Ivan Forsman

Ivan Forsman, 89, of Aurora, died Friday evening, July 23, 1999 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services were Monday, July 26 at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. Barry McCormick officiated. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Allene of Aurora; two sons, Dr. Richard (Judy) Forsman of Omaha and Kent Forsman of Aurora; one daughter, Dr. Patricia (Dr. Paul) Bunger of Yankton, S.D.; six grandchildren and a special nephew, Wilton Forsman.

Nina L. Wolfe

Nina L. Wolfe, 84, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center in Grand Island.

Services were Friday, July 23 at First Christian Church with Rev. Richard M. Bacon officiating. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary L. Williams of Columbus; two grandchildren, a great-grandchild, one brother, Vernon Wolfe of Aurora and three sisters, Ester Wolfe, Dorothy Wach and Wilma Nuss, all of Aurora.

Tammy Hinrichs

Tammy Hinrichs, 28, of Hastings, died Saturday, July 24, 1999 in a combine accident.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 29 at Butler-Volland Funeral Home Chapel in Hastings. Pastor Shari Duminy officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemeter at Trumbull.

Survivors include her husband, Lyndell and sons Michael and Nicholas; her mother, Mary Ellen Behrends of Hastings; her stepfather, Gary Behrends of giltner; her father, Lonnie Miller of Hansen; two sisters, Shelly Hurt and Denna Behrends, both of Hastings; a grandmother, Winona Miller of Longbranch, Wash.

Reuben Hanquist

Reuben Hanquist, 99, of Aurora, died Sunday night, July 18, 1999 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. in Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. Barry McCormick officiated. Burial was in Lindell Cemetery near Hordville. Survivors include his three sons, Miland (Marlene) Hanquist of Lincoln, Arlyn (Donna) Hanquist of Hugoton, Kan. and Stanley (Judith) Hanquist of Springfield; one daughter, Dorothy (Lester) Claussen of Cairo; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Christopher Anderson

Christopher Edwin Anderson, 16, of DeKalb, Ill., died Sunday, July 18, 1999 after an automobile accident.

Services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in DeKalb. Rev. Robert Krogman and Rev. James Jensen officiated. Inurnment was at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include his parents, David and Ellen Anderson of DeKalb; one sister, Lindsey Anderson; his grandparents, Dale and Naomi Anderson of Central City, Sallie H. Eckert of Waterford, Mich. and Lucy Eckert of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; aunts and uncles, Douglas and Patricia Anderson of Aurora, Roger and Sharon Brandes of Central City, Steve and Susan Eckert of Hudsonville, Mich., Phil and Loretta Eckert of Elk Grove Village, Ill. and Jackie Eckert of Plainwell, Mich.; 13 cousins and many close friends in DeKalb, Sycamore and Elburn, Ill.

Gladys Lavonne Scott

Gladys Lavonne Scott, 79, of Arcadia died Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Gladys Lavonne was born icon September 16, 1924 on the small Parker family farm, just northeast of Arcadia to Chester "Chet" and Mary (Evans) Parker. She received her education in the Arcadia Schools.

When she was fourteen, her parents parted ways and she took over the mothering duties of her five brothers and sisters, along with helping her father on the farm.

On May 25, 1940, Gladys married William G. "Bill" Scott of Ansley. The couple lived around the Arcadia area until the spring of 1941 when they moved to Delano, California. Bill worked on a grape ranch and Gladys worked in the grape packing plant.

In 1948, the couple moved back to Arcadia and rented a farm from Arthur Easterbrook for one year. Following that, they moved north of Westerville and farmed for one year. In 1950, they moved west of Arcadia, farming the Stevens place. In 1955, they moved into the south part of Arcadia. Along with Bill's brother, Jack, they owned and operated the Scott Brothers Skelly Service Station from 1955 - 1961.

They purchased a ranch 11 miles south of Mason City, residing there for a year before selling the ranch to move back to Arcadia where Bill helped farm the Parker home place after Gladys' father, Chet, had a stroke. At that time, they also did custom work and had a commercial trucking business.

In 1964, they rented the Parker family farm and purchased the farm in 1965, following the passing of Gladys' father. They worked very hard to make it a productive farm. They also did custom work and fed out cattle.

In 1970, they moved to the present home acreage on the east edge of Arcadia where they resided and continued to farm the Parker farm.

On April 20, 1974, a tornado destroyed most of the buildings on the Parker place, including the farmhouse in which Gladys was born. Bill was injured in 1974. Following his recovery, the Loren Gabriel farm, west of Arcadia was purchased in 1978. They continued farming this ground, along with the Parker place, with the help of their son, Duane.

In March of 1982, Bill passed away. Gladys and Duane continued farming until Duane purchased the farm from his mother in 1983.

Gladys remained living in Arcadia and, for the past two years, she has resided in a nursing home.

She enjoyed traveling, visiting, TV, napping, crocheting, handiwork, crosswords, and circle words. She especially enjoyed her children and their families.

She was a lifelong member of the Rebekah Lodge 74.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sheryl of Ord, Duane and JoAnn of Arcadia and Danny and Mary Jo of Arcadia; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Steven Scott and Tilynn Scott, both of Grand Island; Shelly and Kevin Keene and daughter, Katelyn of Holdrege, Shannon and Chuck Herman and daughter, Chloe and son, Shay, of Broken Bow, Sheila Scott of Kansas, Shane Scott of Arcadia, Dustin, Danielle and Devin Scott, all of Arcadia; one brother, Gene Parker of Rock Springs, Wyoming; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Bill Gibson of Monte Vista, Colorado, Marilyn and Fred Lewandowski of Ansley, Connie and Lyle Steward of Broken Bow, Nancy and Cork Einsphar of Arcadia, Norma and Charlie Reichstein of Cowles, Vicki and Larry Hanks of Amherst and Mary Lou Peterson of Broken Bow; one step-brother, Larry Pierson and his wife, Audrey, of California; brother-in-law Jack Scott and wife, LaVera of Westerville and brother-in-law Dennis Heikel of Farwell; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and two brothers, Robert and Don Parker.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Arcadia United Methodist Church with the Reverends Janet Burgel and Chuck Myers officiating.

Burial was in the Arcadia City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gathering Place or the Arcadia Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Tinkham

Raymond Tinkham, 81, of Broken Bow, Neb., formerly of Sargent, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.

Raymond Tinkham was born icon August 24, 1921 at Ruskin to Ray and Grace Tinkham. The family lived in Helvey, northwest of Fairbury. In 1934, they moved to Sargent, where Raymond graduated from Sargent Public High School in 1938.

His 21st birthday was celebrated in 1942 with a draft notice to the U. S. Army.

While at home on leave, he married Bernice Callies on Nov. 16, 1943 and then returned to active service with the 30th Infantry, Second Armored Division.

On June 6, 1944, Raymond entered the European Theater of combat at Omaha Beach, Normandy. Raymond, part of an antiaircraft gun crew, fought at Omaha Beach, St. Lo, Ryne River, the Battle of the Bulge, the Ardennes Forest, and in many other engagements throughout World War II.

Raymond was discharged on Nov. 9, 1945, at which time he returned to the farm northeast of Sargent.

Raymond and Bernice raised four sons while operating the diversified farming/ranching operation, always with a soft spot for cattle of the Hereford breed.

Raymond was active in civil affairs, serving for many years on the Corner Precinct Board. He also served for 23 years on the Sargent Public Schools Board of Education, many of those as president.

For a period of time, he also served as a substitute rural route mail carrier.

Raymond loved to hunt and fish, play cards, and join in family and community gatherings. He followed all the activities in which his sons, and later, his grandchildren, participated. He was always ready and willing to help a neighbor in need.

One of Raymond's greatest strengths was his ability to converse with nearly anyone, in almost any situation.

Due to health problems, Raymond left the family home in 1993 and lived most of his remaining years in Broken Bow, with a short year spent in Ord. He was living at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow at the time of his death.

Raymond is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Jeanne Tinkham of Ord, Gary and Rose Tinkham of Fort Calhoun, Bruce and Karen Tinkham of Superior and Scott and Cindy Tinkham of Broken Bow; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Evelyn Tinkham of Sargent and Lawrence and Nancy Tinkham of Imperial; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Ali, Matt, Brent, Scotti, Kassie, Sarah, Jacob, Kathleen, Kellie and Kori; a great-grandchild, Peyton; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice.

Services were held August 2, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Sargent, with the Rev. Vonnie Phillips officiating.

Pallbearers were Ali Tinkham, Brian Tinkham, Kassie Swanson, Matt Tinkham, Brent Tinkham, and Scotti Jo Tinkham.

Honorary Pallbearers were Sarah Tinkham, Kellie Tinkham, Korina Tinkham, Jacob Tinkham, Peyton Bobzien, and Kathleen Tinkham.

Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Sargent, with graveside military rites.

Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent was in charge of arrangements.

Melba G. Ray

Melba G. Ray, age 86, of Broken Bow, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.

Melba G. Ray was born icon October 3, 1916 to Ira L. and Alice (Rhinheimer) Elliott at McCook, Neb. At a young age, Melba moved with her family to Mullen. Melba attended school and graduated from Mullen High School in 1934.

On April 29, 1936, Melba was married to Joe Ray at Hyannis. The couple made their home in the Mullen area. Melba and Joe lived in several different towns and states while Joe worked for the Peter Kiewit Construction Co.

In 1943, Melba and Joe moved to Broken Bow. Melba worked at the City Cafe in Broken Bow for more than 20 years, retiring in 1986.

Joe died in 1992. Melba continued to live in her own home until November 2002 when she went into the hospital and, later, the nursing home.

Melba was a member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church.

Melba is survived by her daughter, Joan Kennedy of Broken Bow; two grandchildren, Denise Allen of Omaha and David Allen and his wife, Jolene, of Panama, Neb.; and two great-grandchildren, Becky and Cody Allen of Panama, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, John and Duane; two sisters and one brother.

Private graveside services were held July 31 at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow with Rev. Sherry Sklenar officiating. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, Heritage Hall Nursing Home or the Jennie Melham Medical Center.

Govier Brothers Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Elwood Geheart Olsen

Elwood Geheart Olsen, age 77, of Creswell, Ore., died August 1, 2003 in Creswell.

Eugene Geheart Olsen was born icon March 7, 1926 in Round Valley, Neb. to Arnet and Bernice (Pitkin) Olsen.

He served in the Navy from March 1944 to May 1946, spending time in the Pacific during World War II.

On September 17, 1945, Eugene married Bonnie Jean Hubert in Seattle, Wash. To this union were born icon four children.

Eugene and Bonnie had lived in Creswell since 1960. He was a millworker at Rosebord Lumber Co. in Springfield.

Eugene enjoyed working with wood and horseshoes. For the past 45 years, he has been a member of Arts and Crafts in Cottage Grove, Ore.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Mary DeShazer of Eugene, Ore., David Olsen of Harrisburg, Ore., Linda Henderson of Creswell, and Rick Olsen of Eugene; parents, Arnet and Bernice Olsen of Silverton, Ore.; sisters, Erma Jensen of Springfield, Oregon and Marvel Jackson of Silverton, Ore.; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Springfield Funeral Home. Burial was in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to Springfield McKenzie-Willameth Hospice.

Springfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
