Betty Jean Nyffeler

Betty J. Nyffeler, 75, of Columbus, Nebraska, died August 18, 2001, at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus, with the Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, August 22, 2001, 2:00 PM at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be held at the Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, August 20, 2001, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ from 10:00 AM until service time.

Betty J. Nyffeler was born icon on December 23, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to James R. & Margaret C. (Petersen) Channer. She attended school in Boone County and graduated from Albion High School in 1943. She taught school in Platte County for one year before entering nurses training at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. On November 20, 1949 she married Harold Nyffeler at the First Methodist Church in Columbus. They farmed Southwest of Columbus until 1997 when they moved to Prairie Village. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse upon graduating from Platte College in 1969, after which she practiced nursing at Behlen Community Hospital, Columbus Manor, and Columbus Clinic P.C.. Betty enjoyed gardening, needlework, reading, and thoughtful caring for others.

Eilet (Ike) Kopke

Eilet (Ike) Kopke, 90, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, August 17, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.

Services will be Monday, August 20, 2001, 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Wayne Nestor officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 A.M. at the church. Interment will be at the David City Cemetery on Monday at 2:30 P.M. Visitation will be Sunday, August 19, 2001 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Monday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at church.

Eilet G. (Ike) Kipke was born icon May 8, 1911 in Butler County, Nebraska to John J. & Etta (Aden) Kopke. Ike grew up on the farm in Butler County and attended rural school near Garrison, NE. On March 6, 1938 Ike married Florinda Bauer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rising City, NE. He continued to farm in the Rising City area until they moved to Columbus in 1973. In Columbus Ike went to work for the John Deer Company until his retirement. Ike was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rising City and then joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Ike enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing.

Glendoris Krueger

Glendoris Krueger, 82, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, August 16, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus . Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus on Saturday, August 18, 2001 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Timothy White officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 12:45 PM. Interment will be at Jackson Cemetery in Duncan, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, August 17, 2001 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 18, 2001 from 12:00 - 1:00 PM.

Glendoris Arvilla Engel was born icon on November 7, 1918 on the family farm west of Duncan, Nebraska. She was the second of three children born icon to Oscar and Ottilia (Grossnicklaus) Engel. Glendoris attended Duncan Public School and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1938. After graduation she helped on the family farm and was also employed at the Lutheran Hospital in Columbus, until her marriage. She married Walter Krueger on September 10, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. They farmed for 37 years southwest of Duncan. Walter died in 1989 and Glendoris continued to live on their farm, until she moved to Beverly Healthcare in 1999. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was confirmed in 1933 and was a member of the Ladies Aid. Glendoris also attended St. John's Lutheran Church and Fairview Methodist Church near Silver Creek, Nebraska where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1942 and was honored as a 50 year member in 1992. She loved living in the country and enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing her harvest. She was always willing to help others.

Mildred L. Kuntzelman

Mildred L. Kuntzelman, 90, of Fremont, Nebraska died Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at the Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont. Private Family Services will be held.

Mildred L. Kuntzelman was born icon August 26, 1910 in Omaha, NE to Fred & Della (Goodwin) Lightfoot. She graduated from Omaha South High School. On August 8, 1948 she married Allan Kuntzelman in Omaha. They lived in Des Moines, IA where they owned and operated Capital Rentals for many years. In 1979 they retired and moved to California and in 1999 they moved back to Nebraska.

Robert L. Harrison

Robert L. Harrison, 75, of David City, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at the Osceola Good Samaritan Center in Osceola, Nebraska. Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ingrid Hoper officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska, with Military Honors by the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84. There will be no visitation.
Robert Lee (Coulter) Harrison, was born icon December 18, 1925 in Pittsfield, IL to Arthur Esco Coulter and Mary Ann Bigsby. He was later adopted by Georgia (Browning) Harrison in 1941. On January 29, 1943 he enlisted in the US Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. He was honorable discharged on February 29, 1946.

While stationed in Kearney, Nebraska he met and married June Wolf in 1945. Robert graduated from Kearney State College in 1950 with a BA in Education. He taught school for many years throughout Nebraska.
Robert owned and operated a small grocery store in Hallam, Nebraska for a short period of time. He also served as a Psychologist at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln. Later he became an independent insurance agent and officed in Columbus, Nebraska.
He was a member of the American Legion, the David City Country Club and a past member of the Jaycee's. He was a simple man who enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting.

Verna Hellbusch, 79, of Columbus, Nebraska died August 17, 2001 at her home in Columbus. Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church (14 miles north), rural Columbus, NE on Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, August 20, 2001 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. John's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 22, 2001 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
Verna was born icon November 2, 1921 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to J. Otto and Ida (Hoefelman) Osten. She attended St. John's Lutheran School and District 28 rural school, and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. After graduation, she worked at home. She married Albert Hellbusch on January 10, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church (14 miles north), Columbus, Nebraska. She spent most of her life on the family farm. She was a lifetime resident of Platte County. She enjoyed needle work, gardening and playing cards. She was a member of the church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Clara C. Minnick

Clara Minnick, 80, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Bellwood, Nebraska, died December 5, 2001 in Lincoln. Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, December 10, 2001 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Steve Nofel officiating. Interment will be at the Bellwood Cemetery in Bellwood.
Visitation will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Lincoln, on Saturday, December 8, 2001 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM and at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, December 9, 2001 from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Monday, December 10, 2001 from 9:00 AM until service time. Memorials may be directed to the South Central Development Services in Cozad, Nebraska or to the Special Olympics.

Clara was born icon January 15, 1921 in Kearney, Nebraska to Albert and Clara (Ice) Landis. She attended school in Kearney and on January 16, 1942 she married John Minnick in Beatrice, Nebraska. Together they made their home in Bellwood, Nebraska. For many years they owned and operated the Bellwood Grocery Store. Clara was also employed at Dale Electronics for 27 years. After the death of her husband (Dec. 3, 1996) she moved to a retirement village in Lincoln, Nebraska.
