Allan Lende Gray
Allan Lende Gray, of Holdrege (formerly of Orleans), passed away Mar. 29, 2004, at the Holdrege Memorial Home in Holdrege. On Dec. 7, 2003, Allan celebrated his 98th birthday with his four daughters, a phone call from his son, eating ice cream cake and thanking everyone for a wonderful birthday. Funeral services for Allan L. Gray will be conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Orleans April 1, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor William Bills and Chaplain Jean Clayton, officiating. Interment will be in the Orleans Cemetery. Allan was born
Dec. 7, 1905, in his grandmother's home in Cottonwood, Minn., the only child of Walter and Mina (Lende) Gray. Until the age of 14, he was the lone offspring of his 14 aunts and uncles. He spent his boyhood in Minnesota, enjoying fishing, hunting and exploring the banks of the Mississippi River.
He attended St. Olaf's College in Faribault, Minn., where he earned a bachelors degree in arts and sciences in 1927. He was awarded a masters degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., in 1945.
Allan's first teaching job was in Orleans, where he rented a room in the Orleans Hotel for several years until he had saved enough money to marry Mildred Eleanor Craven, a beautiful elementary school teacher from Orleans. They were married July 1, 1937.
The had five children: Gary Gray of Trenton Texas; Judy Hanneman of Slidell, La., Gwen Dixon of Longmont, Colo., Jane Gray Smith of Boulder. Colo., and Susan Gray of Phillipsburg, Kan.; 14 grandchildren (Julie, Amilu, Logan, Tyler, Spencer and Jesse Jane; Tom, Tiffany and Jeffrey; Trayce, Elissa and Tyler; Laramie, Rexana and Nevada) will all miss him. To date, there are also fourteen great-grandchildren.
Allan began and ended his teaching career in Orleans. He was gone for 10 years to teach in Gothenburg and Anselmo. For most of his career, he also held the administrative position of superintendent. However, his greatast joy was working with high school students as he taught chemistry and math.
After 41 years of teaching, he and Mildred (a third grade teacher for 27 years) retired in May of 1970. He loved living in Orleans where he enjoyed hunting with his birddogs, fishing on the Republican River, working in his vegetable garden and also being a devoted and faithful member of the Orleans Presbyterian Church.
He lost his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Mildred, Apri1 28, 1997, to Alzheimer's Disease. For the past eight years, he has resided in the Holdrege Memorial Home where he has received wonderful attention from the caregivers who work there. He loved his room with the big window that looked out into the street, he loved his recliner, he loved cats, he loved to sing and he loved to tell anyone who would listen about his children.
He was greatly loved and will be missed very much by his family.
A memorial has been established in his memory.

Dennis Hopkins
Dennis Hopkins, 55, of Ravenna, died Mar. 26, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. A memorial service will be April 1, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate.
Dennis was born
Aug. 14, 1948, in Pendleton, Ore., to Clifford and Lorraine (Geist) Rayno. He was adopted at the age of eight by his stepfather Dale Hopkins.
Survivors of the immediate family include wife; Sherry of Ravenna; one son and daughter-in-law, Tech. Sgt. Scott and Lisa Hopkins of Wichita Falls, Texas, one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Scott Pierce of Grand Island; four grandsons, Airman First Class Brian "Joe" Hopkins of Keesler AFB, MS, Austin and Colton Hopkins and Brandon Pierce; his dog Abby; and one brother Clinton Hopkins. Dennis graduated from Doniphan High School in 1966 and later attended UNK for two years.
He married Sherry Shultz July 15, 1967, in Grand Island. They lived in New Mexico before returning to Ravenna in 1979. Dennis was employed at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island for two years. He then went into sales for Ulry-Talbert & the Thompson Company grocery wholesales. He later worked for General Tobacco and Candy as a salesman until 1993 when he retired due to ill health.
Dennis was a devoted husband and proud father to his loving children. He enjoyed being a member of the Nebraska Rod and Custom Association of which he was an avid Hot Rod enthusiast. He will be remembered for his humor, his love of Nebraska Football and his willingness to help someone in need.
Preceded in death by father, mother and stepfather.

Elinor Evelyn Kleeb
Elinor Evelyn Kleeb was born
Feb. 24, 1915 near Broken Bow to John and Grace (Leck) Kleeb and died May 22, 2004.
She attended rural school through eighth grade and two years at a local high school, then worked as a maid in homes in Lincoln, Omaha and Nebraska City.
In September of 1928, she made her choice to serve God and entered His ministry in April of 1939. Except for a few years spent caring for her aged mother, her entire life was dedicated to this work of loving and serving. She worked in Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado.
As her health began to fail, Elinor traveled less, staying in various homes around Grand Junction, Colo., and finally coming to Seven Oaks Adult Care near Holton, Kas. on May 14, 2001. She was cared for as family by the Reiffs and their staff for just over three years.
Her parents and a brother, Alvin, preceded her in death. She is survived by brothers, Leslie of Bentonville, Ark., and Norman and wife Karolyn of O'Neill, three nephew and five nieces.
Services were held May 26 at the Broken Bow Municipal Auditorium, with Ronald Thomke, Lorraine Lerwick, Charles Middleswarth and Stanley Morrison officiating.
Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Gary L. Krantz
Gary L. Krantz, 64, of Durant, Okla. was born
July 25, 1939 in Westerville and died May 15, 2004 at his home in Durant, Okla.
He is survived by five children, Gary Joe Krantz of Durant, Okla., and Ricky Dale Krantz, Marty Allen Krantz, Vonny Jean DeBruin and Tammy Sue Bannowsky, all of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Penny Potter of Aurora; parents-in-law, Bud and Rita Hargrove of Kaufman, Texas; stepsons, Christopher and Jeffrey Brown of Emory, Texas; one sister-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack, and his parents, Harry Lee and Mary Krantz.
Funeral services were held May 22 at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Sherry Sklenar officiating. Burial was in the Westerville Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Trace Ritchie
Trace Ritchie, infant son of Tim and Tiffany (Stec) Ritchie died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Children's Hospital in Omaha.
Trace was born
May 13, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Survivors include his parents of Kearney; sister, Tasha at home; paternal grandparents, Connie and Dave Stunkel of Broken Bow and Glenn Ritchie of Berwyn; maternal grandparents, Paul and Deb Stec of Kearney; paternal great-grandparents, Thelma and Melvin Burnett of Broken Bow, Doc and Wanda Ritchie of Merna and Vera Stunkel of Ansley; maternal great-grandparents, Delores Stec of Ainsworth and Ken and Dolores Heuer of Ainsworth.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Heer and maternal great-grandfather, Joseph Stec.
Mass of Christian Burial was held May 26, 2004, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Mike McDonald officiating. Interment will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Rosa G. Rumsey
Rosa G. Rumsey, 94, of Seward, formerly of Fullerton, died May 22, 2004 in Seward.
Rosa was born
June 17, 1909 in Halsey to Nicholas J. and Mary (Grable) Wirz.
She was a member of the Fullerton United Methodist Church and attended Seward United Methodist Church.
She was a charter member of United Methodist Women and Circle Eve Member O.E.S. Chapter #191, P.E.O. Chapter AG, Fullerton Women's Club, Fullerton American Legion Auxiliary #151, VTW Auxiliary #5759, and a former board member of Fullerton Area Senior Center.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Dayle L. Rumsey; parents, Nicholas J. and Mary Wirz; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Clara and Ruth Wirz, Robert A. Wirz, Theodore and Phyllis Wirz; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida and Hal Anderson and Elsie and Karl Lucy.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Greg Zabka of Seward; granddaughter and fiancé, Melissa Zabka and Jeff Luebbe of Seward; granddaughter, Monica Zabka of Seward; sister-in-law, Marie Wirz of Broken Bow; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thayne and Helen Rumsey of West Bountiful, Utah; nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Services were held May 26, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Fullerton, with the Rev. Eric Ford officiating.
Burial was in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Fullerton United Methodist Church or the donor's choice, in care of the family.
