Arlo Runge

Arlo Runge, 64, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, August 15, 2002 at his home. The funeral service will be Monday, August 19, 2002, 2:00 P.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek with Rev. Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in rural Columbus with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post # 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 18 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Monday, August 19 from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church will a family prayer service at 1:45 P.M.

Arlo G. Runge was born icon December 16, 1937 in Columbus, Nebraska to August G. and Adela A. (Siefken) Runge Sr. Arlo attended District # 2 grade school and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. He entered the the U.S. Army on September 22, 1961 and earned the Expert Badge with Bar (Rifle M-14), and the Good Conduct Medal. Arlo was honorably discharged on September 21, 1963. On September 28, 1963, he married Ingeborg Rosser in Columbus, Nebraska. Arlos' work with the railroad took him to Oregon and then to Idaho for many years. He returned to Columbus in 1993 and worked for Husker COOP. Arlo was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He also enjoyed his yardwork and doing landscaping.

Mildred M. Wurdeman

Mildred M. Wurdeman, 77, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, August 16, 2002 at the Beverly HealthCare Center in Columbus.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 20, 2002, 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Monday, August 19, 2002 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:45 A.M.

Mildred M. "Millie" Wurdeman was born icon September 26, 1924 in Leigh, Nebraska to William J. and Mathilda L. (Cattau) Korte. She attended school in Platte Center, Nebraska. On February 12, 1945 she married Raymond W. Wurdeman in Platte Center. Mildred worked in Columbus as a seamstress for many years at Levine Brothers Clothing and then also at Schweser's. She also worked as a bartender and at the Columbus Telegram. Millie spent a lot of time working at home and raising her family. She served as past-president for the American Legion Auxiliary and for TOPS. Mildred was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, where she received her "Mother Of The Year" award, and treasurer for AAL for many years. At Immanuel Lutheran Church she was active in the LWML and also the Evening Guild. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Eva Spuit

Eva Spuit, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.

The funeral service will be Saturday, December 28, 2002, 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Valley View Cemetery in Genoa, Nebraska on Saturday at 1:30 P.M. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9:30 -10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Eva Spuit was born icon September 1, 1914 in rural Genoa, Nebraska to Edward and Josephine (Adolphson) Swanson. She was educated in the Genoa Schools. Eva married Virgil Spuit on February 1, 1939 in Fremont, Nebraska. She was a lifetime resident of Genoa. Eva farmed with her husband and enjoyed gardening, cooking and family.

Leo B. Wortman

Leo B. Wortman, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, December 27, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus on Monday, December 30, 2002 at 10:00 AM with Father Mark Bridgman officiating. Interment will be at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska at 3:15 PM on Monday.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM at the funeral home.

Leo Wortman was born icon December 14, 1914 in Grinnell, Iowa to Benjamin and Anna (Harter) Wortman. He graduated from Grinnell High School. Leo married Irene Hewitt on July 5, 1939 in Grinnell. He entered the US Army on August 2, 1943 and served in the 298th Combat Engineer Battalion. He participated in the invasion of Europe, including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with three overseas service bars, the European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with one silver battle star, the good conduct medal and the World War 2 victory medal. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1945 obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
For 36 years, Leo was a store manager for Montgomery Wards, with the last 16 years in Columbus. Leo enjoyed woodworking, specializing in making clocks. He also enjoyed playing Bridge, watching sports and taking pictures.

Wilma Seidel

Wilma Seidel, 81, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at her home. Services are Saturday, May 18, 2002, 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation is on Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Gass Haney Funeral Home from 3:00-8:00 P.M. and on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church from 9:30 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday at 10:15 A.M. at the church.

Wilma Seidel was born icon September 28, 1920 in Grand Island, Nebraska to William & Nellie (Sperry) Bordner. After moving to Columbus at an early age, Wilma graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1938. On September 7, 1941 she married Tom Seidel in Columbus. They lived most of their lives in Columbus where Wilma worked for 18 years as the secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church and also 20 years at J. C. Penney. Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and being outside with the animals. She was active in the Starlighters Extension Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was formerly a Girl Scout leader and secretary for NARFE.

Cecelia B. Ramaekers

Cecelia B. Ramaekers, 91, of Genoa, Nebraska died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Genoa Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 10:30 AM at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa, with Father Robert Nienaber officiating. Interment is at the Valley View Cemetery in Genoa. Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM with an Altar Society Rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Parish Rosary at 7:30 PM, and on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM all at the church.

Cecelia B. Ramaekers was born icon September 16, 1911 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Frank & Christina (German) Ternus. Cecelia grew up in the Humphrey area and attended District 19 and Humphrey St. Francis High School. She married Edward Ramaekers on October 27, 1936 in Humphrey. They lived in Lindsay and Madison before moving to Genoa in 1956. Cecelia worked at home and raised her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Cecelia also enjoyed working in her garden and taking care of her flowers. She belonged to several card clubs and also spent a lot of time crocheting. Cecelia was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Alter Society.
