Douglas R. Falke
October 10, 1938 - May 17, 2012

Douglas Raymond Falke died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 17, 2012, after a 2 1/2 -year battle with cancer.

He was born icon October 10, 1938 in Wahoo, Nebraska, to Harry and Lorene (Tennant) Falke. He resided his entire life in Wahoo, graduating from Wahoo High School, Luther Junior College, Dana Lutheran College, and Kearney State Teachers College, now UN-K.

Doug began his fifty-year career in education at Waterloo High School, now DC West. He then taught in the Omaha Public Schools - several years at Technical High School, a year at McMillan Junior High, and 29 years at Northwest High School, from which he retired in 2000.

Within days of his retirement from teaching high school business education, Doug was asked to work for the admissions department of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. He absolutely loved representing the college as he visited high schools throughout Nebraska. Doug then was employed by Midland College and finally as an instructor for the GED program jointly administered by the Omaha Public Schools and Creighton University, never retiring but continuing to work as his declining health would allow. Doug also served on the boards of Wahoo State Bank and Wahoo Public Schools.

Doug married Priscilla Fischer of Omaha on June 19, 1971. He is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, a daughter, two sons, and their spouses and children: Amy and husband Jeff Long and their daughter Natalie of Wahoo; Brent and wife Lindsay Falke and their children Parker and Sadie of Hillsdale, Michigan; and David and wife Jen Falke and their son Caleb of Omaha.

He is also survived by his brother Harry (Marilyn) Falke, and nephew Tim Falke, all of Wahoo, and many cousins. In addition, he is survived by a sister-in-law and four brothers-in-law and their spouses: Michelle Fouraker and Craig Fischer of Omaha; Bruce Fischer of Spokane, Washington; Scott Fischer of Leavenworth, Washington; and Doug Fischer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, along with many additional nieces and nephews.

Doug was the ultimate "family man." After his relationship with his Savior, most important to him was his family, and he especially delighted in and was devoted to the little ones who knew him as "Grandpa."
