Doris N. Johnson

Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000

Minden resident Doris N. (Smith) Johnson, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Kearney County Health Services Long Term Care Unit in Minden.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Terry Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 3, 1921, to George and Edna (Ofield) Smith in Norman. She grew up in the Norman area and graduated from high school there. On Dec. 15, 1939, she married Cecil Johnson. They farmed in the Osco area. She taught Sunday school and Bible school for several years at Osco Baptist Church. She and her husband moved into Minden in 1974. Her husband preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are one daughter, Betty Royse of Holdrege; one son, Kenneth of Kearney; two foster children, Linda Dahlheim of Hastings and Terry Johnson of Omaha; four sisters, Maxine Albers and Jeanette Hansen, both of Minden, Esther Andersen of Shickley and Elaine Guilkey of Superior; two brothers, LeRoy of Minden and Harold of Carpenteria, Calif.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Hubert A. Kimminau

Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000

Lawrence resident Hubert A. Kimminau, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.

Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Sunday and services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence with the Rev. Dennis Hunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery south of Lawrence. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kimminau was born July 19, 1907, to Frank and Emma (Musenbrock) Kimminau in Lawrence. He attended St. Stephen's school. He farmed until moving to Denver in 1956. He ran a concession truck business for 16 years and worked as a custodian for five years at a Catholic church and school in Denver. On Aug. 16, 1973, he married Etta M. Shields in Denver. They moved to Lawrence in 1978. His wife preceded him in death in 1993.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Lawrence.

Survivors are two stepsons, Tom Shields of Denver and Philip Shields of Lincoln; one brother, Ted of Superior; three sisters, Mary Kimminau, Clara White and Margaret Brockman, all of Denver.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Robert was a veteran of The United States Navy.
