Elmer Garbers

Elmer Garbers, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at his residence in Columbus .

Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus with Rev. Mike Neely and Rev. Richard Tschetter officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Saturday, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 AM on Saturday at the church.

Elmer Garbers was born icon December 1, 1910 in Columbus to Gustav and Otillia (Schachtschneider) Garbers. He attended rural Platte County School. He married Mary Jackson on May 27, 1940 in David City, Nebraska. He lived in the county his lifetime and worked on the family farm which had been in the family since 1901. While farming he worked at other various jobs. He drove the Platte County Bookmobile from its origination until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church.

Jonathan (Jon) Craft

Jonathan (Jon) Craft, 23, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services are Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 10:00 AM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, from 8:30 AM until service time, all at the funeral home.

Jonathan (Jon) Craft was born icon February 5, 1980 in Hastings, Nebraska to Larry Craft and Judith (Mott) Coe. He attended Columbus Public and Lakeview Public Schools in Columbus, Nebraska. He was a mechanic. Jon enjoyed fishing, model cars, building things, and spending time with his son.

GENE ADDISON COLE

Gene Addison Cole, 74, of Columbus died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Burial is at the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84.

Visitation is 4-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and continues Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service.

Mr. Cole was born icon June 23, 1926 to Lloyd and Elsie (Coordes) Cole in Polk. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corp on December 11, 1944 and was discharged August 12, 1946. While in the service he was stationed in the South Pacific and received the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal.

He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years and on April 10, 1947 married Dorothy Johansen in St. Paul. The couple moved to Columbus in 1953 where he worked for the Central Electric and Gas Co. for 16 years. He then worked at Douglas and Lomason for 25 years before retiring in 1992 when he was a quality assurance manager. He enjoyed sports and coached town-team baseball, softball and midget football. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping in the mountains. He was a member of the church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mikie (Tom) Krumbach of Columbus, Allison (Kevin) Hecker of Lincoln; four sons, Shannon (Sue) and Jon (Shirley), all of Columbus, Todd (Jamie) of Grand Island and Christopher of Tucson, Ariz; a son-in-law, Don Booth of Albion; 21 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great-grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kerry Booth; and three grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the donors’ choice.

Roy Conrad

Roy Carl Conrad, 90, died December 25, 2001 at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus, Nebraska. A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 28, 2001 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island, Nebraska with the Rev. Nancy Idenden officiating. There will be no visitation.

Roy was born icon December 26, 1911 in Wahoo, Nebraska to Charles and Tillie (Basil) Conrad. The family moved to David City, Nebraska when Roy was a young child. He grew up in David City. On March 24, 1934 he married Mary Alice Danaher in Seward, Nebraska. The moved to Grand Island in 1955. Roy worked for Diamond Engineers as a construction foreman for 30 years, retiring in 1973. They moved to Columbus in 1978.

Norma Ewert

Norma Ewert, 64, of Bellwood, Nebraska, died March 5, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Thursday, March 08, 2001 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 07, 2001, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Immanuel Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Thursday, March 08, 2001, from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM.

Norma Lea Ewert was born icon May 10, 1936 in Bellwood, Nebraska, to Fred & Helen (Loveless) Langhorst. She attended schools in Bellwood. She married Clarence Ewert on June 16, 1953 in Columbus, Nebraska. She helped Clarence on the family farm and worked at several factories. She loved to go dancing, playing cards, baking and shopping. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Werner F. Cattau

Werner F. Cattau, 86, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, June 17, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services are Thursday, June 20, 2002; 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church rural Columbus with Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Werner F. Cattau was born icon January 29, 1916 in rural Columbus, Nebraska to William and Clara (Rosche) Cattau. He received his education at school District #46 - Platte County and Christ Lutheran School rural Columbus. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church. He married Elsa L. Otte on November 16, 1941 at Christ Lutheran Church. Werner was a lifelong Platte County dairy farmer, a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he held numerous offices over the years and he had also served on the the Sherman Township Board. For the past 15 years he and Elsa made their winter home in Arizona. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Student Aid Fund or Concordia University, Irvine, CA.
