Helen M. Weber, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, September 28, 2001 at the Schuyler Nursing Center in Schuyler, Nebraska.

Services will be held at St. Luke's United Church of Christ Columbus, NE on Monday, October 01, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at Columbus Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, September 30, 2001 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. Luke's United Church of Christ Columbus, NE on Monday, October 1, 2001 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM Monday at the church.

Helen M. Weber was born icon July 14, 1904 in rural Columbus, Nebraska to Frederick and Wilhelmina (Egger) Boesiger. She married Byron T. Weber on April 21, 1925 in Columbus, Nebraska. They lived at Oconee until 1946, then moved to Columbus.

Helen was a past member and held many offices in the St. Luke's Women's Fellowship, she was a past member of World War I Barracks organization at the American Legion, VFW Auxiliary, Sunshine Community Club of Oconee, the City of Columbus Election Board and a driver for Friendly Neighbors. She was a member of the Town and Country Extension Club and St. Luke's United Church of Christ.

Lester L. Rowe

Lester L. Rowe, 80 of Columbus, NE died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at his home in Columbus.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, NE on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln, NE on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. and at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, from 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M.

Lester L. Rowe was born icon September 12, 1920 in Vesta, NE to Clarence A. & Julia A. (Gariss) Rowe. Lester attended school in Vesta. On August 4, 1941, Lester married Pauline E. Nichols in Tecumseh, NE. Lester served in the U.S. Army and was a 1st Sergeant with the 389th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in WWII. In 1960 they moved to Columbus and in 1966 helped organize the Husker Steel Company. He served as General Manager and continued to work until his death. Lester was active in the American Legion, Harold's Square Dance Club, and First United Methodist Church.

Louis Earl Woods

Louis E. Woods, 90, of Columbus, died Sunday, July 29, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus .

Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Saturday, August 04, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. William Effa officiating. Interment will be at Columbus Cemetery.

Louis E. Woods was born icon February 27, 1911 in Somers, Iowa to Thomas Alfred and Minnie Bell (Kirkpatrick) Woods. He served in Civilian Conservation Corps and worked for Boeing during WW II building B-29 bomber airplanes. Louis married Velma Holden on March 6, 1935 in Sidney, IA., she died in 1960, he married Phyllis (Wiedel) Koci on June 11, 1968 in Lincoln, NE., she also preceded him in death. Louis was a farmer early in his life then owned and operated Woods Texaco for 25 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved gardening.

Clarence R. Cattau

Clarence R. Cattau, 89, of Creston, Nebraska died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska .

Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, Nebraska on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday at 10:15 AM at the church.

Clarence R. Cattau was born icon February 2, 1914 in rural Leigh, Nebraska to Louis and Sophia (Robert) Cattau. He attended Platte County District #46 school and Christ Lutheran School. He married Rose Otte on March 14, 1943 at Christ Lutheran Church. Clarence was a life long Platte County farmer and operated a road maintainer in several townships for 47 years. He loved horses, music, and playing accordion and drums with a local group for 10 years. He was one of the last farmers to use horses to do his farm work with. Clarence was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Katherine E. Croisant

Katherine Croisant, 86 of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 13, 2003, 10:00 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. and on Monday from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. all at Gass Haney Funeral Home.

Katherine E. Croisant was born icon May 29, 1917 in rural Columbus, Nebraska to Frank & Melinda (Schmoll) Luchsinger. She graduated from Kramer High School in 1935. She worked in Columbus as a cashier and a bookkeeper for Scott's Dime Store for many years. On June 21, 1947, Katherine married Floyd Croisant in Wayne, Nebraska. She helped work on their farm near Stromsburg, Nebraska before they moved to Columbus. Katherine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the 35 Club. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards.

Vera M. Brauner, 74 of Lindsay, Nebraska died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at Mory's Haven in Columbus, Nebraska.

Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, October 10, 2003 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the St. Ansgar- Rosenburg Cemetery in rural Lindsay, Nebraska. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and continue on Friday, from 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 AM on Friday at the funeral home.

Vera was born icon May 14, 1929 in Lindsay, Nebraska to Peter and Emma (Krogh) Christensen. She attended Platte County Dist. 64 school, graduated from Newman Grove High School, attended Grandview Business College, Des Moines, Iowa and Commercial Business College, Omaha, Nebraska each for one year.
She married Merlyn Brauner on February 1, 1951 at St. Ansgar, Rosenberg (rural Lindsay). She loved the out of doors, gardening, cooking and being a part of the farm and the work that went along with it. Vera was a life long resident of the county.

Ruth I. Betsworth

Ruth Irene Betsworth, 91, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus. Services are Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Neely officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Kansas with Rev. Ken Parker officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 27, 2002 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 from 10:00 AM until service time all at the funeral home.

Ruth Irene Betsworth was born icon on the family farm on February 13, 1911 in Beloit, Kansas to Ward E. & Jessie F. (Ashworth) Warburton. Ruth attended Star School in rural Jewell County, Kansas. On December 30, 1933 she married William Sanders in Clifton, Kansas. After living for many years in Kansas, Ruth moved to Genoa, Nebraska in 1961. On January 28, 1962 she married Leo Betsworth in Genoa. In 1967 she moved to Columbus, Nebraska. Ruth worked for Dale Electronics in Columbus and retired in 1970. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus where she also taught Sunday School. Ruth spent a lot of time reading and studying the Bible. Ruth enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. She also spent a lot of time visiting with other residents at the nursing home.
