Edith Berney
Edith Berney, 90, of Columbus, NE died Friday, January 26, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2001 at 10:30 AM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with the Dr. Dorsie Ivy officiating. Interment is at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2001 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM all at the funeral home.
Edith Berney was born
April 23, 1910 in Salix, Iowa to Ed and Anna (Drake) Black. Edith attended school in Salix. In April of 1927 she married George Murray. Edith later married Clyde Berney in June of 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1944 they moved to Columbus. Edith worked at Kings and Happy Chef restaurants and also was a partner for many years in the Columbus Oil Company. She enjoyed her yard work and going bowling.

Hulda Rose Behle, 102, of Columbus, Nebraska, died January 16, 2001 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, Nebraska. Services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will follow at the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and on Friday, January 19, from 9:30 A.M. to service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. on Friday at the church.
Hulda R. Behle, 102, was born
August 24, 1898 in Ord, NE to Jacob & Lydia (Keller) Smith. She attended school at District 23 in Colfax County and District 71 in Platte County. On March 10, 1920 she married Henry Behle in Central City, NE. She lived all her life in the Columbus area except for the last 3 years when she resided in Stromsburg. Hulda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Country Ladies Aid for over 60 years.

Raymond M. Bakenhus
Raymond M. Bakenhus, 72, of Leigh, Nebraska died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare Center in Columbus .
Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church Rural Columbus, NE on Friday, June 15, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dr. Paul Rowoldt officiating. A family prayer service will be at 10:15 A.M. on Friday at the church. Interment will be at the Leigh City Cemetery in Leigh.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, NE on Thursday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Christ Lutheran Church on Friday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
Raymond M. Bakenhus was born
April 19, 1929 in Platte County, Nebraska to William F. and Frieda (Korte) Bakenhus. Ray grew up on the family farm and attended Christ Lutheran School. On February 12, 1952 he entered the U.S. Army and was involved the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal on February 14, 1954. He returned to the Leigh area and continued to farm. On April 20, 1950, Ray married Patricia Busse at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh. Ray was an active member of the American Legion in Leigh and the V.F.W. in Clarkson, he also enjoyed playing cards with his many friends. Ray was on the Board of Directors for the Farm Credit Service for 18 years.

Jaime Christian Elizabeth Buschmeyer
Jaime Christian Elizabeth Buschmeyer, infant daughter of James and Theresa (Berends) Buschmeyer of Columbus, Nebraska, was stillborn March 4, 2001 at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, Nebraska. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Columbus, with the Rev. Gary Main officiating.
Jaime is survived by her parents of Columbus, Brother - Devin Berends, Sisters - Kayla Griffin and Bethany Griffin, Grandparents - Ed & Nancy Buschmeyer of St. Edward, Nebraska and Genevieve Springer of Charles City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her brother Christian Buschmeyer (9-9-00) and a grandfather - Gordon Springer.

Archie L. Deckert, 77, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska.
Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus on Friday, May 18, 2001 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, May 17, 2001 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, May 18, 2001 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service Friday at 10:15 AM at the church.
Archie LeRoy Deckert was born
September 25, 1923 in rural Newman Grove, Nebraska to Lew and Mae (Gray) Deckert. Archie attended country school in Madison County and farmed with his dad. On October 8, 1950 he married Ruth Mikelson at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, Nebraska. They lived on the home farm until 1960 when they moved to a farm by Monroe. In 1962 they moved to Columbus where Archie worked for Behlen Manufacturing for over 27 years before retiring in 1989. Archie enjoyed spending time with people, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing horse shoes, camping, and watching football and basketball games, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Lottie L. Blaser, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died October 11, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. Services will be held at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Columbus, on Monday, October 15, 2001 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at the Jackson Cemetery in Duncan, Nebraska at 1:30 PM on Monday. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, October 14, 2001 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. Luke's United Church of Christ Columbus, NE on Monday, from 10:00 AM until service time. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 10:45 AM at the church.
Lottie was born
May 23, 1913 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to Louis and Rose (Kummer) Boss. She attended grade schools in Platte and Merrick Counties. She graduated from Silver Creek, Nebraska High School in 1931. After graduation, she worked at home and took care of the family after the death of her mother. On December 19, 1934, she married Nicholas Blaser at the Gruetli parsonage. They lived on the Blaser farm near Duncan until she moved to Columbus in 1993.
Lottie was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus where she was active in the Ladies Aide and the Ladies Circle group. She was a past 4-H leader and served for several years on the Duncan Election Board and the Jackson Cemetery Board. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, fishing, traveling and especially enjoyed nature itself. Her travels took her to almost all of the 50 states.

Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Shell Creek, rural Columbus, NE on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dana B. Stout and Rev. Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in rural Platte County. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, September 14, 2001 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. John's Lutheran Shell Creek on Saturday, September 15, 2001 from 9:00 AM until service time. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at 9:45 AM at the church.
Joseph was born
June 21, 1912 in rural Colfax County, Nebraska to Jacob and Anna (Stibal) Abraham. He attended rural Colfax County grade school. He farmed in Colfax County. On June 21, 1942 he married Mildred Hake at St. John's Lutheran Church Shell Creek, rural Columbus, Nebraska. Together they farmed in Platte County, Nebraska. For a short time, Joseph worked at Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus, Nebraska.
Joseph enjoyed raising a huge vegetable and flower garden. He would deliver the produce to neighbors and friends so that he would have a chance to visit with them. He also enjoyed traveling. Joseph was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler, Nebraska.
