Services will be Wednesday, December 31, 2003; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Lillian O. Phinney was born
October 29, 1910 in Inland, Nebraska to Jacob & Katherine (Sittner) Helzer. She graduated from Hastings High School and married Elton M. Phinney on September 9, 1940 in Smith Center, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1963. She was a homemaker and a past member of the Eagles.
Lillian O. Phinney was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elton, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Marie A. Klein, 84, of Haven Home of Kenesaw, Nebraska, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Haven Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 31, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Steven Major officiating. She was born
July 12, 1919 in Juniata, Nebraska to John & Theresa (Hemberger) Loskill. She married Orville P. Klein on July 7, 1948 at Assumption, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on December 21, 2001. They resided in Hastings, Nebraska until 1975 when they moved to Kearney, Nebraska. In 1997, they moved to Kenesaw, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and a member of St. James Catholic Church, Kearney, Nebraska. While in Hastings, she attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orville, an infant son, two grandchildren, Peter & Patricia Klein, three brothers, LaVern, Edward & John Jr. Loskill, sister, Bernadine Reise and an infant sister, Hilda Loskill.

Viola E. Herzog
Viola E. Herzog, 91, of Good Samaritan Village, died Friday, December 26, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Tuesday, December 30, 2003; 2:00 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald E. Boeschen officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Viola E. Herzog was born
May 14, 1912 in Clay County, near Sutton, Nebraska to Albert & Mary (Frenzen) Goesch. She attended grade school in Fillmore County and graduated in 1929 from Sutton High School. Following graduation, she taught school near Fairmont and Sutton, Nebraska. On June 3, 1931, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Herzog of Edgar, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1998. They resided on a farm between Edgar and Sutton and later on farms in Fillmore, York and Clay Counties. While living in Fillmore County, she was active in Extension Club and was a 4-H Sewing Club Leader. She was active in her church, teaching Sunday School, sewing, and taking part in the women’s organizations. In 1976, they retired in Hastings, Nebraska and in 1993, moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Viola E. Herzog was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles and a great grandson, Lucas Jalas in 1997.

Former Hastings resident, LaVerne D. Sawicki, 77, of 2440 NW 2nd Ave., Lincoln, Nebraska, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Tabitha Care Center, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Sunday, December 28, 2003; 7:00 P. M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska. Services will be Monday, December 29, 2003; 10:30 A. M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
LaVerne D. Sawicki was born
June 26, 1926 in Farwell, Nebraska to John & Clara (Jonak) Sawicki. He attended Farwell and Ashton High Schools in Nebraska. He attended CCC in Hastings for two years and attended the Denver School of Commerce for one year. He served in the United States Army during WWII, 188th Parachute Regiment from September 26, 1944 to November 29, 1946. He received the Bronze Star while in the Army. On February 23, 1952, he married Esther L. Ostendorf in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was a manager of Wheelers and later was a postal clerk both in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and a past member of the Eagles and DAV.

Vivian Toben was born
May 22, 1941 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Amil & Sarah (Walker) McHugh. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1959. She was a legal secretary until she married Ron Toben, on January 29, 1963. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies Aid and also worked as church secretary for a number of years. She was on the Ladies Board for the Cedarview Cemetery Association. She enjoyed many activities with her grandchildren, reading and spending the winters in Arizona the past 7 years.

Naomi Junker was born
March 22, 1934 in Red Cloud, Nebraska to Fred & Laura (Lemmerman) Rippen. She moved with her family to Hastings, Nebraska in 1943 and to Greeley, Colorado, where she graduated from High School. She then moved to Denver, Colorado and back to Hastings, Nebraska. On June 12, 1955, she married Robert J. Junker at Christ Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary in Juniata and the V.F.W Auxiliary in Hastings.

Rolland ‘Butch’ Williams was born
August 5, 1933 in Fairfield, Nebraska to Frank & Berniece (Lewis) Williams. He moved with his family at the age of one to Harvard, Nebraska and attended Harvard School. He began moving homes with his father in 1946. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from January 15, 1955 until March 22, 1957. He married Lucille J. Weaver on March 28, 1954 and she preceded him in death on September 9, 1985. Williams Brothers began as a company in 1961 until 1981. Then with his son, Alan, in 1982, started Williams & Son Moving Company. He was a secretary for Midwest House Movers Associating for many years. He was a life long area resident.
