Hubert L. Hutt

Hubert L. Hutt, age 81, of Broken Bow died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow.

Hubert was born icon December 19, 1921 to George Edward and Maude Mae (Whipple) Hutt near Anselmo. After graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1940, he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. In 1941, Hubert enlisted in the Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Hubert received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska in 1948 and completed his Master of Arts degree from Colorado State College, Greeley, Colo., in 1954. He then taught chemistry and physics at the high school and college levels in McCook, Neb.

In 1969, Hubert returned to his hometown of Broken Bow as owner and manager of the Arrow Hotel and taught science and mathematics at Callaway junior and senior high schools. In addition to his teaching and business careers, he farmed in the McCook and Broken Bow areas.

In 1946, Hubert was united in marriage to Neva Nissen of Oxford, Neb. To this union, five children were born. The couple later divorced. Hubert married Lois Dickey Helzer of Douglas, Wyo. in 1977.

Hubert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Broken Bow. He also belonged to the Elks Club in McCook.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Broken Bow; son and daughter-in-law, Corbin and Christy of Palmyra, Neb.; daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Rod Armstrong of Lincoln, Neb., Karen Hutt and Steve Tiwald of Naperville, Ill.; Jennifer and Tom Tuma of Stillwater Minne., and Susan and Gregg Trupp of Overland Park, Kan.; stepsons, Curt Helzer of Cheyenne, Wyo., Kerry Helzer of Big Piney, Wyo., stepdaughter and husband, Chris and John Bookless of Big Piney, Wyo.; eleven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Funeral services were held August 4, 2003 at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Reverend Kathleen LaRocque officiating. Interment was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers were Ben Armstrong, Nathan Hutt-Tiwald, Adam Sauter, Bryce Anderson, Ron Kallhoff and Brian Lauby.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow.

Govier Brothers Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Mills

Mary Elizabeth Mills, age 77, of Arnold passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow, Neb.

Mary was born icon October 18, 1925 to John and Anne Marie Lehmkuhler at the family home west of Arnold. She lived in and around Arnold all of her life. After graduation from Arnold High School in 1944, she began teaching at the rural school in Mills Valley.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

On October 23, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Lowell Mills. To this union, three sons were born. Lowell and Mary made their home on the family farm in Mills Valley until moving to town in 1972. In the spring of 2001, they moved to Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow, Neb.

Mary is survived by her husband, Lowell; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Margaret, Don and Barbara, and Lester and Sue, all of Arnold; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Les Vogel of Arnold; a sister-in-law, Bernelda Lehmkuhler of Arnold; grandchildren, Shanna and her husband, Chris Marshall of Gothenburg, Dustin and his wife, Becky Strasburg, Darci Barnes, Nathan Mills, Elizabeth and her husband, Wayne Bierman, Kellie Mills, Sarah Mills, Jamie Mills, George Mills, all of Arnold; Nicole Koubek of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lana and Tom Valasek of Blair, Neb., Nancy Mills of Pueblo, Colo., and Gretchen Mills of Arnold; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Henry.

Services were held Friday, August 1, 2003 at the Arnold United Methodist Church, with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial was in the Arnold cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Arnold School Foundation or the donor's choice.

Pallbearers were Larry, Mike and Dwaine Lehmkuhler, Leon Vogel, Floyd Ondrak and Roger Seda. Musicians were Samantha Peterson and Mary Beshaler.

Arnold Funeral Home of Arnold was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes "Elaine" Davis

Agnes "Elaine" Davis, 69, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at her home in Douglas, Wyoming, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Elaine was born icon September 12, 1934 in Oconto, Nebraska, the daughter of Don and Loretta (Bollinger) Beck. She was reared and educated in Oconto, where she graduated from Oconto High School as Salutatorian.

On October 24, 1953, she was married to Gerald E. Davis in Omaha, Nebraska.

After the couple moved to Douglas, Elaine was a Librarian Assistant at Douglas High School and later, a bookkeeper at Converse County School District #1, until she retired in 1991.

Elaine loved spending time with her family, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and traveling. She also enjoyed all kinds of crafts, but quilting was her passion.

She was an active member of Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas.

In July 2003, she celebrated 50 years of marriage to her husband, Jerry Davis.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Jerry, of Douglas; four children, Dan and Renee Davis of Douglas, Debra and Kevin Mau of Baltimore, Maryland, Tina and Bruce Fields of Casper, Wyoming, and Cindy and Randy Sober of Douglas, Wyoming; two sisters, Karen Klebe of Fremont, Nebraska and Gay Stauffer of Kearney, Nebraska; two brothers, Duane Beck of Oconto and Jim Beck of Greeley, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother, George Beck; and one precious infant son.

Funeral Liturgy was held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas, Wyoming with Father Clifford Jacobson as Celebrant.

Serving as pallbearers were George Oveka, Jim Hinton, Jerry Sober, Ron Plumb, Don Smylie and Millard Meredith.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Adam Davis, Jon Mau, Bryan Fields, Eric Fields and Levi Sober.

A memorial to Saint James Catholic Church, P. O. Box 1500, Douglas Wyoming, 82633, would be appreciated by the family.

Gorman Funeral Home - Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.

Neil F. Hirsch

Neil F. Hirsch, 58, of Laramie, died Monday, September 22, 2003 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

Neil was born icon April 9, 1945 in Callaway, Nebraska, a son to Lagene and Elleanor (Foster) Hirsch. He attended public schools in South Dakota and Nebraska, graduating from Callaway High School. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science.

Neil was married to Margaret Ellen Harvey in December of 1968 in Kansas, where they were living at the time. They had a daughter, Heather Elizabeth Hirsch, and were later divorced.

Mr. Hirsch lived in various locations during his life, including Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota and Laramie, Wyoming, where he has resided since 1986. While in Laramie, Mr. Hirsch married Joanne Atkinson Johnson on September 6, 1997 at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Ralph Rohr married the couple.

Neil was presently employed with Burgener Trucking and had established the Western Rodeo Network, some 20+ years ago, as his personal enjoyment, as well as auctioneering and playing the harmonica.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Hirsch of Laramie; mother, Elleanor Hirsch of Callaway, Nebraska; daughter, Heather Elizabeth Hirsch of Dallas, Texas; step-children, Les Klein of Grand Junction, Colorado and John Klein and Kathy Burns of Laramie; two sisters, Diane Musfeldt of Arlington, Texas and Julie Freburg of Holdrege, Nebraska; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service were conducted September 25, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ralph Rohr officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Neil's name and sent to Joanne Hirsch, 1924 Custer, Laramie, WY 82070.

Services were under the direction of the Rocky Mountain Funeral Home.

Dean Cave, 91, Oconto, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Callaway District Hospital.

Arden Chamberlin

Arden H. Chamberlin, 87, of Kearney and formerly of Mason City, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.

Morris Farritor

Morris Bernard Farritor, 90, Broken Bow, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City.

Howard G. Runyan

Howard G. Runyan, age 86, of Broken Bow died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.

Mr. Runyan was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.

Douglas Granger

Douglas E. Granger, son of Charles and Eileen Smith Granger was born icon at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance Feb. 15, 1943, and passed away at Florida Hospital in Lake Placid, Fla., March 27, 2003.

Irene Moravec

Irene Moravec, 88, of Sargent, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Sargent.

Eldon Sebesta

Eldon Edward Sebesta, 70, Sargent, formerly of Ord, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.

Emily Williams

Emily Lou Williams, 63, was born icon May 18, 1939, at home in Dunning to William and Evelyn (Schlund) Fetherston and died April 5, 2003, at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett.

Ellis Bohy

Ellis N. Bohy, 98, Taylor, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Inez "Bernita" Dramse

Inez "Bernita" Dramse, age 85, of Broken Bow, formerly of Hay Springs, NE died June 7, 2003 at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

D. Ferne Eacker Piercy Wilkinson of Colorado Springs, Colo. passed away on June 13, 2003 at Laurel Manor Care Home in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Mildred J. "Millie" (Rice) Yamamoto, age 73, of Lincoln, formerly of Broken Bow, died June 12, 2003.
