Juli Long, 44

BURWELL - Juli Mae Long, 44, of Burwell died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at home.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Burwell. The Rev. Dave Busch will officiate. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Long was born icon Nov. 17, 1962, at Burwell to Clarence "Chuck" and Sharon (Zaa) Fry.

Survivors of the immediate family include her fiance, Jouni Laatikainen of Burwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Jessie and Jennifer Janicek of Michigan; her father of Clifton, Colo.; a brother and sister-in-law, Brian Morgan and Linda Fry of Basalt, Colo.; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joli Brookes and Heidi and Randy Dawe, all of Ord.

Additional survivors include grandsons, Jonah and Ryan Janicek of Michigan; a grandmother, Ella Mae Fry of Grand Junction, Colo.; her nieces and nephews, Vanessa Brookes of Omaha, Aaron Fry of Colorado and Kelley, Kamron and Kaden Dawe, all of Ord.

Juli was raised in Burwell, where she also attended school. Juli met and married Chuck Janicek. The couple resided in Ord and had a son, Jessie Steven Janicek. In 1983, Juli moved to California to be near her brother, Brian. While living there, she took a secretarial course, she was employed at Best Pool Supply and enjoyed going to the beach. She met David Long and in 1991, the two were married and lived in Grand Island. Juli returned to California for a short time before she returned to Burwell in 1994.

Juli settled in Burwell, where she was employed at the Little Rascals Daycare for four years. Juli enjoyed the children and interacting with them as she truly was a child at heart. In 2001, Juli met Jouni Laatikainen of Burwell. The couple recently completed construction on their new house and Juli was looking forward to receiving guests and entertaining in their new home.

Juli was a very social person who enjoyed entertaining, traveling, music, bowling, poetry, camping and going to the lake. She made an impression upon all those she met. She was a person of many friends and no enemies. She enjoyed the children at the day care and especially enjoyed her pets, which she called her babies. Juli was looking forward to spending time with her two grandsons and being "G-Ma." Juli will be remembered by her outgoing personality, her one-line sayings and her motto, "All or nothing!"

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Jacobs; grandparents, Dale and Julia Warwick; and grandfather, Neil Fry.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Elaine Krause, 81

BURWELL - Elaine Frances Krause, 81, of Burwell died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Community Memorial Health Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Burwell. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Mrs. Krause was born icon Dec. 18, 1925, in Seward County to Louis and Clara (Hunsche) Mares.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Krause.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Philip Mann of Burwell; a son, Scott Krause and special friend, Barb McDermott, of Burwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Frances Mares; and a sister-in-law, Deloras Mares of Phoenix.

Eugene 'Chick' Davis, 81

Eugene "Chick" Davis, 81, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery at Palmer, with military rites by American Legion Post 120 of Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis was born icon Oct. 11, 1926, at Shelby to Austin and Susan Belle (McMillin) Davis.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Gertrude Davis of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Linda Davis of Casper, Wyo., and Carl and Jody Davis of Lincoln; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Johanna and Paul Leetch, Nancy Davis, all of Grand Island, Tina and Todd Minor of New Port, Tenn., and Rhonda Davis of Denver; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Carla and Dale Eddy of Archer; three stepsons and two stepdaughters-in-law, Terry and Rita Muir, David Muir and Rocky and Mary Muir, all of Grand Island; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Kathleen and George Tesar of Omaha, Winnie and Lloyd Rolf of Wyoming, Deva Van de Walle of Albion; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Colleen Davis of Fullerton, George and Sandra Davis and Arthur and Carolyn Davis, all of Grand Island; and a brother-in-law, Delbert Reiken.

Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 13 stepgrandchildren, 28 stepgreat-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

He attended school at St. Edward and Belgrade, where he completed 8th grade. He entered the United States Army Sept. 18, 1952, and served during the Korean Conflict, serving overseas in Korea. He received his honorable discharge Aug. 17, 1954.

He worked for Davis Bros. Construction for 32 years and Lee Zimmer and Sons as a truck driver for 10 years. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Muir on Dec. 8, 1975, at St. Paul. The couple made their home in Worms until November 1997, when he retired and moved to Grand Island. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, dancing and fellowshipping with his friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Calvin and Wallace; sister, Lola Rieken; a granddaughter and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Sylvia Caruthers, 87

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ‹ Sylvia Ellen Caruthers, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, in Tallahassee.

Services will be at 7 p.m. EST Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tallahassee. Burial will be in Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park, Timberlane Road.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. Thursday until the service hour at the church. Arrangements are by Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee.

Mrs. Caruthers was born icon April 5, 1920, at Chapman to David and Ethel Magnuson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Marion F. "Buck" Caruthers, in 2005.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Alan Gardner of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Debbie Caruthers of Puyallup, Wash., and Timothy and Kyle Caruthers of Auburn, Wash.

Additional survivors include 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She received her bachelor's degree in English from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she also met her husband-to-be, Buck. The two were married Aug. 19, 1941. Throughout Buck's career in the Air Force, he and Sylvia lived all over the world until they retired to Tallahassee in 1976. Sylvia was a perfect fit for military life she loved to entertain and did so frequently, she made herself at home wherever she was and was actively involved in whatever community she found herself in. She was an active member of her church, a longtime member of the Tallahassee Symphony Society, Republican Women's Club, Retired Air Force Association, Red Cross and Laubach Literary Society and volunteered for many political campaigns. She delivered Meals On Wheels for more than 25 years with her husband and continued to do so until a few months ago.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Cross, 187 Office Plaza Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32301.

Maybelle Burke, 82

GREELEY - Maybelle Burke, 82, of Greeley died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Howard County Community Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Greeley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Yvonne Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Valley View Cemetery at Genoa.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Andrews, 87

SANDY, Utah - Gertrude E. (Gee) Andrews, 87, of Sandy, Utah, formerly of the Palmer and Central City areas, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Apria Assisted Living in Sandy.

Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.

Jayden Ritter, 2 Adrian Ritter, 5 months

NORTH PLATTE - Jayden Christopher Thomas Ritter, 2, and Adrian James Ritter, 5 months, died Oct. 31, 2007, at their home in North Platte.

Jayden was born icon Oct. 25, 2005, in Broken Bow. Adrian was born icon May 25, 2007, in North Platte.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the North Platte Berean Church, with the Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors of the immediate family include their parents, Eric and Sheena Thomas Ritter; and four grandparents, Debbie Ritter and Gary Larson of Grand Island and Kim and Shelly Thomas of Broken Bow.

Also surviving are two great-grandmothers, Beverly Young of Broken Bow and Phyllis Reed of Ogallala; four great-great-grandparents, Arlita and Donald Tabor of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Wanda and Carl Schmidt of Yuma, Ariz.; a special uncle, Tristian Larson; and numerous other family members and friends.

They were preceded in death by their grandfather, Tom Ritter.

Jayden was mom's little helper and a great big brother. Adrian was a very happy baby.

Register book signing will be Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Ellen Sorensen, 95

OMAHA - Ellen R. Sorensen, 95, of Omaha, formerly of the Boelus area, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in Omaha.

Services were at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Boelus. The Rev. Dale Lambert officiated. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Boelus.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sorensen was born icon Oct. 23, 1912, in Boelus to Julius and Anna (Rohling) Bernhagen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Sorensen; a daughter, Marlene; a brother, Paul Bernhagen; and three sisters, Gertrude Sorensen, Lillie Whitefoot and Irene Fabre.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Karen Sorensen of Omaha, and a sister-in-law, Fern Bernhagen of Elkhorn

She is also survived by four grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was raised near Boelus and attended country school north of Boelus. She then attended Boelus High School, where she graduated in 1930.

She was united in marriage to George Sorensen Jr. on Jan. 25, 1935, in Cairo. The couple lived on a farm north of Boelus. The couple lived in the Boelus and Howard County areas until 1986 when they moved to Omaha to be near their son.

Mr. Sorensen died July 7, 1988. Ellen continued to live in Omaha for the remainder of her life.

Ellen had a great love for music and people. She taught herself how to play the piano. She was the choir director at the Methodist church in Boelus for many years. She also played at St. Paul Methodist Church and other functions. She was a member of the Omaha Christian Center.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
