Barbara Jean Harms

09/05/1944 - 1/18/2006

Barbara Jean Harms, 61, of Gering, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Regional West Medical Center, Scottsbluff.

A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel, Scottsbluff with Pastor Steve Demoret officiating. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory, Scottsbluff. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery, Scottsbluff.

Barbara was born September 5, 1944, in Scottsbluff to Alex and Anna (Dillman) Green. She graduated from Torrington High School and was united in marriage to Patrick Louis Friedlan in 1963.

Survivors include her mother, Anna Green of Gering; son, Wade Friedlan of Gering; sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Mel Ferguson of Phoenix, Arizona; nephews, Cary Ferguson of Phoenix and Scott Ferguson of Hawaii; great-nephew, Dustin Levi; and great-niece, Kendra Dee Ann.

Her father preceded her in death.

Eunice E. Schoeneman

01/11/1933 - 1/19/2006

Eunice E. Schoeneman, 73, of Gering died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, CO. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Central Church of Christ in Gering with Pastors Glen Kline, Jr. officiating. Cremation was held in Denver, CO.

Eunice was born January 11, 1933 in Wheatland, WY to Glen and Frances (Belcher) Kline. Her father worked for the sugar company so she attended school in Lyman, NE, Scottsbluff, Ovid, CO and graduated from Sterling, CO High School. She received her teaching certificate at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley in 1953 and taught school in Albany County near Guernsey, WY from 1953-1955. She married Clarence Schoeneman October 7, 1956 in Gering, NE. Eunice began her employment with Scotts Bluff County in September of 1964 where she was currently County Assessor.

She was a member of the Central Church of Christ.

She is survived by her sons, Mark and Jim both of Casper, Wy and daughter and son-in-law: Michelle and Bob Sherman of Milford, MI; two brothers: Glen Kline of Wray, CO and Ernie Kline of Wildomar, CA

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Clarence in 1999.

Frank J. Combs

07/07/1923 - 1/24/2006

Frank J. Combs, 82, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, the evening of January 24, 2006. This graceful and comforting transition was made possible by Prairie Haven Hospice.

A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 28, 2006, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel, Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. The Nebraska National Guard will provide military honors. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory, Scottsbluff.

He was born on July 7, 1923, in Boelus, Nebraska and was raised primarily in Lusk, Wyoming. Frank married Marjorie Plaster on July 9, 1943 and they had five sons.

Frank worked in the Scottsbluff area between military assignments and his service background included: U.S. Army Air Corp (3/46 -12/46), U.S. Army, Korea with Battery A, 13th Field Artillery, 24th Infantry Division (7/50 -11/51). U.S. Army, Vietnam (10/58-12/59). Frank was accompanied by his family while in the Army in Germany and France, (66-69). While in Germany, he was appointed the position of U.S. Army Sr. NCO for NATO. Frank retired from the U.S. Army active military (1969), U.S. Civil Service, (1986) and the U.S. Army Reserves - Enlisted Advisor Idaho State Reserve Units (1986). Commendations Frank received were: Bronze Star, WW II Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Scottsbluff Eagles, Elks, DAV and American Legion.
Frank enjoyed wood working, genealogy, gardening, walking on the beach, and being on his computer. When asked what his greatest enjoyment in life was, Frank answered "Being married to my wife for 63 years".

He is survived by wife Marjorie, (Scottsbluff), 3 sons: Larry & wife, Diane (Houston, Texas), Brian (Scottsbluff) and Rex & wife, Sandra (Port St. Lucie, Florida), 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sisters: Nadine (John) Wagner, (Scottsbluff), Maxine Heimbuck (Guymon, Oklahoma), in-laws: Charlotte & Harry Stanley, Laura & Jerry Staley, John & Anne Plaster (all of Scottsbluff) as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Frank was preceded in death by two sons: Ronald and Thomas Combs.

Alvin J. Law, Jr.

08/15/1928 - 1/28/2006

Alvin J. Law, Jr., 77, of Gering, died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Northfield Villa Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M.,Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff.

Alvin was born August 15, 1928 at Farmington, MI to Alvin and Leola (Wadley) Law. He received his education at Pontiac, MI and graduated with the class of 1946. In June of 1946 he moved to Sioux County, NE where he worked on his uncle’s ranch. He returned to Pontiac in August 1947 and worked at GMC Truck as a receiving inspector. In the spring of 1949 he returned to Sioux County to help out after the blizzard of 49. In January of 1950 he returned to Pontiac and worked at Pontiac Motors as a tool and die repairman. He married Iris Davy on May 27, 1950 in Pontiac, MI.

During the Korean Conflict he spent two years in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1954. He returned to Gering where he worked at Lockwood Corp for nine years. He worked at Great Western Sugar in Gering for 25 years as shop foreman and six years at Western Sugar in Scottsbluff before ill health forced his retirement in 1990.

He was active in the community where he was a member of the Gering Jaycees receiving several awards, including the Bronze Key, Gold Key and Distinguished Service Award in 1960. Alvin has been involved in Scouting since 1954 and has received several awards including the Scouter Key and the Silver Beaver.

Al was active in the Gering First United Methodist Church, serving on the official board, finance committee and trustee. He was president of his local trade union for three years.
He was active in the Panhandle Engineers Club, serving as president in 1972. He was a director at the Sugar Worker’s Credit Union, serving as vice president and president. Al was a member of Classic Chevy International and Western Wheels Studebaker Club.

He was a volunteer driver for the DAV Van and was a safe driving instructor for the AARP 55 Alive Program.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Iris; children: Christine and her husband Gary Neibauer of Aurora, CO, Patrick and his wife Debbie of Thermopolis, WY and Steven and his wife Karin of Mitchell, NE; sister: Virginia Burns of Laingsburg, MI; four grandchildren: John Law and his wife Katie of Laramie, WY, Marie Law of Thermopolis, WY, Thomas Law and Kelly Law of Mitchell, NE, three step-grandchildren: Gregg Neibauer and his wife Krista of Missoula, MT, Darcy Neibauer Davis and her husband Mark of Birmingham, MI and Nathan Neibauer of Royal Oak, MI; four step great grandchildren: Blake, Caroline and R. J. Davis of Birmingham, MI and Alexander Neibauer of Missoula, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Beatrice M. Kelley

04/07/1906 - 1/31/2006

Beatrice M. Kelley, 99, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2006 at Fairview Cemetery with Fr. Gary Young officiating.

Beatrice was born April 7, 1906 in Harrisburg, NE to John B. and Ellen Blanche (Hammocks) Snyder. She received her education at the Twin Tree School in Banner County. She married Samuel Kelley March 8, 1930 in Scottsbluff. They lived in Scottsbluff and Beatrice has lived in Beverly Health Care for several years.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff.

Beatrice is survived by: her granddaughter, Ann Elizabeth Maggoria and niece Pat and her husband Jerry Leonard of Gering.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, John and Delmar Kelley, grandson Samuel Kelley, 4 brothers and one sister.

Arthur L. Benzel

11/07/1932 - 2/5/2006

Arthur L. Benzel, 73, longtime resident died at his home entering into the loving arms of his Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2006.

A funeral mass will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Scottsbluff with Father Don Buhrman officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Scottsbluff with military honors.

Visitation is from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel, Scottsbluff with a wake service at 6:00 P.M.

Art was born November 7, 1932, in Mitchell, Nebraska to Fred and Marie (Schreiner) Benzel. He received his education at Liberty School and Scottsbluff. He joined the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in Texas and Loring Air Force Base, Maine. He met his wife, Marge of 52 years in Maine and they were married at St. Bruno’s Church in Van Buren, Maine March 3, 1954. After an honorable discharge in 1956, Art came back to Scottsbluff where he worked for B & C Steel Corporation until forming his own company, Art & Son Steel Erection Inc.

In 1988, he was forced to retire and took up woodworking as a hobby. He then had time for other hobbies, which included gardening, hunting, fishing, walking and swimming. He enjoyed walking in the mall and visiting with fellow mall walkers, swimming with special friends at the YMCA and visiting with special friends at Wal-Mart. He loved spending time with his family and being their “Special Mr. Fixit.” Art never met anyone that wasn’t his friend. He will be sadly missed by all!

Survivors include his wife and soul mate, Marjorie; son, Stephen (Kellie) Benzel of Maywood; daughters, Donna (Bill) Keisel of Sterling, Colorado, Deb Moore of Scottsbluff, Cindy (Bill) Hansen of Lincoln; grandchildren, Fredrick (Heather) Benzel of Lincoln, Crystal Benzel of Omaha, Kelsey Benzel of Maywood, Sam (Jeremy) Rohrick of Scottsbluff, Kim (Steve) Braudrick of Scottsbluff, Megan (Sean) Heine of Scottsbluff, Matt (Shannon) Moore, Jaime and Mandi Moore all of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Zach and Cody Hansen of Omaha; 2 ¾ great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion (Hank) Schwartzkopf of Portland, Oregon, Dorothy (Wally) Kirchhoff of Alliance, Eileen Jay of Scottsbluff, Janet (Darrell) Bentley of Gering, brother-in-law, Bill Groskopf of Scottsbluff; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Larry) Weidinger of Bellevue and Louise Cyr of Westfield, Massachusetts; special uncle, Bill Schreiner of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; sister, Caroline Groskopf; son-in-law, Michael Rohrick; brothers-in-law, Dwight Jay and C. Fred Cyr; and nephew, David Bentley.
