Dorothea E. Glantz, 96, of Perkins Pavilion, died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Saturday, April 26, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Sacia Vik officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Dorothea E. Glantz was born
March 22, 1907 in Guide Rock, Nebraska to Walter & Lillie Mae (Dean) Oberheide. She graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1925. On September 3, 1930, she married Emil E. ‘Boomer’ Glantz and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1972. She was a seamstress for Phillip’s Smart Shoppe for many years. Additionally, she was a member and officer in many organizations including First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church WELCA #1, Women’s Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, past Grand Chief of the Phythian Sisters, the Paramount Lodge #873 of the Trainmen’s Auxiliary, and a 50 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Dorothea E. Glantz was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Emil, an infant brother, one sister, Waldolene Rehtus and one brother, Dean Oberheide.

Velma B. Bienhoff
Former Hastings resident, Velma B. Bienhoff, 79, of Kenesaw Haven Home, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at Haven Home.
Memorial services will be Saturday, April 19, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd with Pastor John Lee Ross officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, Nebraska at a later date.
Velma B. Bienhoff was born
August 14, 1923 in Topaz, Missouri, to Edward James & Edna Pearl (Sloan) Hines. She graduated from Cabool High School, Cabool, Missouri. She married Orville Bienhoff on October 7, 1944 in Columbus, Georgia and he preceded her in death on October 17, 2000. She moved from Macon, Nebraska to Hastings in July of 1961. She was a nurses aide at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd and a past volunteer at Good Samaritan Village and the Hastings Police Department where she received the Hastings Police Department Senior Volunteer Award on November 23, 1996.

Donald E. Kottwitz, 59, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings, died Monday, April 14, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Thursday, April 17, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Stacey L. Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Donald E. Kottwitz was born
February 12, 1944 in Hastings, Nebraska to Erwin C. & Gerda E. (Stubbe) Kottwitz. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School and attended Central Community College. He served in the Nebraska National Guard during the Vietnam War from January 18, 1965 to January 17, 1971. On August 23, 1970, he married Deborah Steffen. He worked for Chief Industries in Grand Island, Nebraska for over 25 years. He was a member of the First Church of God, Hastings, Nebraska. He was a life long resident of central Nebraska.
Donald E. Kottwitz was preceded in death by his parents, 1 nephew and 1 great nephew.

Laura E. Colburn Hiatt was born
September 1, 1905 in Waverly, Ohio to William & Sara (Green) Colburn. She graduated from Eckley High School near Lawrence, Nebraska. She married Vern Hiatt in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on November 7, 1926 and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1969. She moved from Edgar, Nebraska to Hastings in the 1940's. During WWII, she worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church . She was active in Adams County Senior Services.

Marion Hazel Seberg was born
April 23, 1927 in Watertown, Florida to John & Bessie (Morgan) Johnson. She graduated from Leon High School, Tallahassee, Florida in 1945. She graduated from Florida State University in 1948 and was a member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of the Gamma Epsilon Chemistry Honorary Society. On September 6, 1949, she married John Raymond Seberg in Tallahassee, Florida. She moved from Tallahassee to Hastings, Nebraska after her marriage. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Auxiliary, P.E.O. Chapter HT, D.A.R., Y.W.C.A., Shrine Auxiliary, Book Club and several bridge clubs.

Linda S. Cheyney Howard was born
September 29, 1948 in Hastings, Nebraska to Marvin LeRoy & Naomi (Richardson) Cheyney. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1968 and attended Nurses Training at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. On January 10, 1982, she married David A. Howard in Grand Island, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1996. She was a CNA at the Hastings Regional Center and a member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a life long Hastings resident.

Jeffrey Jerome Patten, 18, 528 S. Garfield, Hastings, Nebraska, died Friday, April 11, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident near Clay Center, Nebraska.

Jeffrey Jerome Patten was born
May 5, 1984 in Omaha, Nebraska to Russell G. & Donna (Andersen) Patten. He graduated from Hastings High School in 2002. He was a past employee of T & L Irrigation. He was a member of Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd and had been involved in Boy Scouts. He enjoyed working with import cars.

Former Hastings resident, Anna F. Kathman, 81, of SilverRidge Assisted Living Community, Gretna, Nebraska, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at SilverRidge.
Rosary service will be Friday, April 11, 2003; 7:45 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 12, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Anna F. Kathman was born
May 1, 1921 in Winnett, Montana to Carl & Ada (Byford) Schmidt. She married George A. Kathman on May 19, 1942 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Helena, Montana. They moved to a farm south of Lawrence, Nebraska where they farmed until their retirement in 1979 and then moved into Hastings, Nebraska. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society before moving to SilverRidge Assisted Living Community in Gretna.
Anna F. Kathman was preceded in death by her husband, George on October 15, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Virginia Jablonski.

Albert J. Scribner, 76, of 132 Ringland Rd., died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Thursday, April 10, 2003; 2:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, Nebraska.
Albert J. Scribner was born
July 31, 1926 in York, Nebraska to Albert Benjamin & Vera Mildred (Jones) Scribner. He left high school after the 9th grade in 1943 to join the United States Navy. He served from 1943 to 1947, holding the rank of Seaman First Class and served after basic training in the Pacific Theater of Operations, aboard the USS Rudyerd Bay CVE 81 during WWII. For his military service, he received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal (5 stars), Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Stripe. On December 20, 1946, he married Eileen Joyce Keairnes in Sioux City, Iowa and she preceded him in death in 1992. They lived in the Hamilton County Nebraska area, where he worked privately until November of 1948 when he began working for the Naval Ammunition Depot until October of 1949 when the plant went on standby. He moved his family to Sloan, Iowa and worked at a machine shop until September 1950 when they returned to Hastings, Nebraska. He again worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot until the end of December, 1965. He then went to Grand Island Cornhusker Ordinance Plant, retiring from there in 1973. He then worked for 15 years at Thomson Oil Company, retiring in August of 1989. He was a member of NARFE and AARP. He was also a member of the American Legion Club and the V.F.W., both in Hastings, Nebraska.
