until approximately 1980. At that time, they built a home in Holstein, Nebraska. He took an active part in the community. Throughout the years he would serve on the Holstein School Board and as a trustee of Grace United Methodist Church. He helped to chair the church’s building committee when the church was remodeled and its addition was built in the early 1960's. He served as Sunday School Superintendent in the late 1940's. In his later farming years, he served on the elevator boards in both Holstein and Juniata, Nebraska. In the 1980's he enjoyed membership in the Holstein Lions Club. After the death of Florence, he remained in Holstein until March of 1994 when he moved to Orchard Park in Lincoln, Nebraska for 5 ½ years before going to a nursing home in Creston, Iowa.

Lester O. ‘Les’ Christensen was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters, Vinita, Roy, Etta, Edna, Velda and Glenn.

Wayne J. Niemeyer

Hastings resident, Wayne J. Niemeyer, 75, of 631 So. Bellevue, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare Park Place, Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, June 27, 2002; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Wayne J. Niemeyer was born icon November 22, 1926 in Webster County, Nebraska to Chris & Hazel (Gerloff) Niemeyer. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines on August 26, 1943 until August 28, 1944. He then served in the Army Transportation Corp from November 25, 1944 until July 14, 1945. He owned and operated a swimming pool supply and repair company before serving in the United States Air Force, retiring December 10, 1976. He then worked for Leslie’s Pool Supply in Modesto, California before moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1989. He purchased homes for rentals.

Wayne. J. Niemeyer was preceded in death by his parents.

Andrew W. Peterson

Andrew W. Peterson, 38, of 236 Courtland, Trumbull, Nebraska, died June 26, 2002 at his home.

Services will be Saturday, June 29, 2002; 1:00 P.M. at Evangelical Free Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Matt Sass officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska.

Andrew W. Peterson was born icon May 26, 1964 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Leroy & Cleo (Anderson) Peterson. He graduated from Trumbull High School and received a certificate as a draftsman from Central Community College, Hastings, Nebraska. He married Audrey Burge on April 6, 1991 and they later divorced. He was a machine operator for Nebraska Aluminum Castings Inc. He was a member of Evangelical Free Church. He was a past volunteer for the Trumbull fire department and civil defense. He was a life long area resident.

Andrew W. Peterson was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rachel and an infant son, Philip and his grandparents.

Merle Pedersen

Former Hastings resident, Merle Pedersen, 70, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Kansas City, Missouri.

Services will be Wednesday, July 3, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Merle Pedersen was born icon July 31, 1931 in Hastings, Nebraska to Waldemar & Frieda (Classen) Pedersen. He moved with his family from Juniata, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska in 1945. He graduated from Hastings Senior High in 1949. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. On April 22, 1951, he married Patricia Anderson. He worked for Debus Bakery and later became a life insurance salesman in Hastings, Nebraska until 1977. He moved to Bentonville, Arkansas and then to Kansas City, Missouri in 1991.

Merle Pedersen was preceded in death by his parents.

Helen B. Blank, 90, 4150 West 82nd St., Hastings, Nebraska, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Perkins Pavilion.

Rosary will be Sunday, April 7, 2002; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 8, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Helen B. Blank was born icon February 26, 1912 in Fillmore County near Milligan, Nebraska to Matt & Grace (Rogers) Trobough. She married Norvell F. Blank on October 10, 1954. They moved from Norfolk, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska in 1968. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Helen B. Blank was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 grandson and a great granddaughter.

Margarette L. Bostock was born icon November 16, 1912 in Adams County to William & Ella D. (Druecker) Reiboldt. On October 7, 1934, she married Ollie Bostock in Hastings, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on their farm. She was a member of Ayr Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and a member of the Ladies Aid. After the church closing, they became members of Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska.

Margarette Bostock was preceded in death by her parents, step father, Rudy Hibbler, grandson, Gary M. Graham, sister, Leta Stromer, brother, Irvin Reiboldt and a son-in-law, Murle Graham.

Naomi A. Weeks was born icon January 2, 1924 in Hastings, Nebraska to John G. & Matilda (Kohlberg) Anderson. She graduated from high school and married Thane Weeks on August 14, 1945. She was a homemaker and a life long Adams County resident.

Naomi A. Weeks was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Alan Weeks.
