Dora Otte

Dora Otte, 96 of Columbus, NE died Monday, December 11, 2000 at the Colonial Manor in Clarkson, NE.

Services will be Saturday, December 16, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. at the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus with Rev. John E. Nelson Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, December 15, 2000 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the church with a 12:45 P.M. family prayer service.

Dora Otte was born icon in Volkwardingen, Germany on March 1, 1904 to August Peter & Marie Theodora (Stolte) Hoins. She was baptized and confirmed in Bisbingen, Germany. Dora came to the United States at the age of 19. On January 16, 1925 she married Henry Grotelueschen in Council Bluffs, IA. They lived in the Christ Lutheran vicinity before moving to Denver, CO where Henry died on August 10, 1930. She returned to Columbus and on May 11, 1932 she married Herman Otte in Bisbingen, Germany. Herman died on December 13, 1962. Dora was a past Chairman and a life long member of the Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, she was a member of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League, and also involved in the Christ Lutheran Ladies Sewing Club.

David Scow

David Scow, 75, of Columbus, NE died Saturday, December 30, 2000 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, NE. A memorial service will be Tuesday, January 2, 2001, 11:00 A.M., at the Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with the Revs. Don Wilson and Dorsie Ivy officiating. Interment will be at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, NE. Visitation will be on Monday, January 1, 2001 from 5:00 - 7:30 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home.

David C. Scow was born icon May 13, 1925 in Shelby, NE to Fred and Nellie (Roberts) Scow. David attended school in Polk County, NE and graduated from Shelby High School. He married Maxine Pickrel in 1943. In 1990 he married Phyllis Hyde in Columbus. David was a realtor for Re/MAX Total Realty Co. and farmed and had feed cattle in Polk County. He has lived in Columbus for the last 20 Years. David was a member of the Federated Church, a former member of Elks Country Club and the Columbus Board of Realtors.

ESTHER E. SCHUMACHER

Esther E. Schumacher, 86, of Columbus, NE died Tuesday, August 01, 2000 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Columbus, NE on Thursday, August 03, 2000 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at First United Methodist Church in Columbus on Thursday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
Esther E. Schumacher, 86, was born icon September 11, 1913 to Fred and Rebecca (Brock) Ernst in Columbus, NE. She attended Columbus Public Schools. She married Albert H. Schumacher on November 30, 1 933 in Columbus. She was employed as a retail sales clerk and retired from Boyd Hardware.
Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Keystone Fellowship and the Tuesday Morning Bible Study group.
Memorials are to the First United Methodist Memorial Fund or the Federated Church Building Fund.

Clarence Wilken

Clarence Wilken, 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska), died Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Homestead Healthcare in Lincoln.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2003, 11:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church, Columbus, Nebraska with Rev. John E. Nelson Jr. officiating. There will be a private family interment at Columbus Cemetery. There is no visitation. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 A.M. on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church of donor's choice.

Clarence Wilken was born icon May 27, 1912 in Platte County, Nebraska to August L. and Emma W. (Krumland) Wilken. Clarence attended school at Christ Lutheran School. Clarence married Shirley Rector in March of 1940 in Fremont, NE. He farmed for a while in the Platte County area. He went to work for Nielsen Chevrolet and then owned the Studebaker Dealership in Columbus for many years. Clarence then went to work for Prudential Life Insurance Co. and worked for them for 45 years. In February of 1977 he married Betty Oxley in Lincoln, NE. He retired from prudential in 2000. He was active in the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and also the Columbus Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Clarence was formerly on the Columbus City Council and a member of the Evening Lions Club. In Lincoln, he was a member of the Executive Club and First Lutheran Church.

Olive L. Sterup

Olive Lenora Sterup, 91, of Columbus, Nebraska, died September 5, 2002 at the Gretna Community Care Center in Gretna, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Gass Haney Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Marty Barnhart officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Twin Valley Church Building Program.

Olive was born icon August 26, 1911 on a farm north of Osceola, Nebraska to John L and Ida May (Eyler) Carter. She received her elementary education in the Polk County rural schools and was a graduate of Shelby High School. On October 10, 1931, she and Harry Sterup were united in marriage in Athol, Kansas. Three sons - Tom, Dick, and Jim - comprised the family. Olive and Harry were involved in the farming operation until 1956 when they left the farm and moved to Columbus, Nebraska. While in Columbus, Olive worked at Dale Electronics. She also assisted Harry in the bowling business at the Boulevard Lanes in Columbus and later at the Skybowl in Schuyler. In 1962, Olive and Harry built a home in Osceola and resided there until 1972 at which time they moved into a mobile home located beside a sand pit near Clear Creek.
Olive was widowed in September 1974. In her 28 years of being a widow, she traveled throughout the 48 continental states, Alaska and Hawaii. During those years she also spent considerable time with her extended family in California and Oregon as well as those in Nebraska. The time she spent with her extended family helped bring the family together for the annual John L. and Ida May Carter family reunion.
In addition to traveling and family, Olive enjoyed reading, playing cards, board games, and handwork. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Aeire No. 1834 in Columbus and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Henrietta Wilke

Henrietta Wilke, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, September 12, 2002 at her home. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Revs. Richard Bringewatt and Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitations will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran School Tuition Fund, the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation - Nebraska Chapter, or donors choice.

Henrietta E. Wilke was born icon May 16, 1917 in rural Platte County to Otto and Bertha (Grotelueschen) Korte. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Columbus. She attended Christ Lutheran School. On October 13, 1940, she married Herbert Wilke at Christ Lutheran Church. Ten years later they moved into Columbus where they were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. For several years, Henrietta did house cleaning.
She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, raising many flowers and preparing baked goods for friends and family. She sang in the church choir for many years, was an active member of the Evening Guild and a charter member of Altar Guild.

William (Bill) Sutton, 45, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, October 25, 2002 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.

William (Bill) R. Sutton was born icon November 8, 1956 in Riverside, California to Fred and Julia (Murray) Sutton. He attended grade school in Friend, Nebraska before moving to Columbus. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1975. He married Sandra Brandt on June 24, 1977. Bill worked for Husker Co-op for 17 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
