Herbert Gydesen
10/03/1922 - 2/2/2005
Herbert “Slim” Gydesen, 82, of Minatare, passed away at his home February 2, 2005 with family and friends by his side, after a battle with cancer. At Slim’s request lunch will be served for family and friends at noon prior to the funeral at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel meeting room. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home between 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday.
Slim was born October 3, 1922 to Jacob and Nora (Dutcher) Gydesen at Scotia, Nebraska. He was an owner operator truck driver for Cohn Wholesale in Sioux City, IA for seventeen years. He married Arlene on May 30, 1982 in Elko, Nevada. They owned and operated the Ponderosa Tavern for three and a half years. He drove truck for the power plant at Craig, CO and worked for Peter Kiewit for two years at Rangely, Co and then retired. After his retirement they purchased a trailer court in Minatare and renamed it Country Acres.
For many years, he looked forward to an annual deer hunt with his brother and sons. He enjoyed fishing with his soul mate Arlene, fishing all summer with his grandson Justin, and many fishing trips with his children. Slim and Arlene enjoyed trips to Prairie Wind Casino via the America Star Bus where he and the other passengers became best of friends.
He loved eating breakfast out and his favorite place was the Log Cabin in Gering. He enjoyed friends and acquaintances and had a big smile when he greeted them. He enjoyed life and all who knew him enjoyed him.
He is survived by his wife Arlene, grandson Justin Webb of Minatare, sons and daughter-in-law: Perry and Sharon Gydesen of Odell, NE and Michael Gydesen of Aberdeen, SD, daughter and son-in-law: Tami and Kent Herbold of Spencer, IA; sister: Annie Kasselder of Pine Bluffs, WY; sister-in-law: Ruby and Dale Larson of Williston, ND; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 1 step great great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and many friends.
Slim was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers: Jake, Bill, Fred, Norman and Elmer; one sister: Ethel and a stepson Rocky Webb.
The Herbert "Slim" Gydesen Memorial Fund has been established in care of the family.

Lucille E. Zwiebel
02/15/1923 - 2/4/2005
Lucille E. Zwiebel, 81 of Morrill, died Friday, February 4, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Morrill with Pastor Barry Warpness officiating. Cremation will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. A private family inurnment will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
Lucille was born February 15, 1923 in Sweetwater, NE to Willie Walter and Eda Matilda (Olsen) Johnson. She was raised near Fullerton and Newman Grove, NE and graduated from Newman Grove high school in 1940. She attended Hastings College for one year. She married Orville Zwiebel May 30, 1945 in Omaha, NE. They lived in Omaha until coming toHenry and later moving to Morrill in 1947.
Lucille loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her life was one of service to others, including serving as District President of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Regional West Medical Center Volunteer, the North Platte Valley Historical Society and Morrill Civic groups.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Jeane and Doug MacPherson of Sonoma, CA; sons and daughters-in-law: Rod and Shari Zwiebel of Greeley, CO, Terry and Yvonne Zwiebel of Norfolk, NE and Sgt. Brian and Danine Zwiebel if Badenberg, Germany; grandchildren: Alex Ross of Napa, California, Bill and Glenna Zwiebel of Lyman, NE, Justin Zwiebel of Henry, NE, Micah Zwiebel and her fiancé Scott Krohns of Albion, NE, Amanda Zwiebel of Lincoln, NE, Morgan Zwiebel and Katie Zwiebel both Germany and Great Grandchildren: Brittany Zwiebel of Lyman, NE, Tate Zwiebel of Albion, Ne and Garrett Zwiebel of Lyman, NE; Brothers and sister-in-law: Warren and Winnie Johnson of Sheboygan, WI and Carroll Johnson of Denver, CO; sister: Clara Belle Carnevalo of Omaha, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orville and her brothers Mirl and Wayne.
Memorial to Trinity Lutheran Church or to donor's choice.

Fern Ann France
07/08/1916 - 2/9/2005
Fern Ann France, 88, of Gering died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Crest View Care Center in Chadron.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at Christ The King Church with Father Gerald Harr and Father Stephen Deaver officiating. A vigil service will be held 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.

She was born July 8, 1916 in Naper, NE to Dan and Mae (Bruning) Klein. She attended Basic rural school, took Normal Training during high school which prepared her to teach, and began her teaching career right out high school. She met her husband, Harold in Lynch at a free-wedding dance and they were married in Naper on June 4, 1937, on her parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. They lived in Lynch, Ainsworth, Minatare, Bayard and Gering for nearly 50 years until Harold died as the result of a motorcycle accident in November 1986.

She taught in Boyd County, Ainsworth Dist #21, Long Pine, both Snell Dist. #25 and Minatare Public Schools, and the last 20 of her 35 years in McKinley and Geil Schools in Gering. During these years, she also earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education at Chadron State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was awarded a life-time teaching certificate. She dedicated her life to her church and “her kids”, mostly second graders, none of whom could get past her until they could read! She retired from Gering in May 1979 to care for her ill husband. During the school years of 1979-1983, she helped her daughter at Ready Steps Pre-School to keep in touch with the little people.

She is survived by 4 daughters and their husbands; Janet (John) Ensser of Bayard, Mary-Ann (Bill) Hessler and Deanna (Doug) Keszler all of Gering, and Delores (Lyle) Kelley of Scottsbluff. Grandchildren include; Angela (Timothy) Dillman, Wade (Siendra) Kelley, and Julie (Justin) Julian; Mark Keszler and Jennifer (Aaron) Thorson; Kimberly (Wade) Soule, Sherri (Mark) Anderson, Brian Hessler, Ryan Ensser, Leisa (Jim) Roberts, and Kirby (Gloria) Ensser; 16 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Geraldine France Spelts of Lynch, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, parents, an infant sister, and sister Lyla Klein Engelhaupt preceded her in death.

Jesse C. Judd, Sr.
06/23/1904 - 4/6/2005

Jesse C. Judd, Sr., 100 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Beverly Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park with Nancy Steele officiating.

He was born on June 23, 1904 at Thurman, Iowa to Joseph Lane and Minerva Bethel (Curtis) Judd and received his education at Thurman. He married Cleda Mildred Sharr on April 10, 1926 at Bedford, Iowa. Jesse worked for Pathfinder Irrigation District for over 30 years.

Survivors include his son Jesse C. Judd, Jr. (Donna); grandchildren Lee Judd of Glenwood Springs, Co. and Colleen (Phil) Kelly of Scottsbluff; great grandchild Candice Judd of Chadron; brother Cecil Judd of Pickering, MO; sister-in-law Mary Birkenholz of Malvern, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Charlene "Charley" Mae Rader
04/28/1931 - 4/8/2005

Charlene “Charley” Mae Rader of Gering, Nebraska, mother of Joe (Carol) Rader of Enfield, CT, Bob (Marie) Rader of Gering and Janet (Dennis) Spencer of North Platte, NE. died Friday, April 8, 2005 at Wel-Life in Scottsbluff. She was 73 years old.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.

She was born on April 28, 1931 in Bevier, Missouri to Charles and Josephine (Guffy) Royer. She attended Macon County, Missouri public schools. She was baptized in the Christian faith as a child.

She married Robert S. Rader on May 18, 1948 in Nebraska City. They lived in Nebraska City, Omaha, Blair and Ogallala, NE before moving to Gering in 1970. She retired as a baker from Scottsbluff High School.

She was a friend of Bill W.’s for 18 years. Her joys were sewing, enjoying nature and spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by her three children; brother Jim (Phyllis) Royer of Nebraska City, sister Virginia Slightom of La Plate, MO; grandchildren: Tammy Meyers (Shayne) of Uncasville, CT, Robert (Mary) Rader of Enfield, CT, Becky (John) Semancik of Enfield, CT, Jason (Kate) Rader of Crete, NE, April (David) Hessler of Wellington, CO, Heather (Ronn) Coon of Delevan, NY and Amber (Scott) Earhart of Curtis, NE; great grandchildren: Emilly, Ryan & Amanda Rader, Hannah & Emma Meyers, Andrew Semancik, Anakin Hessler, McConnor & Dakota Coon, Jade & Jessi Earhart and Samuel Rader. Also she is survived by special friends Del & Shirley Krauter of Ogallala, Sharon and Alan Doll and family of Gering and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Audrey Rohr.

Edith Esther Loutzenhiser
04/16/1922 - 4/10/2005
E. Esther Loutzenhiser, 82, of Modesto, CA, formerly of Minatare, NE, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Hy-lond Health Care Center in Modesto. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2005 at the Assembly of God Church in Minatare, NE with Pastor Dwight Sandoz officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
Esther was born April 16, 1922 in Bridgeport, NE to Forrest and Florence (Paine) Wagner. Esther began her career in teaching at the age of 17 at school district #132 between Broadwater and Lisco, NE. She later taught at district #42 for three years and at South Highland in Scotts Bluff County for two years. She married Bud Loutzenhiser December 28, 1945. She resumed her teaching career in 1952 teaching in country schools. In 1960 she began teaching in Minatare where she taught for twenty-seven years. She graduated from Chadron State Teacher’s College in 1982.
Esther was a member of Assembly of God Church in Minatare and the Nebraska Educators Association.
Esther is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Bob Lee and Mary Loutzenhiser of Bayard, NE; and Gary Lynn and Debbie Loutzenhiser of Ames, IA; daughters and sons-in-law: Jodie and Bruce Held of Boone, IA; and Lori and David Kline of Modesto, CA; sister, : Mabel Gerhardt of Fox Island, WA; and 12 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, brothers Claude and John Wagner and sister Myrtle Nelson.

Bernice Carmody
12/21/1908 - 4/12/2005
Bernice Carmody, 96, of Gering died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering. Funeral services will be 10:00 Friday, April 15, 2005 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Linda Battello officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Foster Grandparent’s Program.

Bernice was born December 21, 1908 in Arcadia, NE to Joe and Hattie (Norris) Lonsdale. She grew up and graduated from high school in Arcadia. She married Alvin Bradley, November 1930. They came to Scottsbluff in 1944. Bernice worked at the Copper Kettle, Tom & Jerry’s in Gering and was a Foster Grandparent at McKinley and Lincoln schools in Gering until she was 90 years old.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gering, a past member of the Royal Neighbors, Foster Grandparents and a quilting club.

Bernice is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Melvin and Darlene Carmody of Plano, TX, Marvin and Pam Carmody of Mount Vernon, New Hampshire, and Robert and Linda Carmody of Granby, CO; daughters and sons-in-law: Shirley and Larry DeAndrea of Granby, CO and Sharon and Frank Wooden of Scottsbluff, NE; brother and sister-in-law: Virgil and Odette Lonsdale of Anaheim, CA; 11 grandchildren: Doug, Kathy, Mike, Jim, Bill, Don, Shaun and Aaron Carmody and Greg, Cyndee and Julie Wooden; several great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, husband in 1961, 1 brother and 1 grandson, little Melvin.

Betty Mae Seip

Betty M. Seip, 80, of Scottsbluff died April 11, 2005, surrounded by family and friends, following a courageous battle against a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 2 pm at Plymouth Congregational Church, 743 Wintercreek Dr, Scottsbluff with Rev Rod Wetzig officiating. Cremation and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Plymouth Congregational Church, American Cancer Society, or the Lupus Foundation of America.
Betty Mae was born February 16, 1925 to Raymond “Bud” and Margaret (Knox) Krull at Sprague, NE. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942, moving to Scottsbluff in 1944. She married Keith Seip on April 28, 1945, in Long Beach, CA while he was in the Navy. She was employed by the State of NE Health Dept, Farmers Insurance Group, GAC Finance Co, Dr. Calvin Oba, and retired from Scottsbluff Junior High-Middle School after 25 years as secretary to the principal.
Betty was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church - serving on several boards, a charter member of Rebecca Winters Genealogical Society, charter member of Nebraska State Genealogical Society, and also a member of Kathadin Chapter DAR. She was a survivor of ovarian cancer in 1987. Her hobbies were genealogy, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, and reading. She was very close to her family and loved them dearly.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Galen and Julia Seip of Scottsbluff, daughter Diona Copsey of Guernsey WY; Grandchildren Daren Seip of Gordon NE, Lori (Copsey) and Shane Morales and Amy Copsey all of Guernsey, Andee (Seip) Hardesty of Lincoln, and Christine (Bay) and Phil Darley of Scottsbluff; Great-Grandchildren Kayla Copsey, Chelsey Sinner, Courtney Sinner, Spencer Darley, Kyler Copsey, Sarah Fedorchik, Cody Darley, Austin Hardesty, Jordan Hardesty, Tiersa Darley and Kassidy Morales; Twin Brother and Sister and their spouses Lyle and Shirley Krull and Laurel and Don Lacy all of Long Beach WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Keith on November 11, 1999, her parents and parents in-law, sister Virginia Ahlstedt, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
