Olga Engelbart

Olga (Mrs. Oswald) Engelbart, 94, of Clarkson, Nebraska, formerly of the Leigh area, died Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the Alegent Health Memorial Hospital in Schuyler, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be Monday, March 13, 2:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Pastor Guy Engelbart officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 12 from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. and on Monday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Leigh Rescue Unit.

Olga T. Engelbart was born icon November 23, 1911 near Schuyler, Nebraska to George and Theresia (Distler) Loseke. She attended district school in rural Schuyler. Olga was the youngest of eight children and the longest lived of all her siblings. Olga married Oswald Engelbart on September 22, 1936 in Madison, Nebraska. In March of 1942, they moved to a farm west of Leigh, Nebraska where she would reside for 62 years. After breaking her hip, she spent her last 17 months at the Colonial Manor in Clarkson, Nebraska.

Olga experienced many ups and downs in her life as both a homemaker and farmer. For 12 years she cared for her father-in-law and her elderly mother. Olga's family and friends benefited from two of her personal interests, cooking and craftwork. Olga always enjoyed and appreciated the friendship, warmth, and help of her friends and family.

Monica M. Wunderlich

Monica M. Wunderlich, 89 of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Morys Haven in Columbus.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 23 at 10:30 AM at the Federated Church in Columbus with Rev. Don Wilson and Rev. Jane Ellefson officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday at 10:15 AM at the church.

Monica Maxine Wunderlich was born icon January 20, 1915 in Schuyler, Nebraska to Donald and Julia (Dworak) McLeod. The family moved to Genoa, Nebraska where she graduated from high school. After high school, Monica worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Columbus where she met Max Wunderlich while he was a patient there. She and Max were married on January 7, 1937 in Papillion, Nebraska. She joined her husband in running Wunderlich's Friendly Bar in Columbus.
Monica loved to fish, travel with the family, piano music, and big band music. She had a great sense of humor, loved being around the family business, and being with her family.

Wilbert Wilken

Wilbert Wilken, 93 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2008, at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Art Brinkmeyer and Rev. David Palomaki officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Monday from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM. Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Grade School.

Wilbert Louis Wilken was born icon July 18, 1914, to August Louis and Emma Wilhemina (Krumland) Wilken on the family farm ten miles north of Columbus. He was the third of six children. He was educated through the eighth grade at Christ Lutheran School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1932. During his high school years he began working as a stock boy in the J.C. Penney store in Columbus and continued with them as a full time employee after graduation. He married Ruby Behlen on August 18, 1940. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and assumed numerous leadership positions within his congregations over his many years. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club International.

During his years with the Penney Company, he was promoted to become a store manager, working in stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa. He retired from the Penney Company in 1974 while living in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Over the next few years he taught at Iowa Western Community College, worked with the Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE), and golfed. To facilitate this habit in cold weather, he and Ruby began spending winters in southern Texas. In 1986 they returned to Columbus and resided at Wagner's Lakes.

Melvin Hueschen

Melvin Hueschen, 85, of Monroe, Nebraska died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services are Saturday, December 21, 2002, 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Grand Prairie. Visitation will be on Friday, December 20 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday, December 21 from 9:00 - 10:00 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 9:45 A.M.

Melvin J. Hueschen was born icon February 19, 1917 in rural Platte Center, Nebraska to Henry and Rose (Sherman) Hueschen. He attended parochial grade school, District 17, and graduated from Platte Center High School. He married Esther Goering April 17, 1940 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie. Melvin farmed in the rural Platte Center area. He served on the District 17 School Board, and the Reorganization Board at Lakeview High School. Melvin was active at the Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie, where he served on the church council, and he was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Melvin had a life long passion for baseball and played well into his 50's. He loved making homemade ice cream for his grandchildren and family.

Robert "Frank" Hicks

Robert "Frank" Hicks, 72 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, February 4, 2008, in Marengo, Iowa.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a family prayer service on at 10:15 AM. Memorials are the donor's choice.

Frank was born icon July 6th, 1935, in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Baker High School in Columbus in 1953 and received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech University.

Frank was the father of five children from his marriage to Mary Ellen Hicks and step-father to three children from his marriage to Shirley Hicks. He put his education to work in the marketing and distribution of electrical parts and supplies. His electrical expertise and keen business sense allowed him to develop and operate an electrical distribution company based in Columbus, NE called Roger's Wholesale Electric that grew to include four branches across the state.

Frank developed and enjoyed many friendships through his love of playing golf and bridge in the Columbus, Nebraska, community. He also enjoyed extensive travel both domestically and abroad after retiring from the electrical supply business.

COLUMBUS -- Nevaeh Connelly, infant daughter of Melinda Connelly and Terry Evans, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at the Children's Hospital in Omaha. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery with Fr. Tom Weisbecker officiating.

Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home, 2109 14th Street in Columbus.

Nevaeh was born icon Feb. 25, 2008, at the Alegent Health Memorial Hospital in Schuyler.

Nevaeh is survived by her father, Terry Evans of Columbus; mother, Melinda Connelly of Columbus; sister, Selby Connelly; brother, Xavier Evans; sisters, Tiffany Evans, Lady Taylor Evans, and Diane Evans; grandparents, Jimmie and Bertha Evans of Milwaukee, Wis. and John and Betsy Connelly of Columbus; great-grandmother, Betty Connelly of Norfolk; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

OMAHA -- Services for John E. Riley Jr., 80, of Omaha, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Faith Covenant Church, 8333 Fort St. in Omaha. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. with the family present from 3-6 p.m. at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th Street in Omaha.

John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Joanne Riley of Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Caren and Karl Jensen of Ft. Calhoun; grandchildren, Laura Riley, Shaun (Erin) Riley, Inga (Chad) Reischl, Jacob Jensen, and Rachel Jensen; great-grandchildren, Dylan Kingston, Mya Reischl, and Dane Jensen; sister, Colleen McInroy; and other family and friends.

Joyce, Kylie, and Olivia Bunn

FREMONT -- Joyce A. Bunn, 41; Kylie Ann Bunn, 3; and Olivia Christine Bunn, 2; of Fremont, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at their home.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 3400 East 16th in Fremont with Father Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.

Vigil service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday with a book signing from 1-5 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N. Somers in Fremont. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, also at the chapel.

Joyce was born icon July 11, 1966, in Fremont. She was a 1984 graduate of Bergan High School and attended Kearney State College at Kearney for two years.

She is survived by her mother, Nancy Dohmen of Fremont; brother David Dohmen of Valley; sister, Sandy Dohmen of Fremont; and former husband and friend, Chris Bunn of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Dohmen; and grandparents, Laverna Alexander and Nick and Mary Dohmen.

Kylie was born icon June 12, 2004, at LasVegas, Nev. She moved with her family from Pahrump, Nev. to Fremont in May 2007. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and attended Fremont Children’s Academy.

Olivia was born icon Aug. 31, 2005, at LasVegas, Nev. She moved with her family from Pahrump, Nev. to Fremont in May 2007. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and attended Fremont Children’s Academy.

Kylie and Olivia are survived by their father, Chris Bunn of Fremont; grandparents, Nancy Dohmen and Harvey and Deborah Bunn, all of Fremont; great-grandparents, Viola Bunn and Charles Dodd, both of Fremont, and Elmer and Dolores Johnson of Omaha; aunts and uncles, Paula and Matt Nannen of Waukee, Iowa, Sandy Dohmen of Fremont, and David Dohmen of Valley; and cousins, Emma and Jacob Nannen of Waukee, Iowa.
