Lee Charles Stinson
Lee Charles Stinson, 52, of Alling, Germany, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, died April 5, 2002 at his home in Germany. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2002 at 3:00 PM in the Junior High School Auditorium at the Munich International School in Germany. A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at the Columbus Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating Lee's life, will be held at the Gass Haney Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2002.
Lee was born
March 5, 1950 in Annapolis, Maryland to Charles and Tina (Dadds) Stinson. They moved to Ames, Iowa and then to Columbus, Nebraska. His father's career took the family to Albuquerque, New Mexico for three years and he gained a little sister Kim during that time. As a sixth grader, he returned with his family to Columbus where he always considered his roots to be. He set high goals for himself and achieved recognition in academics and sports, especially tennis, during his high school years. Lifetime friendships were formed in the Columbus High School Band. One of these friends, Katie McCamley was later to become his bride.
Upon graduating from Columbus High, Lee entered the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the rigorous discipline enforced upon them, he and his cadet friends expended a great deal of energy and creativity contriving pranks to play upon one another and these stories have become the most enduring legacy of those West Point years.
After his four years at West Point, Lee married his high school sweetheart. His primary posts as a young officer were in El Paso, Texas and in Mannheim and Darmstadt, Germany. The bonds formed abroad were to affect his future permanently because he embraced not only the people he encountered, but Germany as a whole and he gained an international perspective that was to guide him toward the next stage of his career.
The decision to move into the field of electronics was not a random one. Seeking a company in which colleagues treated one another with respect and caring, Lee knew from his father's experience that Dale Electronics based in Columbus was the right choice. Dales also offered him the possibility of working internationally. After gaining experience in Columbus and Norfolk, Nebraska, Lee took a year off to earn a masters degree at the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona. During that year he also became the proud father of Perry Nash Stinson. In the course of those young adult years in the USA his family of friends grew too.
In 1981, Lee and Katie packed up dog, cat and baby to resettle in Bavaria where Lee worked in Dales' Munich office, which was eventually absorbed by Vishay Electronics. Having learned the ins and outs of the electronics industry in Europe, Lee was well equipped for his next career move which was to establish a European presence for TTI, a Texas-based distributor of electronic components. Starting in his basement with one telephone, one fax machine and one loyal colleague, Lee took a father's pride in nurturing TTI's European operations into a company that included a vast network of employees with large warehouse and sales facilities in Puchheim, Germany, plus sales offices throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. A sense of humor, a sense of teamwork and a sense of family were the ingredients of his management style. He knew every employee's name and every employee knew his laugh.
Lee was a people person who modeled his life after his own Dad's. In his final conversation with Perry, his words were "We're a good team." Everybody who was close to Lee knew the good feeling of being on his team.
Lee is survived by:
Spouse - Kathy (McCamley) Stinson - Alling, Germany,
Son - Perry Stinson - Edinburgh, Scotland
Sister - Kimberly (Mike) Querry - Papillion, NE
Nephew - Ryan Querry - Papillion, NE
