Linda Lee Cornia

08-06-1959 - 7/23/2004

Linda Lee Cornia (DeBoer), 44, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died at her parents home in Morrill, NE, on July 23, 2004. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 30, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Mitchell with Rev. Robert Wigert officiating. Linda was a colorful person in life and requested that no black be worn at her funeral. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park.

Linda was born on August 6, 1959, to Bill and Janice DeBoer of Morill Nebraska. She attended Fairview School from kindergarten to 8th grade. Linda then attended Mitchell High School from 9th to 12th grade, and attended college at Wesleyan University in Lincoln. She was a Medical Technician in Laramie, WY, worked at Design Center in Denver, CO, and held several other jobs.

Linda was an avid quilter and belonged to several quilt organizations. She loved her nieces and nephews very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She made all the Halloween costumes for them and their friends.

Linda is survived by her parents Bill and Janice DeBoer of Morrill, NE; brother Billy DeBoer and wife LeAnn and their children Alexis, Erika, and Riley DeBoer of Morrill; brother Bobby DeBoer and wife Shelley and their child Seth DeBoer of Gering; sister Jana Kelly (DeBoer) and her children MacKenzie, Morgan, and Connor Kelly of Cheyenne Wyoming; and long time friend Irma Smith (Kakuda). Linda was preceded in death by her grandparents Jim and Vesta DeBoer; and Ed and Sylvia Fulton.

Howard L. Burnell

10/08/1925 - 7/27/2004

Howard L. Burnell, 78 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Taffy Gould officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Memorials have been established to the American Lung Association, North West Parkinson’s Foundation or to Gering School’s Foundation. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Howard was born on October 8, 1925 in Independence, Iowa to Oscar and Anna (Laeder) Burnell. He received his education in Iowa and Illinois. He married Goldie McFall in 1950 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He entered the United States Air Force on December 13, 1943 and served during WWII and Korea and was honorably discharged May 11, 1952. The couple lived in Rapid City for a few years and Michigan, moving to Scottsbluff in 1964. Howard and his brother-in-law, Forrest McFall started the Panhandle Paint & Tile Company. Later he was a self employed Floor Contractor.
Howard was a past member of the Elks and VFW.
He enjoyed working and loved his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Goldie; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Tim Propp of Gering; son and daughter –in-law Dana and Kathryn Burnell of Sammamish, WA.; grandchildren Jessica, Jenna and Mandy Propp of Gering, Devin and Lacey Burnell of Sammamish, WA.; brothers Harry and Ed and sister Margaret.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.

Midgie Alice Nelson

09/23/1931 - 7/26/2004

Midgie Alice Nelson, 72, of Gering died at her home Monday July 26, 2004 with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 30 at the Monument Bible Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 9:00A.M. til 8:00 P.M. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel of Scottsbluff.

Midgie was born on September 23, 1931 to John and Bessie Amos of Comstock, Nebraska. She attended grade school and graduated from high school in Comstock. She was united in marriage to Russell Nelson on October 2, 1948 in Comstock.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She enjoyed cooking, going to her grandchildren’s ball games, and bowling.

Midgie is survived by her husband Russell Nelson; daughters Sue and husband Lee Hall, Deb and husband Jim Payne, Laurie and husband Doug Hauser, all of Gering, Jackie and husband Tim Lordino and Shelly Hoagland of Scottsbluff, daughter-in-law Carolyn Nelson of Minatare; sisters Becky Marsh of Comstock, Bonnie Plumb of Omaha and Arvilla Amos of Iowa; brothers Maynard Amos of Oregon and John Amos of Scottsbluff. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Gerald Nelson of Minatare; 9 brothers and 2 sisters.

Esther Schmidt

03/31/1924 - 7/27/2004

Esther Schmidt, 80, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Amos Harris officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff.
Esther was born March 31, 1924 at Scottsbluff to Conrad and Margaret Elizabeth (Peppler) Propp. She received her early education in Scottsbluff. She married Ishmael Kissler Schmidt on April 5, 1946 at Scottsbluff.
Esther was a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church where she was employed as the custodian for twenty-three years retiring in 2000. Esther was also an honorary member of the Gering Fireman’s Auxiliary.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and loved to cook, sew, work in her yard and raise roses.
She is survived by her son, Wayne (Delores) Schmidt of Placentia, CA; daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Grubb of Scottsbluff; and son, Michael (Amanda) Schmidt of Scottsbluff; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Meisner of Scottsbluff; Dorothy Nuss of Gering and a brother, George Propp of Lincoln.
Her husband, Ishmael K. Schmidt; her parents; brothers, Philip Propp, Victor Propp and Leonard Propp; sisters Millie Wegelin and a baby sister Lydia preceded her in death.

James Berl King

01/14/1941 - 7/29/2004

James (Jim) Berl King passed away July 29, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. At Jim’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004. A graveside service will be held at Rushville Fairview Cemetery at 3:00p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004.

Jim was born on January 14, 1941 in Rushville to Robert Earl and Jessie (Keethler) King. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1959. He joined the Navy on October 19, 1961. Her served as a machinist mate on the U.S.S. Ernest G. Small off the coast of Vietnam in the Sough China Sea. He was honorably discharged October 18, 1967.

Jim and Norma J. Cushing were married July 29, 1972 in Hot Springs, S.D. and had two daughters, Michelle Lee and Jamie Rae. Jim and Norma were later divorced.
Jim later married Connie Ricketts on May 15, 1998.

Jim worked at the City of Scottsbluff, B&C Steel, and prior to that, at various construction jobs. He was an avid fisherman and received numerous Master Angler awards. Other hobbies were hunting, oil painting, gardening, and cooking.

Survivors include his wife Connie and his ex-wife Norma; daughters Jamie and Michelle; grandson Kreyton; sisters and brothers-in-law Arlene and Jerry Chambless of Summertown, TN; Eva and Skip Johnston of Scottsbluff; half brothers Dean Ross of California and Wayne Ross of Rushville; step-children, step-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother Dale King, his parents, four half-brothers and a half-sister.

Kenneth Harold Korell

02/22/1926 - 12/27/2005

Kenneth Harold Korell, 79 of rural Bayard, Nebraska, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Northfield Assembly of God in Gering with Pastor Phil Parker officiating. Interment will be at the Bayard Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard.

Kenneth Harold and his twin brother Wayne Gerald were born February 22, 1926 in Culbertson, NE. to Lawrence and Ethel (Petersen) Korell. He graduated from Bayard High School and attended Technical Training School in Denver and then on to Navy School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 25, 1944 in Denver and served during WWII. He received the Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal and was honorably discharged on July 11, 1946 in Norman, OK.

He married Verna Blackburn on December 24, 1947 in Bayard, Nebraska, and to this union, four children were born, Kathy, Mark, Coleen and Gail.

He farmed and ranched in rural Bayard. He was a member of the Northfield Church in Gering, served on the church board and taught Sunday school for years. He was on the Chimney Rock Public Power Board for 18 years and served on behalf of the Chimney Rock Tri State Electric Board in Denver. He also served as treasurer on the School Board District #73 and served on the cemetery board in Bayard.

Kenneth enjoyed traveling, reading, attending sporting events and was an avid Husker fan. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Verna; children Kathy (Gene) Steiner of Tulsa, OK, Mark (Nancy) Korell of Bayard, Coleen (Paul) Spinden of Westminster, CO and Gail Korell Brown (Doug) of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Joy (Ryan) Moore of Aurora, CO., Justin (Alyson) Steiner of Providence Village, TX, Brad (Michele) Korell of Estelline, SD, Brian (Julie) Korell of Gering, Cora Brown and Aaron Brown both of Minneapolis, MN; great grandchildren Melady Korell, Aleesa Korell, Ryley Moore, Austen and Aden Jake Korell; brothers Ronald (Gloria) Korell of Hot Springs, SD and Roger (Pat) Korell of Bayard and sister Karen (Ted) Davis of Duvall, WA. and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant twin brother.
