Lora Lee Stauffer

5/5/1914 - 2/27/2004

Lora Lee Stauffer 89, formerly of Minatare, died Friday, February 27, 2004 at Kimball Manor.

Memorial Services will be held at the Kimball Manor at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 5, 2004. Funeral services will be held at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Friday. Internment will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Thursday.

Lora was born May 5, 1914 to Robert Henry and Margaret Flo (Mathews) McCann in Scottsbluff Nebraska.

Her parents homesteaded in the Sandhills, where she lived in her very early years. The family then lived in Scottsbluff where she went to school and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. She married Henry Frank Stauffer on April 27, 1936 and to them three children were born, Joan and twins Charles and Constance. Lora and Henry made their home on a Banner County Farm until 1957 when they then moved to the Highland Community near Minatare where they farmed until their retirement.

Lora was an active member of the Wildcat Community Club in Banner County.
Lora enjoyed gardening and her many flowers that she grew. She belonged to the Minatare Garden Club for many years. She was an active past member of the Scottsbluff Rebekah's #290. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Circle. Besides being a devoted wife and mother she took on the role of the local Avon lady and met many lifetime friends. She gave many years to caring for her loved ones and did it very willingly and with love.

She wrote short stories and poems on the history of her family and had several of her poems published. She liked to spend time researching genealogy.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in- law Joan and Glendel Snyder of Kimball, son and daughter-in-law Charles and Marjorie Stauffer of Scottsbluff, and daughter and son-in-law Connie and Roy Krueger of Ray Center, Michigan; sister Retha Miller of Bakersfield, California; 9 grandchildren Raymond & Vicki Snyder, Laurrie and Dennis Cronin; Lawrence and Nicole Snyder; Ronda and Kimon Litrus; Laurinda Stauffer and Frank Gonzales; Allen and Jacque Stauffer; Michael and Kelli Krueger; Stacey Krueger; Diana and Jeff Shewchuk and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Henry and brother Thad McCann.

Florence Lois Violet Warthen
01/18/1927 - 11/9/2004

Florence Lois Violet Warthen, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Heritage Health Care in Gering, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2004, at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 501 Winter Creek Drive in Scottsbluff. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Cremation was a Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.

She was born January 18, 1927 in Sidney, Nebraska to John and Maria (Piester) Green, who immigrated to this country from the Volga German colonies of the Saratov Region of Russia. She was a graduate of Gering High School. On January 15, 1946 she married Robert Eugene Warthen in St. Francis, Kansas. Though divorced in 1973, they were good friends in later life. She was a long-time resident of Minatare. She worked for many years as an L.P.N. in the nursery at the Regional West Medical Center, and assisted in bringing many hundreds of Valley residents into the world.

She loved to fish and garden, loved to cook for other people, and was active in her church.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, her beloved son Matthew Jennings, and sisters Martha Yudzeky and Bonnie (Marie) Burgess and two brothers, William and John Jr, died in childhood.

She is survived by brothers Richard of Scottsbluff and Ronald of Omaha, and a sister, Betty, of Marysville, California; children Robert Lee and wife Barbara, of Salt Lake City; Bonnie Sue Black and husband John, and Thomas Paul and wife Dorothy, all of Scottsbluff; Christina Elaine Kaufman and husband Scott, and Joan Marie Hughey and husband Christopher, all of Minatare; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Dustin Lane
10/03/1955 - 11/7/2004

Dustin Lane, 49, of Scottsbluff, NE passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family after his seven year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2004 at Monument Bible Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Thursday.
Dustin was born October 3, 1955 in Scottsbluff to John and Betty (Henry) Lane. From birth, Dustin has endured many challenges in his lifetime. His struggles began at being prematurely born to suffering life-threatening burns at the age of two. Throughout his childhood, he spent his years braving many surgical procedures.
Dustin was a 1974 graduate of Scottsbluff High School, but spent most of his teenage days in Minatare/Melbeta area. During high school, Dustin’s passions were running, track and getting his first Mustang. Everyone remembers Distin and his golden Mustang cruising the streets of Scottsbluff. He had the great fortune as a teenager to live with Dave and Katrina Nuland whom were his foster parents. During this time with them, he accepted Jesus into his heart.
On September 27, 1986, he married Leah Canell. Soon after, Dustin and Leah moved to Arizona where Dustin was employed as an electrician. He was later given an opportunity to move to Nevada and be part of the Hoover Dam renovation and became a journeyman electrician. From that point, his career took him to many locations across the United States.
In 1991, Dustin and Leah returned to the valley where Dustin began his own construction company. Dustin continued his occupation well into his diagnosis of ALS. Even when physically unable, he was always constructing in his mind developing the next “project”. He was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos and Nebraska Cornhuskers. Dustin was skilled in his trade – anything from building a house to rebuilding an engine. Dustin was the “good Samaritan” and could be counted on for those in need without judgment. Dustin had a special place in his heart for his children – loving to attend his daughters’ softball games – cared for all animals and loved the outdoors.
Dustin is survived by his wife, Leah, of Scottsbluff; their children: Shelby, Kassidy and Keaton; he also survived by his son: Justin Lane of Scottsbluff; daughter: Aubrey (Shaun) Soule of Gering; two sisters: Loni (Dee) Jones of Gillette, WY and Pam Trevino and her daughter Mallory of Scottsbluff; half sister: Roxanne (Marv) Martinez of Gering; father and stepmother: John and Betty Lane of Scottsbluff; mother and stepfather, Dow and Betty Ross of Mesa, AZ and 5 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Esther L. "Bullock" Ogg
05/08/1916 - 11/10/2004

Esther L. “Bullock” Ogg, 88, of Scottsbluff died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Mitchell Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2004 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Marshall Smith officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.

Esther was born May 8, 1916 in Gering Valley to John and Ella Mae (Marquis) Steele. She attended rural schools and graduated from Hope School. She married Chester Bullock May 28, 1933. They farmed in and around the Lake Minatare area for many years. They moved into Scottsbluff where they lived until Chester preceded her in death. Esther married Alfred Ogg. They moved to Lexington where she lived until 1982 when she returned to the Scottsbluff-Gering area.

She was a member of the WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff.

Esther is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie & Lloyd Pierce of Scottsbluff, Shirley and Keith Kephart of Commerce City, CO, Rennie and Raul Esquire of Kingman, AZ, Laura Smith and George Strauss of Scottsbluff and Tammy and Dennis Price of Gering, NE; brother: Mike (Inez) Steele, Morrill, NE; Grandchildren: Jamie (Neal) Person, Columbus, NE, Tim Pierce, Lincoln, NE, Mont (Dolly) Pierce, Tallamadge, OH, Jewel (Don) Schmaltz, Rio Rancho, NM, Jo Pierce & Larry Mullock, Yoder, WY, Terry Pierce, Scottsbluff, NE, Tammy Miller, Gering, NE; Christine Jurgens, Minnesota, Knicoli Kephart, Minnesota, Richelle Kephart, Denver, CO, Scott Stowell, Phoenix, AZ, Lonnie Stowell, Las Vegas, NV, Rena Smith, Mesa, AZ, Kimberly Duwyenie, Peach Springs, AZ, Travis Stowell, Phoenix, AZ, Daneen and Tom Nelson, Lexington, NE, Carrie and Jared Thompson, Bella Vista, ARK, Gary & Amy Smith, Gering, NE, Shirley Jurgens, Terrytown, NE and granddaughter & special companion Sheryl & Eldon Kramer, Gering; numerous Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren and Great Great Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, 9 brothers and sisters, and 4 grandchildren: Mike Jurgens, John Epton, Martin Pierce and Crystal Shriver Nelson.

Edward Gene Roemmich
06/24/1935 - 11/12/2004

Edward Gene Roemmich, 69, of Scottsbluff, passed away Friday November 12, 2004 at his home with his wife Char and eldest son by his side. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 15, 2004 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Dr. Charles L. Bonds officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. .
Ed was born June 24, 1935 in Ong, NE to Herman A. and Matilda M. (Becker) Roemmich. On June 3, 1956 Ed was united in marriage to Anna Louise Hinrichs and to them four children were born. He then moved to Scottsbluff in 1981 where he married Shirley Bennett who later passed away. On December 22, 1997, Ed was united in marriage to Charlene Shipman.
Ed lived his life to the fullest by working hard at various hard labor jobs. He was one who liked to stay busy, never to sit idle. He loved to take care of his home and yard, cut firewood, and work at the local Safeway Store where he had many friends. Many will remember Ed as a kind, giving and loving person who touched everyone he met in some way, as a result he will leave his family, friends and neighbors with a lot of fond memories.
He is survived by his wife: Char, mother: Matilda A. Roemmich of Hastings, NE; Sisters: El Dora Brumlow, Tucson, AZ, Shirley Hoover and husband Frank of Hastings, NE, and Barbara Knutson of Chandler, AZ; Children: Steve and Vickie Roemmich of Geneva, NE, Stan and Helen Roemmich of Kearney, NE, Brenda and Mark Walker of Ogallala, NE and Jeanna and Mike Kuhns of Geneva, NE; Stepson: Bob Bennett of Morrill, NE, seven grandchildren, 1 step grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Herman; brother: Gerald Roemmich and his wife Shirley Bennett

Virginia Lee Thormahlen
03/14/1931 - 11/13/2004

Virginia Lee Thormahlen, 73, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell, NE. Services will be held Wednesday, November 17 at 10:00 am at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff, Tuesday from 9 til 8.
Virginia was born on March 14, 1931 to Sam and Kathryn (Schneider) Kramer in Mitchell, NE. She received her education and graduated high school from Huntley, Wyoming. She attended 2 years of college in Torrington, and 2 years in Laramie, WY where she graduated with honors. She taught school for six years in Powell, WY, and then married Ted Thormahlen on August 18, 1957 in Lyman, NE; they made their home in Mitchell, NE where she taught school for two years, and finally they settled in Scottsbluff, where she taught school for 25 years. She was a member of the Ki-Omega sorority, and she loved to cook, plant her roses, and her garden.

She is survived by her husband Ted Thormahlen, and her mother Kathryn Kramer

Her father Sam Kramer; two children, Kathryn Ellen, and Gail Marie; her grandparents, and many uncles and aunts precede her in death.

Virginia Thormahlen Visitation: Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel
Visitation will be held from 9 til 8, November 16, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.

A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice, Salem Congregational Church, or the Alzheimer’s Assn.

Belle Lieberman

12/07/1941 - 4/12/2004

Belle Lieberman, 87, of Scottsbluff, died Monday April 12, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Rabbi Steven Foster officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Belle was born September 18, 1916 in Denver, CO the daughter of Jake and Rebecca (Lerner) Appel. She was educated in Denver, graduating from North High School in 1934.
She married Abe Lieberman on December 7, 1941 in Denver and moved to Scottsbluff shortly afterward. She lived in Scottsbluff for 63 years.
Belle joined the Order of Eastern Star in 1949 and received her 50 year pin in 1999. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Cross during World War II. When her children were growing up, she participated in school activities and 4-H Club activities. She loved to play bridge.
She is survived by, her husband, Abe, two children Trudy Lieberman of New York City, and David Lieberman of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, her son-in-law Andrew Eiler of New York City, one granddaughter Kirsten Eiler of New York City, and a sister Ruth Strathman of Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by, her sisters Dora Saliman, Sylvia Rubin and a brother Herman Appel.
