William Svoboda, 86, of Good Samaritan Village, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Rosary will be Monday, November 10, 2003; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 11, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
William Svoboda was born
September 6, 1917 in Lawrence, Nebraska to Anton & Francis (Juranek) Svoboda. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1935 and on September 11, 1939, married Hildegard Venhause at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 2002. They farmed in the Lawrence & Blue Hill, Nebraska area before moving to Good Samaritan Village in 1983. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska
William Svoboda was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Hildegard, two sisters and two brothers.

Roger A. Lammers, 60, of 10565 South Antioch Ave., Glenvil, Nebraska died Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Wednesday, November 5, 2003; 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Nebraska with Pastor Bernie Ward-Crixell officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska.
Roger A. Lammers was born
January 11, 1943 in Webster County, Nebraska to Ernest & Anna (Jackson) Lammers. He graduated in 1961 from Red Cloud High School, Red Cloud, Nebraska. On April 21, 1968 he married Delores “Dee” F. Garrelts at Glenvil Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was in the Army Reserves for six years and served in Vietnam in 1968-1969. He was a member of Glenvil Immanuel Lutheran Church, former member of the Glenvil American Legion and Hastings V.F.W. He was a farmer in the Glenvil area.

Ian W. Parry
Hastings resident, Ian Parry, 65, of #63 Kingston Dr., died Monday, December 29, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at a later date.
He was born
February 9, 1938 in Cottage Hospital, Urmston, Manchester, England to Thomas William & Annie (Whittaker) Parry. He was raised and educated in Sale, Manchester, England. He also attended school for die cutting. He farmed and later worked for a folding carton company. He married Barbara Pedley on March 14, 1964 and they later divorced in 1990. He came from England to Norfolk, Virginia in 1972 and worked for a folding carton company. He moved to Hastings, Nebraska in February 1992. He worked for Great Plains Packing and retired in 2002. He was president of the Eagles Aerie #592. He was active in pool and dart leagues.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Elizabeth Jeanne Beck, 68, of 5801 Quail Ridge Ave., Hastings, Nebraska, passed away December 31, 2003 at Mary Lanning Hospital.
Services will be Saturday, January 3, 2004; 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. James Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska
Elizabeth Jeanne Beck was born
December 8, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska to Donald & Harriet (Vette) Hosford. She grew up in Omaha with her younger sister, Barbara and brother Don. She attended her first year of college at Monticello College in Illinois, then graduated from the University of Nebraska. Betty was active in the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and affiliated with Alpha Kappa Delta honorary. She married William Lorne Beck on January 12, 1957. They lived in Hastings with their children, Jeanne, Barbara, Cathy and Scott. She was involved in the Presbyterian Church , local book clubs, birthday clubs and P.E.O. Chapter G. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening and reading.
Elizabeth Jeanne Beck was preceded in death by her parents.
She will be greatly missed by her family & friends.

Hastings resident, Mary Beth Sykes, 60, of 2424Osborne Dr. East, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at her home.
Services will be Monday, January 5, 2004; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska, with Pastor Larry Spomer officiating. Burial will be in Kearney City Cemetery, Kearney, Nebraska.
She was born
August 3, 1943 in Clay Center, Nebraska to Ernest W. & Rosemary (Hakanson) Brennfoerder. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1961 and from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1965 with a degree in Secondary Education. She taught school in Gretna & Kearney, Nebraska. She later worked at the Platte River State Park and moved from Omaha, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska in 2003. She was the Activity Assistant at Perkins Pavilion. She was active in church, liked to read and her family was important to her.
She was preceded in death by her father, daughter, Michelle Sykes and a brother Bill Brennfoerder.

Services will be Friday, January 2, 2004; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Paul Knott officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Mr. Chaon was born
October 6, 1945 in San Francisco, California to Donald J. A. & Alice E. (Herboldsheimer) Chaon. He graduated from Potter High School and served in the United States Navy from June 11, 1963 to September 27, 1967. On September 9, 1967, he married Carolyn Joy Kesselring in Sidney, Nebraska. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad, living in eastern and western Nebraska and Colorado. He attended the Berean Bible Church, Hastings, Nebraska. He enjoyed wildlife, bird watching, photography, fishing, gardening and collecting western memorabilia and stamps.
Mr. Chaon was preceded in death by his father, Donald J.A. Chaon.

Mabel H. Aiken
Mabel Hendrick Aiken, a resident of The Kensington, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.
Memorial service will be Friday, January 2, 2004, 11:00 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ with co-officiants Pastor Barry Rempp & Karen Roback officiating. Private family interment at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Mabel was born
in Thayer, Iowa, on February 13, 1913, to Felix and Millie (Zahller) Hendrick. She was the second of five children. When she was nine, the family moved to a farm near O’Neill, Nebraska.
A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill, Mabel attended Wayne State Teacher’s College and the University of Minnesota. She taught school in rural Holt County and at Campbell, Nebraska. During World War II, she was an instructor of radio operating at the Army Air Field Training School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, teaching Morse code to the soldiers. On July 3, 1944, Mabel married William F. Aiken in Sioux Falls. They moved to Hastings in 1948, where Bill worked as a pharmacist, and she was a substitute teacher in the Hastings Public Schools for 20 years.
Mabel was an active member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years. She was active in the Retired Teachers Association, Friendly Dozen Extension Club, Book Club, Friendship Tea and the Y.W.C.A.
Mabel is survived by two daughters, Susan K. Kiel, formerly of Grand Island and Nancy Miller, of Portland, Oregon, two granddaughters, Teresa Johnson of Lincoln, and Kristi Kiel of Portland, Oregon, two great granddaughters of Lincoln, and sister Helen Alm of O’Neill. Her husband, Bill, brother George Hendrick, and sisters Margaret Stewart and Mary Jo Deao preceded her in death.
The family requests memorial gifts be given to the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Hastings.

Former Hastings resident, Mildred Aldinger, 96, of Beverly Healthcare at Lakeview, Grand Island, Nebraska, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare at Lakeview.

Mildred Aldinger was born
April 2, 1907 in Hastings, Nebraska to Martin & Marie (Swanson) Martson. She grew up in Hastings, Nebraska and married William Ross on December 10, 1927 and they later divorced. She moved to Los Angels, California and on September 18, 1962, she married Carl Aldinger. He preceded her in death in 1972. She returned to Hastings, Nebraska in 1973 and moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in 2001. She was a homemaker .
Mildred Aldinger was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl, son William Ross, Jr. and a brother, Arvid Martson.

Dean A. Glassmyer, 69, of 2609 W. 3rd St., Hastings, Nebraska, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Friday, January 2, 2004; 10:00 A. M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska with Ken Ellis officiating. Burial with military rites by Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard will be 2:00 P. M. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
He was born
December 24, 1934 in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania to Edward & Eva (Ericsson) Glassmyer. He graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1952 and joined the United States Air Force on October 11, 1954 and retired on October 31, 1976. He married Joan C. Wallis in Little Rock, Arkansas on November 6, 1959. He was stationed with the U.S. Air Force Detachment 10 (SAC) at Hastings, Nebraska. He retired from Great Plains Chrysler-Dodge in 2001. He was a member of the Church of Christ and V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward & Eric Glassmyer and three sisters, Natalie Eavey, Barbara (Thompson) Mueller and Carolyn Zimmerman.
