Myrene Hammond, 87

LEXINGTON - Myrene G. Hammond, 87, of Lexington died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lexington Christian Church in Lexington, with the Rev. K.C. BeDunnah officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Mrs. Hammond was born icon Jan. 27, 1920, at Overton to Seth and Minnie (Johnson) Kincheloe.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband of 70 years, Walter Hammond of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barb Hammond of Lexington; and a sister, Lavern Lemmers of Kearney.

Additional survivors include grandchildren, Dick Reed of St. Paul, Peggy (Dan) Griffin of Elba, Penny (Howard) Beck of St. Paul, Pam (John) Baxa of Grand Island, Jolynn Stinehagen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ken (Rhonda) Hammond of Lexington, Janna (Bruce) Eberle of Grand Island, Chris (Kevin) Jenn of Amherst and Charlene (Eric) Hollister of Grand Island; 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and two on the way.

Myrene attended District 94 rural school at Elm Creek and then Elm Creek High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Hammond on Sept. 4, 1937, at Downs, Kan. Two children were blessed to this union, Gary and Barbara.

The couple lived their entire married lives on the farm, except for 10 years when they lived in Lexington. Myrene and Walter were members of Fairhaven Baptist Church until 1996, when they started attending the First Christian Church in Lexington. In 2000, the couple became members of the church.

Myrene was a member of the Meadowlark Garden Club for over 50 years, she worked as the receptionist and "orange juice lady" at the Lexington Blood Mobile for over 50 years, she was a leader for the Jr. Leaders 4-H Club, a charter member of the Grant Extension Club and the Tri-County Hospital Auxiliary.

She loved to crochet, garden, read, collect bells and cardinals. She loved to play cards, especially Pitch and Pinochle, and could still beat the pants off any of her opponents. She loved family gatherings and will be so very missed by her loving family.

Myrene was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dick Reed; and a brother, Lennie Kincheloe.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Christian Church or the donor's choice.

Linden Bockmann, 82

ST. PAUL - Linden R. Bockmann, 82, of St. Paul died, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Joseph W. Javorsky will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bockmann was born icon Feb. 27, 1925, at Palmer to William and Marie (Carstens) Bockmann.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Julia of St. Paul; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jim Campbell of Kearney; and a son and daughter-in-law, Les and Barb Bockmann of Palmer.

Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Melissa Bockmann of Lincoln, Michael Bockmann of St. Libory, Brian Campbell of Fremont, and Eric Campbell of Kearney.

Mr. Bockmann received his education at a country school near Palmer.After his education, he worked on the family farm. He married Julia Lamm on Dec. 27, 1950, in Grand Island. Mr. Bockmann was inducted into the U.S. Army in January of 1951, and was honorably discharged in November of 1951.

Mr. and Mrs. Bockmann farmed for many years in the Gage Valley area near Palmer.He retired from farming in 2004, and the couple then resided at the Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul from June of 2005 until March of 2006.Mr. Bockmann became a resident at the Heritage Living Center in March of 2006.

Mr. Bockmann's love in life was farming and attending and helping at auctions.He enjoyed building and restoring machinery, listening to Polka music, and going to Branson, Mo., each year with his wife.

Mr. Bockmann was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Harry Bockmann.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.

Helen B. Maxson

02/05/1919 - 4/5/2004

Helen B. Maxson, 85, of Grand Island, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a parish Rosary at 6:00 P.M.

Mrs. Maxson was born icon on February 5, 1919 in Campbell, Nebraska to Roland and Alice (Choquette) L’Heureux.

Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Doug Somer of Grand Island; and one sister, Pauline Stoffa of Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Maxson received her education at Campbell, Nebraska. She married Philip McGerty in 1944 in Los Angeles, California. Mr. McGerty died in 1954.

She moved to Grand Island and was employed at the Bosselman Eaton Café. She married Lester Maxson on September 14, 1973 in Grand Island.

Mrs. Maxson was then employed at the Balcony Lounge, and then at the Interstate Holiday Inn. She retired in 1987.

She enjoyed gardening, singing, and playing cards.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral; and the Catholic Daughters of The Americas Court Ave Maria #1263.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; one daughter, Diana McGerty; two brothers, Raymond L’Heureux and Paul L’Heureux; and one sister, Cecelia Thoma.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Shirley Ann Buck, 72

Shirley Ann Buck, 72, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at St. Francis Skilled Care.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Buck was born icon Aug. 7, 1935, at Palmer to Paul and Bernice (Burkman) Ewers.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Joseph Buck.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Kenneth; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul Buck, Robert "Bob" and Dawnita Buck, all of Grand Island, and Steven Buck of Pacific Grove, Calif.; her mother of St. Paul; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Arlene Jepson of St. Paul and Cindi and Mark Mendyk of St. Paul; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gene Ewers of Russell, Kan., and Paul "Dick" and Vickie Ewers of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish her memory are 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Her father also preceded her in death.

Shirley was raised on a family farm south of St. Paul. She attended School District 53 in Howard County and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1953. She taught in rural school in Howard County from 1953-1954.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Buck on July 12, 1954, at Holyoke, Colo. They resided in St. Paul until 1956, when they made their home in Grand Island. She was employed by Holiday Inn, Woolworth-Woolco and then went to work for Sears, retiring in 1989 after 15 years.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Sears Retirees Group. She worked for many years in the church nursery. Shirley enjoyed caring for children.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.

Trudy Tucker, 81

Trudy V. Tucker, 81, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Edgewood Vista in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stolley Park Church of Christ. Evangelist Gary L. Bennett will officiate.

Mrs. Tucker was cremated; there will be no visitation. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tucker was born icon on Sept. 21, 1926, in Texarkana, Texas, to M. Coy and Louise Kidd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Tucker, and an infant son.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Barry Rose of Grand Island; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Lana and Skip McCormick of Maryland and Diana Powell of Tacoma, Wash.; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Kidd and Inez Kidd, both of Texarkana, Texas.

Additional survivors include a stepgrandson, Eric McCormick.

Mrs. Tucker received her education in Texarkana and graduated from high school in 1943. She married Adrian L. "Al" Weaver on Dec. 21, 1946, at Longview, Texas. In 1949, the couple moved to Texarkana, and then moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1956. They then moved to Seattle in 1957, to Roy, Utah in 1960, and then to Huntsville, Ala., in 1964.

Trudy married Maurice B. Tucker on Jan. 15, 1972, at Huntsville. Mr. Tucker died in February 1987. Trudy moved to Grand Island in December 2003, and has been a resident of Edgewood Vista since July 2004.

She enjoyed ballroom dancing, square dancing, and collecting dolls and angels.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Homer and Travis Kidd.

Memorials are suggested to the Stolley Park Church of Christ or to Edgewood Vista.

Roene Trompke, 94

WOOD RIVER - Roene Stella Smith Trompke, 94, of Wood River died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Wood River Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River, with the Rev. Brad Jepsen officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Wood River.

Mrs. Trompke was born icon on June 27, 1913, at Comstock to Fred and Audra (Naab) Prettyman.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chauncey Smith, and a daughter, Wilma Lee.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Robert Trompke of Wood River; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Martha Smith of Sun City, Ariz.; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Donna Harders of Wood River, Darlene and Larry Larson of Golden, Colo., Maxine and Mason Hooker of Sun City, Ariz., Patty and Bill Fairbanks of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Debbie and Rodney Weitzel of North Platte.

Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, a great-grandson and several stepgrandchildren.

Her mother died when she was 8 years old and she then lived with her aunt and uncle, Erma and Forest Morris. She graduated from Comstock High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Chauncey L. Smith on Nov. 20, 1934, at Ord. The coupled lived in Arcadia, moved to Alda in 1942 and settled in Wood River in 1947. Mr. Smith died in 1970.

She worked at Dorothy's Caf in Wood River, where she made pies and rolls for several years. She married Robert Trompke on May 7, 1977. The couple made their home in Wood River.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Association and Ladies Circle as well as the Mariners. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, fishing, making baked goods for her grandchildren, quilting, flowers and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Doyle Harders; four great-grandchildren; brother, Max Prettyman; sister, Gerturde Cotterell, and a twin sister, Rojene, who died at birth.

Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Good Samaritan Center or to the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River.
