ERNEST A. INSELMAN

Ernest A. Inselman, 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Columbus Manor in Columbus.

Services are Thursday, August 10, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus with Rev. John E. Nelson Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, 2000 from 4:00-9:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Thursday, August 10, 2000 from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 1:45 P.M.

Ernest A. Inselman was born icon on March 19, 1913 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to Herman & Minnie (Hellbusch) Inselman. He attended St. John's Parochial School in Creston. On March 22, 1934 Ernest married Lorena Lueschen at the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus. Ernest farmed all of his life in the rural Columbus area. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer and was also on the Board of Education at Christ Lutheran School. He was also active in the Voters Assembly and enjoyed the game of baseball.

ARTHUR W. FEYE

Arthur W. Feye, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, Nebraska. Service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Lunch will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will take place at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Leigh, NE, with Military Honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 1, 2000 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 A.M. Saturday at the church.

Arthur William Feye was born icon April 2, 1915 in Sherman Township (Creston), Platte County, Nebraska to Fred & Alma (Wurdeman) Feye. He attended Boheet School in Sherman Township through the seventh grade when his family moved to Columbus, NE. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1933.
On April 14, 1940 Arthur married Marie Hassebrook of rural Platte Center, NE. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie, rural Columbus, NE. Following his marriage he worked at Swift Company in Columbus until called to duty with the U.S. Army in WWII on August 27, 1943 where he served with the 977th Army Corp. of Engineers in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1945. After the war he continued his military service in the National Guard and the Army Reserve. For 28 years he worked for the U.S. Post Office in Columbus, first as a mail carrier and later as a rural carrier. Following his retirement in 1974, he worked for Gilmore and Assoc. for several years.
Arthur was a member of the VFW, a member and past-president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), and served on the Board of the Platte County Museum. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus where he taught Sunday School and directed the Choir for many years. He was a member of the Apollo Club for many years. He enjoyed music, travel, woodworking, and sports, especially baseball and Husker football.
Memorials are suggested to Family Choice.

Elva Egger

Elva Egger, 75, of Alliance, NE, formerly of Columbus, NE died Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Highland Park Care Center in Alliance. Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Columbus, NE on Friday, March 16, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, March 15, 2001 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM and at Immanuel Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Friday, March 16, 2001 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. A family prayer service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2001 at 10:15 AM at the church.

Elva M. Egger was born icon October 23, 1925 in Platte County, Nebraska to Louis & Martha (Sander) Krumland. Elva graduated from Kramer High School in 1943. On July 27, 1947 she married Elmer Egger in Columbus. Elva was a homemaker and an Avon Representative. She was active in the V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Country Ladies Aid, and the church couples club.

James W. "Jim" Grohs

James W. "Jim" Grohs, 60, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. Services are Friday, March 30, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Chapel with Father Joe Miksch officiating. A service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, South Dakota. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2001 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., and on Friday, March 30, 2001 from 8:30 A.M. until service time at the Gass Haney Funeral Home.

James W. "Jim" Grohs was born icon September 23, 1940 in Burke, South Dakota to William and Ann (Walsh) Grohs. Jim graduated from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell, SD in 1958. He then entered the U.S. Air Force on September 18, 1959 in Sioux Falls, SD. He attained the rank of A2C-E3 and was in the 790th Radar Squadron. He was Honorably Discharged on September 17, 1963. He went to work for the Hormel Co. and worked in Fort Dodge, IA, Fremont, NE. , and moved to Columbus in 1995. He retired in 1995 after 32 years with Hormel. He married Linda Parr on October 28, 1998 in Fremont, NE.

Jim was a member of the Eagles Club in Fremont and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He participated in the Minneapolis Marathon, Bike Ride Across Nebraska, and the Bike Ride Across Iowa.

Mika Kaylen Daberkow, infant daughter of James and Michelle Hansen Daberkow of Lincoln, Nebraska, was stillborn March 14, 2001 at Bryan LGH-East Hospital in Lincoln.

Services are Friday, March 16, 2001 at 1:30 P.M. at United Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska with Rev. Bob Stenson and Rev. Russ Leeper officiating. Private family interment will be held Friday, March 16, 2001 at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Columbus, Nebraska.

Gilbert L. Arndt

Gilbert L. Arndt, 61, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at his home.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, August 10, 2002, 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Revs. Roland A. Jank and Andrew Alberts officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, August 9, 2002 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday, August 10, 2002 from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Gilbert L. Arndt was born icon March 19, 1941 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Ruben and Barbara (Reins) Arndt. Gilbert attended school in Platte Center and graduated from Columbus High School in 1958. On June 17, 1967 he married Alice Stilwell at Imanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. Gilbert was the owner of Arndt Farm Equipment Co. in Columbus from 1973-1983. From 1983-1993 he was the owner of the Lark Lounge and then ran the Goodrich Dairy Store from 1994-1996. In 1996 Gilbert received his Real Estate license and worked as a realtor. He was member of the Shell Creek Township Board, Lakeview School Board, and the Platte County Feeders Association. Gilbert was also a member of the Nebraska Realtors Association and on the Columbus Board of Realtors. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf.

Paul L. Gondringer

Paul L. Gondringer, 78, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at his residence. Services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church on Saturday, January 05, 2002 at 10:00 AM with Father Tom Weisbecker officiating. Interment will be at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, January 4, 2002 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5, 2002 from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM. There will be a vigil service on Friday, January 4, 2002 at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Paul was born icon May 27, 1923 in Shelby, Nebraska to John and Isabelle (Conway) Gondringer. He graduated from Gresham, Nebraska high school in 1941. Prior to entering the service on February 16, 1943, Paul worked on the family farm. Paul served in the US Navy during WWII until being honorably discharged on April 9, 1946. He returned to the family farm after his discharge. On November 17, 1949, he and Jean Giersdorf were united in marriage at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. They moved to Columbus where Paul has been a licensed realtor and auctioneer since 1962.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. A past member of the Nebraska Auctioneer Association and the Nebraska and Columbus Realtors Association. He was a past member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce where he was a proud sponsor of the Platte County Agriculture Society. He also supported the Platte and Polk Counties 4-H programs. Paul was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. For many years, Paul served as an usher for the church.

Theola J. Carman

Theola J. Carman of Edmond, Oklahoma, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Edmond Medical Center in Edmond.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Theola Jean (Nauenburg) Carman was born icon July 9, 1923 at Kearney, Nebraska to Lee Ludwig and Lola Myrtle (Lentz) Nauenburg. She married Leon Russell Carman on February 14, 1951 at Grand Island, Nebraska. They lived in Columbus until December of 1956, where she worked as a tailor and seamstress.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Harmony Chapter 13, Columbus, Nebraska, past Bethel Counsel Member of the International Order of Job's Daughters, Bethels #45 and #306, Santa Ana, California. Theola was a member of the Widows of Wayside Chapel Evangelical Free Church in Santa Ana and a member of the Women's Fellowship of Hesperia First United Methodist Church, Hesperia, California. She had been attending Henderson Hills Baptist Church since her move in September of 2000 to Edmond, Oklahoma. She was active with the Californians for Nebraska for over 20 years and a avid Cornhusker fan. Theola was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
