ROBERT "BOB" E. GAHAN

Robert "Bob" E. Gahan, 76, of Columbus, died Saturday,October 28, 2000 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus .Services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church Columbus, NE on Thursday, November 02, 2000 at 2:00 PM with Father Dan Keller officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home after 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 with a 7:30 P.M. Vigil Service..
Robert (Bob) E. Gahan was born icon July 2, 1924 in Columbus, Nebraska to John B. and Blanche B. (Hargleroad) Gahan. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1942, attended Midland College, Creighton University, Wayne State College and graduated from the San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He served in the Army Air Force from April 20, 1943 to February 28, 1946. Robert married Angeline F. Blaser on August 6, 1946 in Columbus, Nebraska. Robert and Angeline lived in Lyons, Nebraska for 4 years, Oakland, Nebraska for 32 years and then moved to Columbus in 1989. He was a Funeral Director for the Palmquist Funeral Home in Oakland and also the Piper Funeral Home in Lyons.
Robert was a life member of the American Legion Hartman Post 84, the Eagle's and St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion in Oakland and Lyon's and served in all the offices. He was a former member and past president of the Oakland Lion's Club, served on the Oakland School Board for 18 years, drove an Oakland school bus for 12 years. Robert was also a member of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce and involved in the American Legion baseball program for 20 years. He was a member for 36 years of St. Joesph's Catholic Church in Lyon's and also served on the church council.
In April of this year he was honored by the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.
Robert and Angeline were dedicated to each other through 54 years of marriage.

Gottlieb Abegglen

Gottlieb Abegglen, 95 of Columbus, NE died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Columbus.

Services will be Tuesday, April 24, 2001, 10:30 A.M. at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, April 23, 2001 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. and on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at St. Luke's United Church of Christ from 9:30-10:30 A.M. with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Gottlieb Abegglen was born icon October 17, 1905 in Darligan, Switzerland to Johann and Magdelena (Ammeter) Steuri. In November of 1910 at the age of 5, he came to America with his adoptive parents, Anna and Christian Abegglen, who was his mother's sister. They settled in the Oconee, Nebraska area where Gottlieb attended District 25 grade school. He road the train to Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School. He continued his education in California and worked on a dairy and fruit farm. He moved back to Platte County, Nebraska to farm and later returned to the family farm near Oconee. On February 23, 1936 he married Helen Maria Mueller in Columbus, Nebraska. In 1975 they moved to Columbus. Gottlieb was Chairman of District 25 School Board for 12 years and worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service from 1930 to 1980. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ where he was a past president. He was on the Oconee Township Election Board and was a 4-H Club leader for many years and in 1990 received recognition from the Platte County Fair for his families involvement with the 4-H Club for 3 generations. In 1951 Gottlieb and Helen received the WOW-TV Farm Family of the Year Award. Gottlieb enjoyed woodworking, whittling, traveling, reading, music, and supporting school activities.

Bonnie L. Cox

Bonnie L. Cox, 82, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, December 31, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Columbus, Nebraska on Thursday, January 03, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Nancy Idenden officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Grace Episcopal Church on Thursday, January 3, 2002 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.

Bonnie L. Cox was born icon June 30, 1919 at Oberlin, Kansas to Lars and Josephine (Huber) Bystrom. She graduated from Orleans High School in 1936 and attended Hastings Beauty College. Bonnie married James Gamman, he preceded her in death on July 3, 1944. She married Melville W. Cox on May 6, 1950, he preceded her in death on July 7, 1995. She was a hairdresser for 49 years, 45 years in Columbus. Bonnie was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a Red Cross volunteer.

Arthur Gerber

Arthur Gerber, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, February 16, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Private family interment will be at the Duncan Cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and on Friday, from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Arthur G. Gerber was born icon November 16, 1912 in Duncan, NE to Albert & Hedwig (Schacher) Gerber. He graduated from Duncan High School and then attended the American Business College in Omaha, NE. Arthur married Evelyn Unruh on April 5, 1941 in South Sioux City, NE. They farmed in the Columbus area all their lives. Arthur helped organize Farm Bureau of Platte County, he was a Hall of Fame Member of the Platte County Agricultural Society, and was a member of the Izaac Walton League, and the Historical Society. Arthur also played in the Columbus Municipal Band for 23 years.

Elmer E. Egger

Elmer Egger, 85, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska.

Services are Friday, March 2, 2001 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Revs. Richard Bringewatt and Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2001 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Friday, March 2, 2001 from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Elmer E. Egger was born icon September 12, 1915 in rural Polk County, Nebraska to Moritz & Ida (Houser) Egger. He attended school in rural Polk County. On January 31, 1942 Elmer entered the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Southern Philippines and also was in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged on October 28, 1945. On July 27, 1947, Elmer married Elva M. Krumland in Columbus, NE. Elmer owned Egger Produce and then worked as a cement finisher for Jake Glur. He also worked as a butcher and sausage maker in Duncan, NE and and retired from Douglas & Lomason Co. in Columbus. Elmer was a life member of the V.F.W., and was also a member of the American Legion and the church Couples Club.

Suzanne K. Archer

Suzanne K. Archer, 58, of Norfolk, Nebraska formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. A Memorial Mass will be Monday, February 12, 2001, 11:30 AM at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Joe Miksch and Father Del Funk officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 11, 2001 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.

Suzanne K. Archer, was born icon May 26, 1942 to Donald and Marjorie (Crouse) Poland in Shenandoah, Iowa. She married Marvin Archer on June 5, 1965 in Shenandoah. They moved to Columbus, Nebraska in 1983. Suzanne was a youth group leader at St. Isidore Catholic Church, delivered meals-on-wheels, and delivered books from the library to shut- ins and to the nursing homes. She also coached and judged "Odyssey of the Mind" for the Columbus Public Schools. In 1999, they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska.

Jeffery Degn, 45, of Columbus, NE died Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. Services will be Saturday, January 6, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the All Saints Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2001 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday, January 6, 2001 from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a 10:15 A.M. family prayer service.

Jeffery L. Degn was born icon September 10, 1955 in Red Oak, Iowa to Hans and Marlys (Magnuson) Degn. Jeff graduated from Columbus High School in 1973. On July 9, 1976 Jeff married Barbara German at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Jeff has lived in Columbus all his life and has spent the last 5 Years working for Central Nebraska Community Services where he was the Commodities Warehouse Supervisor. Jeff was responsible for helping distribute food and nutritional information to the elderly and the needy families in the Columbus area. Jeff helped serve approximately 600 people on a monthly basis.

Lloyd Carl Ahlstrom

Lloyd Carl Ahlstrom, 79, of Columbus, Nebraska, died January 16, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital, Columbus, Nebraska. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Friday, January 19, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus, with Military Honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, from 1:00 PM until service time. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 PM on Friday at the church.
Lloyd C. Ahlstrom, 79, was born icon May 13, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Lincoln and Helga (Williamson) Ahlstrom. He graduated from Mankato, MN high school and entered the service on August 12, 1942. He served in the US Army 511th Medical Collection Company as a Staff Sergeant. He served in China-India-Burma. He received the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 2, 1946.
On June 22, 1952, he married Marilyn Halvorson in Lamberton, Minnesota. He was a manufacturer's rep. and they lived in Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. Prior to moving to Columbus in 1968, Lloyd and Marilyn lived in Beatrice, Nebraska where Lloyd began working with Minnegasco in 1967. He worked there until his retirement in 1983. He then worked part time for D & L.
Lloyd was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, a life member of Optimist. He was a past Cub Scout Leader of Pack 279 in Columbus and was also involved in the scouting program in Beatrice. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. His hobbies included golfing and fishing. He also loved to drink coffee, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
