Kenneth G. Nitz

Kenneth G. Nitz, 80 of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Columbus died Friday, April 18, 2003 at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church Columbus, Nebraska on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at First United Methodist Church Tuesday, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. There will be a family prayer service Tuesday at 1:45 P.M. at the church.

Kenneth G. Nitz was born icon November 15, 1922 in Stanton, Nebraska to John and Freda (Botsch) Nitz. He attended Stanton Schools and Creighton University. Kenneth married Oneta Howell in 1943 at St. Louis, MO. He was a bombardier with the 12th Air Force during World War II.
He owned and operated Nitz's Furniture and Appliance Store in Columbus for 36 years. He was an active member and held offices in the Chamber of Commerce, United Methodist Church, Pawnee Shrine Club and SCORE. He was member of the Elks Lodge and Country Club, Forum Club and OFC. He lived in Columbus for 52 years, moving to Lincoln in January of 2002. His hobbies were reading, golf, dancing, traveling and playing bridge. Kenneth enjoyed his family and friends and had a wonderful life. He will be greatly missed.

Lowell W. Feye

Lowell W. Feye, 75, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at his residence. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Columbus on Friday, April 04, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Leigh, Nebraska at 1:00 PM with Military Honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84.

Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, April 3, 2003 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service on Friday at 10:15 AM at the church.

Lowell Feye was born icon in Platte County, Nebraska on March 11, 1928 to Walter and Florence (Lueschen) Feye. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Leigh, Nebraska. He was active in Luther League, was a Luther League sponsor, Sunday school teacher and a church council member. Lowell was elected State Luther League President in 1948.
He attended rural grade school at Boheet, District #46, in Sherman Township and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1945. During High School, Lowell was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was elected State President of that organization in 1946. He also earned the "American Farmer" award from the FFA.
He lived in rural Platte County with his parents until February 1951. He married Ruth B. McMullin on February 24th, 1951 at Vermillion, South Dakota. They moved to Columbus and lived there until 1953. Lowell was a member of the Columbus National Guard and entered active service on January 21, 1953. He attained the rank of Sgt. First Class and was honorably discharged on January 20, 1955. While in the service, they lived in Indiana and Colorado. Their son Steve was born icon in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1954. They moved to the farm near Leigh in March of 1955. Jim Comeford became a part of the family in 1983.
Lowell was a member of the Leigh Community School Board of Education for 12 years and a School Bus Driver for 17 years. He farmed there until March of 1985. He was an Area Livestock Feed Representative for Walnut Grove Feed Company for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion, serving as Area Vice Commander and then State Commander from 1983 - 1984. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Thomas L. Lyon Sr.

Thomas L. Lyon Sr., 54, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services will be held at the Federated Church on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM at the church. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery on Saturday at 9:30 AM with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Thomas L. Lyon Sr. was born icon May 17, 1949 at Columbus, Nebraska to Royal and Anna Mae (Wallin) Lyon. He attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1968. Thomas married Janet Griffith on June 18, 1971. He served in United States Marine Corps from March 30, 1972 to January 4, 1974. He was the manager and a truck driver for Lyon Transfer Company. He served as a board member of the Columbus Bowling Association for 6 years. Thomas was an avid bowler, and had been a coach for many girls little league teams. He enjoyed mathematics.

Lucille Luchsinger

Lucille Luchsinger, 84, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services are Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will follow at Columbus Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 AM at the church.

Visitations will be on Tuesday, February 11 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home, and on Wednesday, February 12, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church.

Ms. Luchsinger was born icon August 29, 1918 in Columbus to Frank and Melinda (Schmoll) Luchsinger. She attended Columbus city schools and graduated from Kramer High School in 1936, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was employed at First National Bank and Trust Co. in Columbus as an executive secretary to the president, and retired in 1983 after 44 years of service. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was confirmed in 1932 and was a former member of the church choir. She was a member of the "36" club, the American Association of Retired Persons and enjoyed going to the horse races.

Bertha B. Lewis

Bertha B. Lewis, 99, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, January 9, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church, Columbus at 10:30 AM with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at Postville Cemetery, rural Monroe, Nebraska. Visitations will be held on Sunday, January 12 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM. Memorials may be directed to the Postville Cemetery Association.

Bertha B. Lewis was born icon January 14, 1903 in rural Monroe, Nebraska to Richard & Elizabeth (Jones) Jones. She attended District 32 School, rural Monroe. On February 25, 1923 she married Raymond Lewis in Omaha, Nebraska. She lived and farmed with Raymond in Joliet Township north of Monroe all her life. Bertha was a past member of Postville, OKay, and Monroe United Methodist Church and currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Extension Clubs at both churches in Monroe and Columbus. She was also involved in the U & I Club, Farm Bureau, and the Republican Party.

Dale Alvis

Dale Alvis, 78, of Osceola, Nebraska (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Friday, January 10, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Private graveside services will be held at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dale was born icon January 30, 1924 in Council Bluffs to William and Laura (Borders) Alvis. He attended school in Council Bluffs. He entered the US Air Force on December 15, 1941 and was discharged on October 11, 1957.

L. Otto Lutjelusche, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at David Place in David City, Nebraska.

Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Roland A. Jank & Rev. David Palomaki officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM on Saturday at the church.

L. Otto Lutjelusche was born icon April 17, 1910 in rural Colfax County, Nebraska to Louis & Camilla (Plugge) Lutjelusche. He attended rural Colfax school and Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska. He married Alva Marty on June 30, 1942 at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, Nebraska. Otto was engaged in farming his entire life. He also enjoyed playing cards. Otto was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.
