Jennie A. Lange, 82 of Osceola Good Samaritan Center, Osceola, Nebraska formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be held at Shell Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, June 01, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Nathan Witt officiating. Interment will be at the Shell Creek Baptist Cemetery in rural Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, May 31, 2002 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Shell Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, June 1, 2002 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
Jennie Anne Lange was born
September 6, 1919 in Corona, South Dakota to Hisko and Janna (Vust) DeBoer. She attended school in rural Corona. She married Bert Lange on February 11, 1948 in Corona. While living in Corona she cared for her parents. She moved to rural Columbus in 1948. Jennie was a homemaker and a member of the Shell Creek Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school.

Ann Kutilek
Ann Kutilek, 94, of Aurora, Nebraska formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2002 at 10:30 AM at the Federated Church in Columbus with Dr. Dorsie Ivy officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM on Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM Friday at the church.
Ann Kutilek was born
July 26, 1908 in Omaha, Nebraska to John & Antonie (Vodicka) Cerveny, Czechoslovakia immigrants. Ann was the seventh of ten children and was the last surviving member of the family. She graduated from Omaha South High School. As a youth she was active in gymnastics and belonged to the Sokols of South Omaha.
On June 19, 1933 she married Emil Kutilek in Omaha. The couple lived in South Omaha until 1944 before moving to Columbus where Mr. Kutilek managed Bee Line Motor Freight until his retirement.
Ann enjoyed singing, playing golf and bridge. She was a member of the Elks Country Club, Ladies of the Nile and several bridge clubs. She was a member of the Federated Church and sang in the church choir for many years.

David Lee Lloyd
David Lee Lloyd, 49, of Las Vegas, Nevada (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska), died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 in Las Vegas. Private family interment will be on November 14, 2002 at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.
David Lee Lloyd was born
September 16, 1953 in Columbus to David W. and Gladys (Will) Lloyd. He graduated from Lakeview High School in Columbus and attended Milford College. He worked as an electrician at Appleton Electric and Marley's Electric in Columbus.

Harold "Cowboy" Bob Laudenklos
Harold "Cowboy" Bob Laudenklos, 64, of Monroe, Nebraska died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 18, 2002 at 10:30 AM at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Columbus, Nebraska with Father Joe Miksch officiating. Interment will be at the All Saints Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Monday, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Harold "Cowboy" Bob Laudenklos was born
May 10, 1938 in Columbus, Nebraska to Harry and Emma (Thayer) Laudenklos Sr. He attended District 4 school and graduated from Platte Center High School in 1955. Bob married Phyllis Parolek on May 26, 1962 in Schuyler, Nebraska. He worked for the Platte County Highway Department for 46 years, as an equipment operator. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, where he was an usher and greeter and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12086. Bob was a 40 year member of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a founding member of the Silver Spurs Saddle Club, an assistant leader of the Buckeroos 4-H Club, a member of the American Pinto Horse Association, the American Paint Horse Association and the Nebraska Cattleman's Association.

Winnie B. Oppliger, 73, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, November 15, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
A memorial services will be held at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church Columbus, Nebraska on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mike Neely officiating. Private family interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus on Tuesday, November 19, 2002. There will be no visitation.
Winnie B. Oppliger was born
July 1, 1929 in Hallock, Minnesota to H.H. and Elizabeth (Burris) Olson. The family moved to Nebraska in 1940. She graduated from Humphrey High School in Humphrey, Nebraska. She then attended and graduated from Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Columbus for many years as well as Mory's Haven and Columbus Manor nursing homes. She also did private nursing.
She married E. H. "Bud" Oppliger on November 26, 1955 in Columbus, Nebraska. They lived south of Columbus in Polk County. For the past 13 years, Winnie spent the winters in Texas.
Winnie was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus where she was a member of the women's missionary group. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, shopping, baking and especially spending time with her children and grand children. Her Christian faith was a very important part of her life and seeing that her children and grandchildren were brought up as Christians was her main goal in life.

LeRoy (Roy) F. Lange, 72, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, October 12, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus, Nebraska.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 10:30 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post 84. There will be no visitation.
LeRoy F. Lange was born
April 9, 1930 at Imperial, Nebraska to Jens K. and Lillian (Beran) Lange. He graduated from Kramer High School and then worked for a construction company. He entered the Nebraska National Guard and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, he served for 17 years. He married Mary Bannon on June 28, 1989 at Columbus, Nebraska. LeRoy worked at the New World Inn and then the Elks Country Club until July of 2002. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Nebraska.

Dorothy Nelson, 81, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at her home in Columbus.
A rosary will be held on Monday, September 30, 2002, at 6:30 P.M. followed by a memorial mass at 7:00 P.M. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Tom Weisbecker officiating.
Dorothy Nelson was born
May 20, 1921 in Bend, OR to Douglas L. and Mabel (Falkenhagen) Hood. After graduating from high school, Dorothy attended beauty college and also a business school. On September 11, 1943, Dorothy married Robert V. Nelson in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Her time was spent staying home and raising their six children. She leaves behind an enormous legacy of love, warmth, dedication, honesty, and humor to her family and friends.

Dr. Herbert D. Kuper
Dr. Herbert D. Kuper, 92 of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at his home.
Services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2002 at 2:00 PM at the Federated Church with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Private family interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Masonic service at Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Dr. Herbert Dietrich Kuper was born
March 25, 1910 in Nelson, Nebraska to Dietrich G. and Maria H. (Schmidt) Kuper. After graduation from high school in Nelson, and two years of teaching in a rural school, he began pre-medical studies at Hastings (NE) College. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1936. He married Marie Bay on January 9, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Kuper first practiced in Kenesaw and Leigh before moving to Columbus in 1947. Dr. Kuper also took post-graduate work in general surgery and gynecology in Chicago and New York. At the time of his retirement in 1983, he had been a practicing family physician for 47 years.
Continuing his life-long interest in education after his teaching career ended, Dr. Kuper served on school boards in Leigh and later in Columbus, where his sixteen years of service included being president of the Columbus Public School board. He was a lifetime member of the PTA, and was honored in 1991 with the Columbus Public School Bell Award for his work in education. Dr. Kuper was also a past director of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Columbus Rotary and the Columbus Community Hospital Staff. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Academy of Family Physicians, and a member and past president of the Nebraska Chapter of Family Practice. He was a member of the Federated Church, Lebanon Lodge #323 A.F. & A.M., Platte Valley York Rite and Sesostris Shrine Temple. In recognition of his community service, Dr. Kuper was crowned King Ferdinand X during annual Columbus Days festivities in 1984.
