Gilbert E. (Gib) Behlen

Gilbert E. (Gib) Behlen, 93, of Columbus, NE died Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Columbus, NE on Monday, March 12, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Rev. John Dennert & Rev. William Effa officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at the Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, March 11, 2001 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday, March 12, 2001 from 8:30 AM - Noon and at the First Baptist Church, Columbus, NE on Monday, March 12, 2001 from 1:00 PM until service time. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 1:45 PM at the church.

Gilbert E. "Gib" Behlen, was born icon April 17, 1907 in rural Platte County to Fred and Ella (Benthack) Behlen. He graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. On December 29, 1935 he married Irene Bunney in Columbus. Irene passed away on March 5, 1983. On April 4, 1986 he married Rosalie Elkins in Las Vegas.
Gib worked for REA Express for 18 years and retired was a retired executive of Behlen Manufacturing Company. He was a 50 year member of the Lion's Club as well as the Thursday Night Poker Group. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served in various capacities. He had also served as a Trustee of Sioux Falls College. For more than 20 years, Gib had served on the Columbus Airport Authority and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Industrial Development Committee. He was a life long resident of the Columbus area.

Edwin H. Launer

Edwin H. Launer, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services are Friday, January 31, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Friday, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Friday at 10:15 AM at the church.

Edwin H. Launer was born icon February 1, 1917 in Columbus, Nebraska to Edwin M. and Anna Marie (Twiestmeyer) Launer. He graduated from Ogallala High School and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. He taught school at Roscoe and Keystone, Nebraska. Edwin broadcasted a radio program from the USO canteen in North Platte. Edwin served in the US Army during World War II. While in the service, he broadcasted a radio program from the canteen in North Platte. He married Sarah E. Burr on November 1, 1943 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Edwin was a radio announcer for KGNI in North Platte for 15 years and the station manager at KOGA in Ogallala. He was a television newscaster at KNOP in North Platte for 15 years and worked part-time at Hirschfeld's Men's Store. Edwin worked as a purchasing agent for the Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte until retirement. He moved to Columbus in 1993.

While living in North Platte he was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lutheran Layman's League, the American Legion PR Halligan Post 163 and the Rotary Club. He was a former board member of the Nebraska Retired Teachers Association, served on the State Library Board, a past State Chairman of Lutheran World Relief and a past district board member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Edwin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Columbus SCORE and a lifetime member of the PTA. He enjoyed traveling, cooking and playing the organ.

ELDON & VIOLA LOSEKE

Services for Eldon Loseke, 86 and Viola Loseke, 82, who died as a result of an auto accident northeast of Columbus, NE on Sunday, August 13, 2000 will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday at 10:15 A.M. at the Christ Lutheran School. Burial will take place at Christ Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. will be officiating.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the Church. Christ Lutheran Church is located 8 miles north of Columbus on 18th Ave. and 3.5 miles east.

Eldon H. Loseke was born icon March 7, 1914 to Louis and Helena (Grotelueschen) Loseke in rural Platte County. He attended school at Dist. #15 and Christ Lutheran. On November 20, 1938, Eldon and Viola Wilke were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus, NE. He and Viola made their home together on the family farm north of Columbus until his retirement in 1976 when they moved into Columbus.
Eldon was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he had served on the Finance Board and as the Budget Treasurer for six years. He loved to travel and bowl. He was president of the Wednesday Senior League Bowling Association for four years.

Viola L. Loseke was born icon February 8, 1918 to John and Wilhemina (Muth) Wilke in rural Platte County, NE. She attended school at Dist. #2 and Christ Lutheran. On November 20, 1938, Viola and Eldon Loseke were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus, NE. In 1973, Viola graduated from Platte College in Columbus as a LPN and went to work at the Schuyler Nursing Home, then to the Columbus Hospital and finally worked with Home Health Care.
Viola was a housewife, mother and a partner with her husband on the family farm north of Columbus until 1976 when they moved into Columbus. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid.

HAZEL D. HINCK

Hazel D. Hinck, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska, died December 1, 2000 at the Beverly Health Center in Columbus. A memorial service will be held at the Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, December 04, 2000 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday from noon until service time.

Hazel D. Hinck, 97, was born icon June 4, 1903 in Columbus to Fred and Charlotte (Cue) Drummond. She attended school in Columbus. On August 30, 1928 she married Ernest Hinck in Fremont, Nebraska. Ernest passed away 10 years later. Hazel worked as an office assistant to Dr Martin and Dr. Kebbie for many years. She was a life long resident of Columbus.
Hazel was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxillary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing bridge, and being with her family.

ETHEL L. LOUIS

Ethel L. Louis, 85, of Columbus, NE died Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola, NE. Services will be held at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus, NE on Thursday, August 10, 2000 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 9, from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. Luke's United Church of Christ on Thursday, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.
Ethel was born icon April 8, 1915 to Spencer and Myrtle (McGown) Rice in Columbus, NE. She attended school in Columbus. On December 24, 1929 she and George Louis were married in Avoca, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Columbus area until his death in 1983. In 1991, Ethel moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Osceola.
Ethel was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus where she was a member of Anna Circle and helped with the fall market at the church. She was a 4-H leader for 30 years and a charter member of the Country Cousin's Card Group. She loved baking and being a friend. Her grandchildren will always remember her chocolate popcorn cakes.
