David Sueper

BRIGHTON -- David M. Sueper, 41, of Brighton, Colo. died Thursday May 8th at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, Colo. of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Visitation was from 3-8:30 p.m. on Monday with wake services starting at 7 p.m.

The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Northglenn, Colo. There will be a memorial mass in Lindsay at a later date.

David was born icon Dec. 17, 1966, to Richard and Audrey Thiem Sueper in Newman Grove. He was baptized and received his education at Holy Family Church and School in Lindsay, and graduated in 1985. He received an Associate’s degree from Southeast Community College in Milford and was united in marriage to Diane Kurtenbach on April 23, 1988. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from the University of Colorado at Denver.

At the present time, David was employed at LGS Innovations in Westminster, Colo., and was an active volunteer in his parish as well as a member of the Broomfield Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife Diane; a son Nathan; a daughter Hannah; his parents; one brother Joseph (Leila Sueper), of Thornton, Colo.; four sisters, Linda (Daniel) Frauendorfer of Lindsay, Sue (Terry) Beckman of Norfolk, Laurie (Scott) Hunt of Aurora, Joan (Jason) Beardsley of Misawa, Japan; ten nieces and nephews, his father and mother-in-law Vernon and Arlene Kurtenbach of Newman Grove.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Martin and Emma Thiem and Edward and Marjorie Sueper.

James Niedbalski

COLUMBUS -- James F. Niedbalski, 44, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 562 17th Avenue, Columbus with a vigil service at 7 p.m., Monday, May 19,

at McKown Funeral Home Chapel, 2922 13th St., in Columbus. Burial is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m., Monday, May 19, and continues from 8-10 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

James Francis Niedbalski was born icon September 28, 1963, in Columbus, to Floyd P. and Helen L. (Nosal) Niedbalski. James was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs, Nebraska Football and the Minnesota Vikings. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, but held the TV remote with a tight grip. James was a bright spot in his family's life. He always had a smile for everyone and will be missed by all his friends at Morys where he spent the last two years of his too short life.

He is survived by his parents, Floyd and Helen Niedbalski of Columbus; brother, Allen (Tanya) Niedbalski, of Columbus; sister, Joyce (Michael) Smith of Bluffton, S.C.; brothers, Mark (Cindy) Niedbalski of Fremont, and Bob (Peg) Niedbalski of Columbus; nephews, Luke Niedbalski of Loup City, Matt (Shanna) Niedbalski of Columbus, Ross Niedbalski of Lincoln, Greg Niedbalski of Lincoln, Chris Niedbalski of Omaha, Adam Niedbalski of Columbus; nieces, Suzie Niedbalski of Omaha, and Beth Niedbalski of Lincoln.

James was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Barbara Niedbalski and Michael and Barbara Nosal.

Memorials may be directed to St. Anthonys Church or Scotus Central Catholic High School.

Larry Laska

HUMPHREY -- Larry J. Laska, 53, of Humphrey, died at Columbus on May 29, 2008.

Arrangements are pending with Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey.

Joseph Baumert

COLUMBUS -- Joseph Baumert, 78, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, June 15.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1565 18th Avenue, Columbus, with a Vigil at 6 p.m., Wednesday, at McKown Funeral Home Chapel, 2922 13th St., Columbus.

Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, and continues from 8-10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the All Saints Cemetery

Joseph H. Baumert was born icon May 11, 1930, in Howells, to Joseph F. and Theresa (Shanle) Baumert. He received his education at St. Bonaventure High School where he graduated in 1947. Joseph was married to Karla Speckmann on January 23, 1960 in Columbus. He worked at Behlen Manufacturing for forty years in the purchasing department. Joseph also served in the National Guard for twenty-three years until his retirement at the rank of Major. He enjoyed fishing, reading, carpentry, travel, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was active in the Behlen Retirement Club, member of St. Bonaventure Church, Elks Club and the American Legion.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Karla A. Baumert of Columbus; daughter, Debbie (Dan) Braun of Raymore, Mo.; sisters, Evelyn Baumert of Omaha, and Theresa Prichard of Tarzana, Calif.; brothers, Donald Baumert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dennis (Pat) Baumert of Lincoln; grandsons, Andrew and Aaron Braun of Raymore, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are directed to the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.

Charles Willets

COLUMBUS -- Charles “Chuck” Willets, 68, of Columbus, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 25th St., Columbus. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, 2922 13th St., Columbus, and continues from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service.

Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus with Military Honors by the

Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Mary Maneely

COLUMBUS -- Mary Maneely, 83, of Columbus, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Arrangements are pending at Gass Haney Funeral Home.

Joseph Buresh

COLUMBUS -- Joseph A. Buresh, 74, of Columbus, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Interment with military honors by Hartman Post #84, American Legion Honor Guard is at All Saints Cemetery in Columbus.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Church with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation continues 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Joe was born icon Feb. 7, 1934, southwest of Morse Bluff to Joseph J. and Mary A. (Hladky) Buresh. When he was three weeks old his family moved to a farm northeast of North Bend. Joe attended District #10 school and graduated from North Bend High School in 1952. He joined the Nebraska National Guard in 1952 until being discharged in 1961.

On Nov. 15, 1955, Joe was united in marriage to Magdalene Hegemann at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The couple moved to a farm northwest of Rogers, where he farmed until 1991 when they moved to Columbus. Joe worked for Bob Lindhorst at Ebel Inc.

He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, EME and worked with the RCIA program. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council member and the first Grand Knight of the St. Isidore Council #12086. He was also a member of the Hartman Post #84 American Legion and presented roses to new mothers for the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

Joe enjoyed Czech music and organized the Star-Lite Polka Band years ago. He would play his accordion for the enjoyment of Nursing Home residents, Senior Centers and Czech Festivals.

He is survived by wife, Magdalene Buresh of Columbus; brother, Francis (Marge) Buresh of North Bend; sister, Mary Ann Buresh of North Bend; sister-in-law, Agnes Buresh of North Bend; nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded by father, Joseph J. Buresh; mother, Mary A. Buresh; one brother, Rudolph Buresh; and one sister, Agnes Humlicek.

Mary LaBenz

FREMONT-- Mary M. LaBenz, 87, of Fremont, formerly of Columbus, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Maple Crest Care Center in Omaha.

Services are pending at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Libbie Vlach

DODGE -- Libbie Vlach, 83, of Dodge, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Parkview Nursing Home in Dodge where she had been a resident since May of 2005.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. rosary at the church. Visitation continues from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Svoboda Funeral Home of Schuyler is in charge of arrangements.

Janet Waak

COLUMBUS -- Janet Waak, 66, of Columbus, went home to be with her savior, Jesus, on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 at Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Klatt and Thomas Volker officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church with a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m.

Bennie Koziol

COLUMBUS -- Bennie J. Koziol, 78, of Columbus, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Del Lape officiating. Interment is at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus with Military Honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post #84.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation continues 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home.

Bennie was born icon May 26, 1930, in Columbus, to Joseph F. and Clara (Krzycki) Koziol. He attended St. Anthony Elementary School and graduated from Kramer High School. Bennie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for two years spending 17 months in Alaska. He married Arlene Kudron on July 2, 1960, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Bennie worked for Union Pacific Railroad for two years and then worked as a Journeyman Plumber at Columbus Plumbing for 45 years until retiring in 2003.

He enjoyed outdoor activities, bird watching, reading and watching New York Yankees baseball and all football games. Bennie was a member of St. Anthony Church where he served as an usher, parish council two terms, perpetual adoration and was a past Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #3704

He is survived by wife, Arlene Koziol of Columbus; sisters, Marcella Phillips of Gallup, N.M. and Evelyn Bosak of Genoa; and sister-in-law, Kim Koziol of San Diego, Calif.

He is also survived by many brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded by his parents and two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to St. Anthony Church or St. Anthony School.

Harvey Cordsen

COLUMBUS -- Harvey D. Cordsen, 77, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post #84.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 at McKown Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation continues 8-10 a.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home.

Jaunita Froslew

STROMSBURG -- Jaunita Francis Froslew, 82, of Stromsburg, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Midwest Covenant Home Chapel in Stromsburg with Pastor Duane Tweeten officiating. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery

Visitation will be prior to the service.

Dubas Funeral Home of Stromsburg and Osceola is in charge of arrangements.

Lowene Jackson

COLUMBUS -- Lowene Marie Jackson (Hall), age 91, of Columbus, passed away surrounded by her beloved family at Columbus Community Hospital Sept. 2, 2008.

Lowene was born icon March 6, 1917, in Humphrey, Neb. to Roy and Louisa Hall. She attended St. Francis High School and graduated from Norfolk Business College. After graduating she went to work as a bookkeeper for Jackson Dry Cleaners and Launderers, where she met her husband Lee C. Jackson. They were married Oct. 8, 1937. Lowene was a talented musician, playing the piano and organ entertaining diners at popular Columbus restaurants. She will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humor, wit and wisdom, love of nature, living at the lake, and most of all for her great interest in the lives of her loved ones.

Lowene is survived by her children, Judith Ann Jackson (Ken Schmitz) of Cottage Grove, Minn.; Connie Lowene Lambert (Philip) of Maplewood, Minn.; and Jay James Jackson (Kathy Marie) of Columbus; 13 grandchildren, Vicki Marie Maca, Torri (Dwayne) Obermiller, Terri (Kirk) Hanna, Tom (Lori) Jackson, Lindy Fury, Bradley (Julie) Grubaugh, Michael (Laura) Modrow, Macie (Andy) Yates, Mollie (Joshua) Saunders, Jesse (Wendy) Jackson, Nikki Jackson, Jason (Kelly) Jackson, Justin Jackson and 17 great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Lee, son, Terry and sister, Edith Nichols.

We will celebrate Lowene’s life with a funeral mass at St. Isidore’s Church Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Columbus Cemetery.

Visitation at McKown Funeral Home 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at St. Isidore Church.

The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Meridian Gardens, the nursing staff at Columbus Community Hospital, Fr. Joe Miksch and especially Dr. Dale Zaruba who treated her with such compassion and dignity.
