Edith L. Vlasak 92, of Columbus, NE died Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Osceola Good Samaritan Center in Osceola, NE.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, NE on Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the Circle Mound Cemetery in Rising City, NE on Tuesday at 5:00 P.M.. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 P.M. and at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.

Edith L. Vlasak was born icon October 4, 1908 in Marion, NE to Herbert & Mary (Stephens) Treadway. Edith attended schools in Surprise and David City and then went to Kearney State College. On March 27, 1932 she married Evans Vlasak in David City. Edith worked as a sales clerk at Schwesers in Columbus for many years. Edith was the Past Worthy Matron and Secretary of the Eastern Star. She was a lifetime member of the Columbus PTA and was active in the Methodist Women's Society. Edith was a soloist at church and sang at many funerals as music was a large part of her life. She also enjoyed baking and her children and friends were very fond of her cinnamon rolls.

Wade Wendt

Wade W. Wendt, 16, of Leigh, Nebraska died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2001, 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh with Father Mel Wiese officiating. Interment will be at the Leigh City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 25, 2001 from 3:00 - 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M., and on Tuesday from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh.

Wade W. Wendt was born icon on May 20, 1985 in Columbus, Nebraska to Gary and Linda (Schroeder) Wendt. Wade attended Leigh High School where he enjoyed playing football and lifting weights. He also loved spending time with his two sisters and was also very active in the 4-H Club and taking care of his cattle. Wade was currently working at the Pheasant Ridge Confinements in Stanton, NE.

Olga Leona Schutte

Olga L. Schutte, 87, of Leigh, Nebraska, died Sunday, June 17, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska. Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, Rural Columbus, Nebraska on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Rural Platte County. From Columbus, the church is located 1 mile north of Lake North on 18th Ave. and 4.5 miles east. (There is a detour as you go north on 18th Ave. out of Columbus. Follow the detour signs to the east 1 mile, 2 miles north and 1 mile back west to the Lake North corner.) (If you are coming from the east on Hiway 30 into Columbus, go north at E 44th Ave., which is at the Wayne Feed corner, to the "T" and then east one half mile.)

Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 21, 2001 from 9:30 AM until service time.

Olga was born icon November 6, 1913 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to August and Anna (Koch) Hake. She attended rural school. Olga was the second of seven children and helped work on the family farm. She married Wurnewald (W.E.) Schutte on May 3, 1933 at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed together for nine years in rural Madison, Nebraska before purchasing the farm where she still lived south of Leigh, Nebraska.
Olga was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was the Quilting Chairman for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and following the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Leigh Rescue Unit.

Thomas Sitterley

Thomas Sitterley, 43, of Platte Center, Nebraska died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital.

Services are Friday, 10:30 AM, August 3, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, Nebraska with Revs. Scott and Charlotte Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery Grand Prairie, rural Platte Center Nebraska. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2001 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Friday, August 3, 2001 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with family prayer service at 10:15 AM.

Thomas Sitterley was born icon December 19, 1957 in Jefferson City, MO to George and Betty (Lewis) Sitterley. Thomas graduated from High School in Jefferson City and then graduated from the Broadcast Center college in St. Louis, MO. On September 11, 1982,Tom married Marcia Hroch in Beatrice, NE. In 1987 they moved to Columbus, NE where he worked as a Advertising Sales Representative for 17 years for KLIR and KJSK radio stations. Tom was very active at Lakeview High School where he was a past member of their School Board. He was also an announcer for their softball games and helped take care of the fields. He also coached baseball for 4 years and helped in getting their midget football program started. Tom was also involved in the community Can Caravan and also took part in the community picnics.

FRED L. SHAW

Fred L. Shaw, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, December 3, 2000 at the Columbus Manor in Columbus, Nebraska.

Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Masonic Rites will be by Lebanon Lodge #323 A.F. & A.M. Interment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Hartman Post 84.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home.

Fred L. Shaw was born icon June 17, 1908 in Huntington, Indiana to Earl and Dessie (Shroyer) Shaw. He served in Army Air Force during World War II from February 27, 1943 to October 15, 1945. Fred married Wilhelmina Borneman on October 6, 1945 in Columbus, they lived in Elwood, Indiana and moved to Columbus in 1956. He was a salesman for Carl A. Anderson Co. retiring in 1973. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Past Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters, Past Master of Lebanon Lodge #323 A.F. & A.M., Past Worthy Patron of Harmony Chapter #13 O.E.S., Past High Priest of Royal Arch Masons Orient Chapter #18 York Rite, Past Illustrious Master of Gebal Council #12 Cryptic Masons and Past Commander of Gethsemane Commandery #21 Knights Templar.

BERTHA LOUISE WURDEMAN

Bertha L. (Mrs. Adolf) Wurdeman, 96, of Columbus, died Monday, July 24, 2000 at the Schuyler Nursing Center in Schuyler, Nebraska. Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus, NE on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. John E. Nelson Jr. and the Rev. Glen Wurdeman officiating. Interment will be at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery in rural Columbus, NE.
Visitation will be held at the Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, NE on Wednesday, July 26, 2000, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus, NE on Thursday, July 27, 2000, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service Thursday, July 27, 2000 at 10:15 AM in the fellowship hall at the church.

Bertha L. Wurdeman, 96, was born icon February 19, 1904 to Fred and Elizabeth (Harnapp) Sander in rural Creston, Nebraska. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Leigh, Nebraska. On March 17, 1918 she reaffirmed her Christian faith through confirmation at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Bertha attended grade school and graduated from high school in Creston, Nebraska.
She then attended the Lincoln Normal School for Teachers and taught in several rural school districts in the Creston Nebraska area. On April 9, 1926, Bertha married Adolf Wurdeman at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus, NE. Together they farmed in the Christ Lutheran area.

Bertha was an avid gardener and a master quilter. She enjoyed braiding rugs and crocheting. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Ladies Aid and the church quilting group.
Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Camp Luther or the Donors Choice.
