Norma Andersen

The funeral for Norma L. Andersen, 91, of Fremont, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Fremont.

She died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at Fremont Care Center.

Norma Holtman was born icon Feb. 9, 1908, in rural Arlington. She grew up in rural Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School. She attended Wayne State College in Wayne and Dana College in Blair. She was a graduate of Colorado State College in Greeley, Colo. She married Kenneth Larson May 20, 1933, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He died Feb. 20, 1947. She taught at the Bisbee School in Washington County and then taught at Akron, Colo. from 1937-52 and at Blair beginning in 1953 until her retirement. She married Andrew C. Andersen May 26, 1956, in Clinton, Iowa. He died Nov. 23, 1975. She moved to Fremont in 1976 and lived at the Pathfinder House a year before moving to Fremont Care Center in June 1999.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont and a former member of Retired Teachers Association of Fremont. She was also formerly active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Survivors include: a daughter, Gwen (Mrs. Richard) Masters of Fremont; two sisters, Leona Vahsholz and Viola Hartman, both of Stanton; four sisters-in-law, Margie Holtman of Sioux Falls, S.D., Helen Skov of Blair, Lelah Dole of Washougal, Wash., and Leona Holtman of Stanton; three grandchildren, Patrick (and wife, Rita) Masters, Kent (and wife, Amelia) Masters, and Thomas Masters; four great-grandchildren, Natasha and Brian Masters and Jennifer and Melissa Dunlap; six stepgrandchildren, Linda (Mrs. Ron) Madsen, Arlene (Mrs. Mike) Casey, Jim Erickson, Jeanne (Mrs. Bart) Fleck, Derald (and wife, Cheryl) Erickson, and Donna (Mrs. George) Blankenship.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma (Lallman) Holtman; two husbands; two brothers, Ervin and Lester Holtman; and a sister, Irene Ross.

The Revs. Mark Grorud and Norman Freund will officiate Thursday’s service. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial is in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Fontanelle.

Memorials have been established to First Lutheran Church or Fremont Area Medical Center Foundation.

Richard Bowman

Richard E. Bowman, 87, of Alliance, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, in Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.

He was born icon Jan. 30, 1912, in Uehling. He attended high school in Fremont. His family moved to the Berea area in 1929 and then to Alliance in 1939. He married Olga G. Leu Jan. 28, 1942, in Alliance. She survives.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors also include: three daughters, Pam (Mrs. Bill) Miller of Alliance, Susan (Mrs. Rockie) Smith of Martin, S.D., and Ginger (Mrs. Jerry) Rucker of St. Paul, Minn.; a son, Marvin (Mrs. Tammy) Bowman of Lusby, Md.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a grandson.

The funeral service was Aug. 21 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance. The Revs. Martin T. Schnare and Richard C. Mueller officiated. Burial was in Alliance Cemetery.

Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance was in charge of arrangements.

Bessie Fencl

WAHOO — Bessie E. Fencl, 91, of Wahoo, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo.

Bessie Rezac was born icon Sept. 13, 1907, in Weston. She attended elementary and high school in Weston.

Before her retirement in 1977, Bessie worked as a cook at the former City Cafe and the former Fairview Cafe, both in Wahoo.

Survivors include: three sons, Robert (and wife, Mary) Laudenback of Wahoo, Lawrence “Bud” Laudenback and Gerry Laudenback, both of Victorville, Calif.; a brother, Ernest Rezac of Lincoln; a sister, Lillian Rezac of Wahoo; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, two husbands, three brothers and a sister.

Burial of cremated remains will be in Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo at a later time.

Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo is in charge of arrangements.

Emma Dean

ARLINGTON — The funeral for Emma M. Dean, 92, of Arlington, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.

She died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Emma Leu was born icon Dec. 13, 1906, in rural Norfolk. She grew up on a farm near Norfolk and lived there until 1936 when she moved to a farm near Blair. She then moved to a farm near Arlington in 1942 and later moved to Arlington. She had resided at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since November 1998. She married George Dean April 6, 1974, in Blair. He died May 2, 1998. She had been an Avon representative for many years before retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.

Survivors include: two daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Ernie) Armendariz of Tulsa, Okla., and Sharon Schlueter of Watertown; a stepson, Gary (and wife, Barb) Dean of Fremont; a stepdaughter, Marsha (Mrs. Bill) Schwartzer of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Joan Schlueter of Arlington; nine grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by husbands, Harold Schlueter and Wallace Widener, a son, three brothers and two sisters.

The Rev. John W. Emslie, Jr. will officiate Friday’s service. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Thursday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial is in Prairie View Cemetery near Washington.

Memorials have been established to Trinity Lutheran Church or Bethesda Home at Watertown, Wis.

Jean Kassebaum

WEST POINT — Jean A. (Feyerherm) Kassebaum, 54, of West Point, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at her home.

She was born icon July 20, 1945, in West Point. She graduated from West Point Central Catholic High School. She was employed at the Flowers & Frills Business and the bank in Scribner. She married Gary Kassebaum Oct. 22, 1944, in Fremont.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point and was the Road Gems Car Club Secretary.

Survivors include: her husband; her parents, Leo and Lenore Feyerherm of West Point; two brothers, Rick Feyerherm and Larry Feyerherm, both of West Point; a daughter, Sandy (Mrs. Tom) Keck of Omaha; two stepdaughters, Tammy Jessen and Samantha Jessen, both of Fremont; two stepsons, Gary Kassebaum, Jr. of Fremont, and Josh Kassebaum of Lincoln; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. The Rev. James Ryberg will officiate.

Public visitation is noon to 8:30 tonight at Ben-Stalp Funeral Home in West Point. A public rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Burial is in St. Michael’s Cemetery in West Point.

Pearl Lank

Pearl I. Lank, 89, of Fremont, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Pearl Penn was born icon Oct. 3, 1909, in Hydro, Okla. She was raised in Dexter, Iowa, and graduated from Dexter High School.

She attended Earlham Junior College and then Drake University for a total of three years. She taught grade school for 25 years at Dexter, Menlo, Anita and Wiota, Iowa. She married Edward Lank July 14, 1933, in Omaha. She lived in Atlantic, Iowa, for 18 years before moving to Fremont in 1990.

She was a member of Atlantic United Methodist Church in Atlantic, National Teachers Association and a life member of the Iowa Education Association.

Survivors include: a son, Dean Lank of Fremont; a daughter, Donna Jean Lank of Fremont; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband May 5, 1990, and three sisters.

The memorial service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. The Rev. Charles Downing will officiate. There is no visitation. Burial is in Atlantic Cemetery.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Halverson

VALLEY — Irene Halverson, 89, of Valley died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley.

Services are pending at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Valley.

Audrey Hansen

Audrey L. Hansen, 86, of Fremont, formerly of Uehling, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church, UCC, in Uehling. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Friday at Palmquist Funeral Home in Oakland, and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Michael Newcomer

Michael E. Newcomer, 42, of Fremont, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Services are pending at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Delores Carlson

The funeral for Delores A. Carlson, 65, of Fremont will be 10 a.m. Monday at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Fremont.

She died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Delores Lowther was born icon Sept. 11, 1934, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She attended Fremont Public Schools. She married Glenn Carlson Sept. 10, 1955, in Fremont. He died in 1994.

Survivors include: three daughters Jeanine (Mrs. Dan) Dishong, Glenda (Mrs. Sky) Schenck, all of Fremont and Amber (Mrs. Chris) Young of Florida; two sons, Teace (and wife, Elita) Carlson and Kyle (and wife, Deborah) Carlson, all of Florida; a sister, Elaine (Mrs. John) Lueschen of Fremont; four brothers, George (and wife, Violet) Lowther of Fremont, Gene (and wife, Donna) Lowther of Ames, Don (and wife, Linda) Lowther of Columbus and William (and wife, Betty) Lowther of Fremont; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and a sister.

The Rev. Robert Kocher will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to Dodge County Humane Society.

Erwin Clatanoff

WEST POINT — Erwin E. H. Clatanoff, 89, of West Point, formerly of Howells, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.

Services are pending at Kuzelka Funeral Home in Wisner.

Shirley Cook

Shirley V. Cook, 63, of Fontanelle died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Shirley Bielenberg was born icon Feb. 14, 1937, in Schleswig, Iowa. She moved in the 1940s with her family to Omaha. She married Howard Cook June 16, 1961, in Omaha. She moved in 1965 to Fontanelle.

She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Omaha.

Survivors include: her husband; a son, Michael (and wife, Angi) Cook of Fremont; a daughter, Kim (Mrs. Frank) Braun of Arlington; three brothers, Don (and wife, Kathy) Bielenberg of Pocatello, Idaho, Richard (and wife, Ann) Bielenberg, and Loren (and wife, Cheryl) Bielenberg, all of Omaha; three sisters, Janice Heye of Scribner, Judy (Mrs. Bob) Kersenbrock of Omaha, and Maylou (Mrs. Russell) Brook of Boston; three brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Leslie (and wife, Ida) Cook of McKinney, Texas, Dr. Kenneth (and wife, Denise) Cook of Sidney, Dr. David (and wife, Anita) Cook of Omaha; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, with the Rev. Charles Bichel officiating. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m., both Monday, all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington.

Memorials have been established to American Cancer Society, Arlington Over 60 Center and Arlington Rescue Squad.

Delmar Leggett

The funeral for Delmar L. Leggett, 77, of Fremont will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.

He died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Leggett was born icon Sept. 5, 1922, in Diller to George H. and Tina Minnie “Hicken” Leggett. He was one of seven children. He served 1942-1946 in the United States Navy. He married Donna Furman March 19, 1947, in Washington, Kan.

He worked at Peoples Natural Gas Company. He retired in 1983, after 31 years of employment. He spent the majority of that time in Valley and Schuyler.

He was a member of Christian Church in Bellevue.

Survivors include: three daughters, Valinda (Mrs. Kim) Wollen of Omaha, La Jean Dowty of Grand Island and Betty (Mrs. Mike) Griffey of Fremont; a sister, Anna Nance of Fairbury; a brother, Harold Leggett of Sacramento, Calif.; a granddaughter, Denise Ritchhart; six grandsons, Travis Cody, Marty Wollen, Jeff Dowty, Dan Dowty, Curtis Wollen, Michael Dowty; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

The Rev. Paul Marine will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery near Elkhorn.

Military graveside honors will be conducted by Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854.
