Gerald Willie Albertz

03/28/1960 - 1/1/2006

Gerald Willie Albertz, 45, of McGrew, died Monday, January 1, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Herb Rainey officiating. Interment will be in Mitchell Valley Cemetery.

Gerald was born March 28, 1960 in Chamberlain, South Dakota to Gerald John and Donna (Schauer-Albertz) Smith. He received his education in Alexandria, SD and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He attended trade school in North Platte, NE where he received his Electrical License and worked for Snell’s Services in North Platte and Gering. In July of 1999 he went out on his own and subcontracted. He worked for Current Electric and Protex Central. The last three summers, he and his wife ran a concession trailer and traveled in Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota selling at Native American Pow Wows.

In July of 1992 Gerald met Susan Jeanette Christianson and they were married May 1, 1999 in Bayard, NE.

Gerald is survived by his wife: Susan; daughters: Tami (Kelly) Daniels of Mitchell, NE and Tracy (Michael) Haley of Greybull, WY; three grandchildren: Cody, Morgan and Weston all of Greybull, WY; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Vera and Bennie Christianson of Gering, NE; brother-in-law and nephews: Ben (Vickie) Christianson Ben, Jr. and Danny of Sparta, MI and sister-in-law and niece: Jean (Ira) Stovall and Kenisha of Tampa, FL; Sister: Lila Albertz and her daughter Lari of Williston, ND, brothers and their children: John (Rose) Albertz, Jessica and Travis of Bridgeport, NE, Kelvin (Linda) Albertz , Kelsey, Taylor and Jena of Alexandria, SD; Mother: Donna Smith of Bridgewater, SD; half sister: Rhonda Smith and her son Braxton of Salem, SD; half sister: Melinda Smith of Bridgewater, SD and father: Gerald Albertz of Mitchell, SD.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a niece

Norma Jean Dove

12/12/1930 - 1/1/2006

Norma Jean (Griggs) Dove, 75, of Eaton, CO, formerly of Banner County, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home between 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Norma was born to Merle and Vera Marie (Oviatt) Griggs at Beatrice, Nebraska, December 12, 1930. Norma married Leroy Morrow in 1958 and lived in Cheyenne, WY. In 1963 they moved to Harrisburg, NE to help her mother, Vera Griggs, operate the Harrisburg Café until it closed in 1978. Leroy passed away in 1970.

On January 12, 1971, Norma married Jerd Dove. They continued to operate the Harrisburg Café until it closed. Jerd and Norma opened “The Quonset” in Harrisburg and continued to operate it until their retirement in 1989. They moved to Cheyenne and Jerd passed away in November of 1991. Norma moved to Ault and later to Eaton, CO in 1995 to be closer to her two son s and their families.

Norma dedicated her life to serving people and never met a stranger, at least not for long. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and the Banner County Fire Department Auxiliary.

Norma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Doug and Tammy Morrow and daughters Erin and Kristin of Eaton, CO; son: Jay Dee Dove and children Gregory and Kayla of Falcon, CO; brothers: Larry Griggs of San Luis Obispo, CA and Jerry Griggs of Morrill, NE; nieces: Tina Johnson and Tammy Griggs of Pflugerfville, TX and Tracy Reamer of Salinas, CA.

Her parents and both husbands preceded her in death.

Melvin P. Dodge

05/04/1916 - 1/11/2006

Melvin P. Dodge, 89, of Minatare, passed from this life into Jesus’ arms, Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Regional West Medical Center, Scottsbluff.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Minatare Church of Christ with Ken Mickey officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Morrill. Visitation is one hour prior to the service time at the church.

Melvin was born May 4, 1916, in Lexington, Nebraska to John and May (Miller) Dodge. During the 1930’s he worked in the CCC’s. He helped build the road and tunnels up the Scottsbluff National Monument. During this time he met Ruth Emery, they married June 7, 1937, which means they celebrated 68 years together in 2005.

Melvin started the door closer service in a one-car garage in Scottsbluff in the early 1960’s. The business was moved to Gering for a few years, and then moved to 1380 1st Avenue, Scottsbluff where it is presently located. He taught locksmithing and hardware for the Salina Vo-Tech College. He worked for the Gering School Systems as “Head of Maintenance” for 11 years. Melvin worked for the Sugar Factory in Scottsbluff for ten years. He also farmed in the Sidney area and for several years he has farmed north of Minatare.

Melvin has been an elder in the Minatare Church of Christ for 51 years. He was a pillar in the Church, in his family and in the community. What a well thought of and respected man. What an empty space he did leave. Those who have been touched by the thoughts of his heart have been truly blessed. He was a wonderful husband, awesome father, terrific grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Joan Covington of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Susan (Bob) Knoles of Scottsbluff, Kenneth (Marilyn) Dodge of Gering, Kathleen Dodge of Minatare and Eugene (Cynthia) Dodge of Vale, North Carolina; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; daughter, Melba Rae Vick; one grandson; two sisters; and four brothers preceded him in death.

Clayton Kenneth Schilling

07/07/1927 - 1/14/2006

Clayton Kenneth Schilling, 78, of Torrington, Wyoming, went to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, January 14, 2006, at his daughter’s home in Scottsbluff with his family around him. He fought an 18-year battle with leukemia.

A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel, Scottsbluff with Pastor Al Wilson officiating of the Chuck Wagon Church and nephew of Clayton. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Scottsbluff with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time.

Clayton was born July 7, 1927, on 8th Street in Scottsbluff to Dave and Marie (Mohr) Schilling. He was the second son of four children. He grew up and went to many Wyoming schools around Torrington and graduated from Torrington High School with the class of 1946.

Clayton served in the Wyoming State Guards before joining the Army September 6, 1946, and serving until his honorable discharge in February 21, 1948. He served in the 25th Division Artillery and was stationed in Kokura, Kyushu, Japan. While in Japan he was a welterweight boxer and he had many stories to tell.

Clayton married Jane Hewitt on June 4, 1955. They were married for 39 years. He lovingly took Jane’s two daughters and raised them as his own. His wife Jane passed away August 2, 1994.

He worked for Helms Business Supply and Kissick Office Supply and Repair. Clayton and Jane bought the Bowl Arena in 1971. He loved to bowl and was one of the top bowlers in this area. He was a member of the Scottsbluff-Gering F.O.E. Aerie # 2998 and he served in all their offices.

Clayton is survived by his daughters, Gloria Crist (fiancé, Greg Floyd) of Scottsbluff and Dixie (Dan) Stricker of Minatare; brother, Wayne Schilling of Scottsbluff; sister-in-law, Helen Schilling of Torrington; four grandchildren, Amanda (Ron) Barthel, Lori (Jeff) Schick, Vincent Livingston and Nina Livingston; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his wife; great-grandson, Brandon Schilreff; parents; brother, Vern; sister, Betty Moehr; and brother-in-law, Carl Moehr.

Rita M. Grigsby

02/03/1931 - 1/14/2006

Rita M. Grigsby, 74 of Scottsbluff, died on Saturday January 14, 2006 in her home at the Village at Regional West. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday January 18, 2006 at the Dugan Kramer Chapel in Scottsbluff Nebraska with Reverend Ronald Nuss-Warren officiating. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff, in compliance with Rita’s wishes. Inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.

Rita was born February 3, 1931 in Midwest Wyoming, the daughter of George H. and Maye (Cook) Nelson. Her father worked in the oil fields until his death in 1939; at which time the family moved to Laramie Wyoming. Rita was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church as a child. She attended and graduated from Laramie High School in 1949. Following her graduation Rita married Leland K. Wold, the couple had four children prior to their divorce. Rita moved to Scottsbluff in 1967 and began her long and loyal career with Kizziers Chevrolet, continuing on with Team Chevrolet. Rita married Noice R Grigsby Jr on April 22, 1969. She remained with her job for 38 years until ill health prohibited her from working in November 2005. Rita enjoyed decorating her office space and her home for every holiday and the Husker football season. She loved all things purple. Rita felt it was a privilege to work for her dear friend Bob Wallace for 25 years at the dealership. She appreciated Bob’s kindness up to the time of her death. In addition to being a Husker and Bronco fan, Rita enjoyed golfing and more recently her activities with the Medicare Momma’s Red Hatter Group. Prior to becoming ill Rita served as a volunteer with United Way, assisting with the agency interviews and the United Way Day of Caring.

Rita is survived by her children; Susan Wold of San Antonio Texas, Kenneth Wold (Cheryl) and Timothy Wold (Robin) of Cheyenne Wyoming, and Lorraine (Lorrie) Wold of Scottsbluff. Brothers Byron Nelson (Eileen) of Buffalo Wy and Eugene Nelson (Sherilyn) of Cheyenne. Her surviving grandchildren are Adrian Rubottom, Andrew Rubottom, Shawn Selchow, Autumn Ruiz, Kurt Wold, Jessica Yost, Marjorie Porter, Leroy Milburn, and Nichole Clark, as well as 9 great-grandchildren. Rita was preceded in death by her husband Noice, her parents, many aunts and uncles, and her sister-in-law Roberta (Berky) Nelson.

Donna Mae Cooper

01/11/1935 - 1/18/2006

Donna Mae Cooper, 71 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Regional West Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Her funeral service will be held Monday, January 23, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church in Gering with Dr. Charles Bonds officiating. A graveside service will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Ash Hollow Cemetery in Lewellen.

A service of sharing will be Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the chapel.

Donna was born on January 11, 1935 in Julesburg, Colorado to W.A. and Vera Ruth Eggers. She graduated from Lewellen High School, and then attended beautician school in Omaha.

She married Earl Cooper on Feb 7, 1953 and they moved to Gering in 1965. She worked as a beautician in Gering, later at Gering Clothing and Western Pathology. She returned working as a beautician at the Salon of Style where she retired in 2003.

In her later years, she had a special devoted friend, Hank Rein.

Donna ‘s greatest love was her Lord. She loved and enjoyed her church and church family. She was very active in the AWANA program for over 30 years. She also enjoyed gardening.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter Sandy and husband Tim Daniels of Gering; sons Mick and wife Linda Cooper of Memphis, Tennessee, and Tom and wife Penny of rural Minatare; grandchildren Kimberly, Andria and Briana Daniels, Katie and Brandon Cooper and Kayley Cooper and Grant Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Arvie Eggers.
