William D. "Bill" Klink

William, 91, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus.
Services will be held at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus on Monday, March 19, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM and at St. Luke's United Church of Christ on Monday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM, Monday at the church.

Bill Klink, was born icon January 5, 1910 near Scotland, South Dakota to Daniel and Christine (Magstadt) Klink. He attended school in Scotland. On February 18, 1934 he married Hulda Mueller in Columbus. Together they farmed in South Dakota until 1946 when they purchased a farm west of Columbus. Bill was a charter member of the Monroe Fire Board District and a member of Farm Bureau. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ and served in various capacities.
In 1970 he received the Platte County Soil & Water Conservation District Conservation Award and in 1994 he received the Columbus Area Senior Farmer Award. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, flowers, fruit trees, strawberry's, and raising gloxinia's.

William is survived by:

Martha Kluver

Martha Kluver, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska, died March 9, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. A memorial service and visitation will be held at a later date. Martha was cremated.

Martha Kluver was born icon June 4, 1903 in Valley County near Ord, Nebraska to August & Mathilde (Ziemke) Graul. She graduated from Ord High School in 1920 and attended the University of Nebraska. Mrs. Kluver taught in the rural schools of Valley County, Nebraska, 2 years in Chappell, Nebraska, and in the primary grades in the Columbus Public Schools. She married Walter Kluver in Columbus on September 6, 1929. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a young girl at the age of 14, and attended the First Baptist Church in Columbus for many years where she was active as a soloist and choir member, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society.

Martha served for 30 years in Girl Scouting in Columbus and held a life-time membership in PTA, served on the Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Columbus and Platte County Historical Society. Martha enjoyed music, reading, sewing, knitting and crocheting.

Norma Lucia "Berends" Lavender

Norma "Berends" Lavender, 79, of Oceanside, California, died June 7, 2001 at the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California. Memorial services will be held on July 7, 2001 at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, Nebraska (14 miles north) at 11:00 AM with the Rev. John Hellwege officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

Norma was born icon December 6, 1921 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Theodore Reinhardt Berends and Tena Trientje Johanna Rosendahl. She attended elementary school at St. John's Lutheran School and graduated valedictorian from Kramer High School in Columbus. She then enrolled at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. In 1948 she graduated with honors with a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, she went to Washington D.C. where she began her Civil Service career in the State Department in 1949. After two years in Washington D.C., she moved to California, where she married Ray Lavender in September, 1951, and began working for the Air Force at March Air Force Base, Riverside, California. In 1959, the family was transferred to Francis E. Warren, AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Norma worked in the Command Section there until Ray retired in 1963. The family then moved back to Riverside and Norma worked at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California for several years before returning to the Command Section of March Air Force Base in 1965.She served as the Executive Secretary for the Commanding General of 15th Air Force for 31 years. She retired in 1986 with 37 years in the Civil Service.

Norma was the youngest child of a large family with four brothers and four sisters. Her hobbies and interests included being a rabid and loyal University of Nebraska Cornhusker Alumnus and football fan, reading, the theatre, and world affairs. She was also a member and past president of the women's service organization, Altrusa International. She was a longtime member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Riverside, where she was very active as a volunteer in the office and bible study. When she moved to Oceanside, she became a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Vista, California.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbus, or to the Alzheimer's Association of San Diego, 8514 Commerce Ave., San Diego, CA, 92121

Harry F. Nauenburg

Harry F. Nauenburg, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.

Harry F. Nauenburg was born icon February 27, 1906 in rural Columbus, Nebraska to Louis and Anna (Yeiter) Nauenburg. He married Harriett Jacobs on February 13, 1931 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He farmed his entire life west of Columbus. Harry served for a number of years on the District 25 School Board. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Ruth Elaine Krumland, 80, of St. Charles, Missouri, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon, Missouri . Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus on Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank and Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.

Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, August 26, 2002 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Immanuel Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Tuesday, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 AM on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran School, Alzheimer's Association or donors choice.

Ruth Elaine Krumland was born icon April 13, 1922 in St. Edward, Nebraska to George and Bess (Novotny) Price. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Edward. Ruth attended grade school and high school in St. Edward. She later attended business school in Sioux City, Iowa. Ruth and Harold Krumland were united in marriage on November 7, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas. After the war, Ruth and Harold made their home in Columbus, where they owned and operated Boulevard Lanes for many years. Ruth was a long time and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus where she was a member of the Evening Guild. She worked for many years at Sears in Columbus and enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards, family outings at the river and playing scrabble.

Lucile E. Aerni, 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, December 23, 2002 at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus. Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.

Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday at 10:15 AM at the chapel.

Lucile was born icon January 17, 1913 in Columbus, Nebraska to Albert and Mary (Newman) Lutz. She graduated from Columbus High School. Lucile married Fred L. Aerni on June 15, 1935 in Columbus and worked as a sales clerk at Montgomery Wards for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
