Lillian L. "Janssen" Ditter

Lillian L. "Janssen" Ditter, 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, July 1, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus. Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Columbus (14 miles north), on Thursday, July 05, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 3, 2001, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday, from 9:30 AM until service time.

Lillian was born icon February 22, 1914 in rural Platte County to Edward and Meta (Janssen) Hellbusch. She attended school at St. John's Lutheran School in rural Platte County. She worked for many neighbors as a youth, helping out where needed. She married Leonard Janssen on February 6, 1940 at St. John's Lutheran Church and together they farmed, first in the Christ Lutheran area and then in the Platte Center area. Leonard died on April 18, 1957. She remarried on January 5, 1969 to Reynold Ditter. They lived on the family farm until 1978 when they moved into Columbus. During the winter months, they lived in Florida. Reynold died on June 1, 1992.

Lillian not only was a homemaker, but also ran her own beauty shop from her home for 40 years. She was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church (rural Columbus), Grace Lutheran Church (Platte Center, NE) and currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. While a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lillian was active with the Ladies Aide. She was also active with the Columbus Area Arts Council, where she had many of her oil paintings displayed. She also enjoyed sewing.

Paul E. (Bus) Gaver

Paul E. Gaver, 76 of Columbus, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Columbus, NE on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at Columbus Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Paul E. Gaver was born icon May 19, 1925 in Columbus, Nebraska to Paul and Anna (Ewert) Gaver. He attended Highland Park and Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1942. Paul worked for Nebraska Public Power District retiring after 30 years of service. He also had worked part-time at the Columbus Races and Wunderlich's Catering. He was an honorary member of the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 15 years. He was a former member of the Columbus Apollo Club Men's Chorus. Paul loved going to his cabin and hunting and fishing on the Loup and Platte rivers.

Armand Walter Engel

Armand Walter Engel, 86 of Columbus died Monday, June 11, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services are Friday, June 15, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, Nebraska with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment will be in Jackson Cemetery, Duncan, Nebraska on Friday, June 15, 2001 at 9:45 A.M. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2001 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home.

Armand W. Engel was born icon on October 4, 1914 at Duncan, Nebraska he was the first of three children born icon to Oscar and Ottilia (Grossnicklaus) Engel. He attended Duncan Public Schools. While in school he enjoyed basketball and baseball. Armand's parents were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church and he was in the first confirmation class on Palm Sunday, March 29, 1929. At and early age, he sang in the church choir. As a youth, he was involved with 4H and raised pigs and calves, he also helped his father on the farm. Armand developed a successful operation in 1945 that handled around 600 breeding ewes per year. He later operated a cow/calf operation. Armand worked on the family farm for 50 years. He also helped with the construction of the Lincoln Highway west of Duncan, which went past the family farm. He also helped with the construction of Howard Boulevard in Columbus. After retirement, he moved to Columbus.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church were he served on the planning and construction committee and was chairman of the survey committee for the new church building. He served as the Financial Secretary from 1959 to 1962. On October 4, 1999 he was recognized by the church for his 45 years of continuous service as an usher.

Alyce Ernst

Alyce Ernst, 78 of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus.

Services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Michael Klatt and Rev. Ernest Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Peace Lutheran Church on Tuesday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Alyce E. Ernst was born icon October 19, 1922 in Platte County, Nebraska to Herman and Olga (Depe) Becher. She attended school in rural Platte County and graduated from Kramer High School in 1940. On February 20, 1946 she married Duane Ernst at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. They farmed southwest of the Columbus area. Alyce was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church and was active in the Women's Guild and also the second milers. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as Poppy seed chairman for several years, and she was also a member of the 40 & 8 club. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, sports, traveling, and loved spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren.

LeRoy A. Frese, 90 of Bozeman, Montana formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital in Bozeman, Montana. Services will be held Monday, June 11, 2001 at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.

LeRoy A. Frese was born icon September 6, 1910 to Adolph and Josephine (Loseke) Frese in Platte County, Nebraska. He married Velma Grotelueschen on March 1, 1936. He farmed north of Columbus for many years.

Eva C. Cattau

Eva C. Cattau, 67, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus. Memorial services will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, Nebraska with Rev. Michael Klatt, Rev. Ernest G. Smith, and Rev. Steven Williams officiating. Private family interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, rural Columbus, Nebraska. There will be no visitation.

Eva Cattau was born icon December 7, 1933 at Rosedale, Mississippi to Claude O. and Maida (Riley) Woodall. She grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi where she graduated from high school. She lived in Wichita, Kansas and then moved to Columbus, Nebraska in 1958. While living in Columbus, Eva worked at Dale Electronics, Behlen Manufacturing, Lindsay Manufacturing, Columbus Manor, Oldfathers Tire, Sahara Lounge and Drs. Gray and Seeger. Eva married Martin Cattau on January 7, 1967 at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, Nebraska. They moved to California in 1986, while living there Eva was employed as the manager of an apartment complex. They moved back to Columbus in 1994. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Building Fund or the Family Choice.

Emerson Eller

Emerson Eller, 74, of Columbus, NE died Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 17, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Dan Keller officiating. Interment will be at the Schuyler City Cemetery in Schuyler, NE. on Friday at 1:30 P.M. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 16, 2000 from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with a 7:30 P.M. vigil service. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:30 - 10:15 A.M. at the funeral home.

Emerson L. Eller was born icon March 30, 1926 in Schuyler, Nebraska to Christian and Elsie (Lambrecht) Eller. Mr. Eller graduated from Schuyler High School. On February 22, 1945 Emerson entered the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Tech 5. He was Honorably Discharged on November 14, 1946. On November 29, 1947 he married Marie Vavra in Schuyler. In 1951 they moved to Columbus where he started the Eller Heating & Air Conditioning business. He continued to run the business until his retirement in 1994. Emerson was a member of the American Legion and also the Columbus Rotary Morning Club.
