Hastings resident, Debra S. Wiedel, 42, of 2519 West 6th, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary service will be Saturday, July 5, 2003; 9:30 A.M. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Debra S. Wiedel was born icon January 10, 1961 in Columbus, Nebraska to Robert B. & Sharon S. (George) Wiedel. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska with her family from Broken Bow, Nebraska in 1969. She graduated from Hastings High School. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Debra S. Wiedel was preceded in death by her father, Robert, grandfather, William George and grandparents, John & Gertrude Wiedel.

Survivors include,
Mother: Sharon Wiedel - Hastings, NE
Brother & Sister-in-law: Mark R. & Karen Wiedel - Omaha, NE
Grandmother: Mildred George - Lincoln, NE
Aunts, Uncles and numerous cousins.

Michelle K. 'Shelly' Fergus

Former Hastings resident, Michelle K. ‘Shelly’ Fergus, 34, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Monday, July 7, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Michelle K. ‘Shelly’ Fergus was born icon April 23, 1969 in Hastings, Nebraska to Stephen W. & Nancy K. (Stilson) Fergus. She graduated from Hastings High School and worked at Martin Lutheran Homes of Nebraska before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1999. She was a care giver for Bethphage in Omaha. She moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa in March of 2003. She was active in Habitat For Humanity in Omaha and a past member of First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska.

Michelle K. ‘Shelly’ Fergus was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alice & Ralph Stilson, grandfather, Ralph Fergus, and a cousin, Nicholas Fergus.

Survivors include,

Lorene M. Betz

Lorene M. Betz, 90, died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at her home.

Services were Tuesday, September 2, 2003; 1:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial was in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Lorene M. Betz was born icon June 29, 1913 in Blue Hill, Nebraska to Lee and Luella (Martin) James. She graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1930. She taught in Hilltop School, near Campbell, Nebraska. She married Reynold Betz on January 31, 1932 in Smith Center, Kansas and he preceded her in death on March 2, 1971. They lived in Red Cloud for a few years in the 1940's where she operated a produce buying station for Swift & Company. They moved to Campbell, Nebraska where they raised thousands of turkeys and operated a dairy farm for several years. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1963, due to Mr. Betz’s failing health. She was an office employee of Sears Roebuck and J.M. McDonalds. She was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Campbell, Nebraska.

Lorene M. Betz was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Reynold and one son, Robert.

Nona Anna Jaycox

Nona Anna Jaycox, 92, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Perkins Pavilion in Hastings, Nebraska.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, September 3, 2003; 11:00 A.M. at Parkview Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Boeschen officiating.

Nona Anna Jaycox was born icon May 19, 1911 in Deshler, Nebraska to Harm and Helene (Polfus) Collman. She married Rex Jaycox in Belleville, Kansas on December 18, 1940. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1989. She was a former manager of the Heritage Manor in Hastings, Nebraska. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings.

Nona Anna Jaycox was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rex Jaycox, one son, Gary Jaycox, one grandson, Ronald Job, two sisters, Kathryn Brettman & Alma Mohler and one brother, Walter (Bud) Collman.

Survivors include,

James Raymond Mefford

James Raymond Mefford, 83, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings, died Friday, August 29, 2003 at The Kensington.

Services were Tuesday, September 2, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Heuer officiating. Burial with military rites was in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

James Raymond Mefford was born icon April 11, 1920 in Hastings, Nebraska to Alviro & Geraldine (Lambert) Mefford. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1939 and served in the United States Army during WWII from January 31, 1942 to October 8, 1945. He worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot, Hastings, Nebraska and later at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant, Grand Island, Nebraska. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

James Raymond Mefford was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include,

Maurice M. Stahnke

Maurice M. Stahnke, 80, of Haven Home, Kenesaw, Nebraska, died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Haven Home.

Services will be Tuesday, September 2, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska, with Pastor Tim Semotan officiating. Burial will be in Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska.

Maurice M. Stahnke was born icon December 19, 1922 in Clay County, near Glenvil, Nebraska to August & Carrie (Mosier) Stahnke. He graduated from Glenvil High School. He was a farmer before working for Kothe Construction. Later on, he worked as a janitor at Hastings Medical Park. He married Leona (Tanner) Kothe in Hastings and they later divorced. He moved from Glenvil to Hastings in 1977. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Nebraska Polled Hereford Association, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was an avid hunter and trapper. He was a life long area resident.

Maurice M. Stahnke was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, two infant brothers, brothers Raymond and Frederick, niece, nephew-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law.

Peter S. Bonifas, 89, of Roseland, Nebraska, died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary service will be Sunday, August 31, 2003; 7:00 P.M. at Assumption Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 1, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra and Father David Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Assumption Catholic Cemetery.

Peter S. Bonifas was born icon September 5, 1913 in Adams County, Nebraska on the farm, near Roseland to John & Margaret (Seyler) Bonifas. He married Aileen Klein on October 6, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland, Nebraska. He was a farmer and a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Honorary Lifemember 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council in Roseland-Assumption, Nebraska, Honorary Lifemember 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council in Hastings, Nebraska and Senior Citizens in Roseland. He was a past member of the Roseland Lions Club, Co-op Grain & Supply Board of Directors, Roseland State Bank Board of Directors, Roseland School Board District 42 and Holstein Rural Fire Department

Peter S. Bonifas was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John James Bonifas, one brother and four sisters.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, August 27, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Ralph Ford officiating. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. No viewing or visitation.

Vivian A. Briggs was born icon December 20, 1916 in Mullen, Nebraska to Walter A. & Grace (Mintun) Sailor. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in the 1930's. She owned and operated Vivian’s Beauty Shop, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Vivian A. Briggs was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Anna H. Hollingshead Gitt, 102, of Perkins Pavilion, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Wednesday, August 27, 2003; 10;30 A.M. at All Saints Chapel Good Samaritan Village with Rev. Art Schakat officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Anna H. Hollingshead Gitt was born icon January 23, 1901 in Hildreth, Nebraska, to Henry & Anna (Wolken) Jurgens. She married Herman Hollingshead on October 24, 1923 in Hildreth, Nebraska and he preceded her in death in December of 1966. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska in the early 1950's from Hildreth, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church. On June 3, 1970, she married James Gitt and he preceded her in death in 1984.

Anna H. Hollingshead Gitt was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Herman Hollingshead and James Gitt, 1 son, Lavern Hollingshead, 1 great grandson, 1 sister and 5 brothers.
