Dorothy Larson.jpg (21845 bytes)Dorothy M. Larson, 75, of Central City, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at her home. Funeral services will be Monday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City with the Reverend Brad Rick officiating. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Dorothy was born icon on August 24, 1925 near Battle Creek, Nebraska the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Brase) Rodekohr. She grew up on a farm near Battle Creek and attended parochial school there. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943. She completed college in only three years, receiving a B.S. in Education, cum laude, from Wayne State College. She taught two years in Ponca, NE and 6th grade for four years in Norfolk, NE. A highlight at Ponca was directing a one-act play for county contest and receiving first place. She loved teaching music to her 6th grade class.

She was united in marriage to Donald C. Larson on July 6, 1952, at Battle Creek, NE. The couple farmed north of Meadow Grove, NE until 1958. They then moved to Loup City where Don worked for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1963, they moved to Central City, NE. Dorothy was a homemaker and active volunteer. From 1960-1975, Dorothy taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and directed Christmas Eve programs.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, LWML, and enjoyed making photo albums, playing with her grandchildren and the neighbor children.

Survivors include her husband, three sons, Glenn (Jo) Larson of Henderson, NE; Dale (Elaine) Larson of Garland, TX; Wayne (Janelle) Larson of Des Moines, IA; two daughters, Ann (Murray) Ostberg of Omaha NE; Helen (Gary) Krichau of Omaha, NE; fourteen grandchildren; one brother, John David (Donna) Rodekohr of Battle Creek, NE; and six sisters; Marjory (Wayne) Tegeler of Meadowgrove, NE; Helen Wegner of Santa Fe, NM; Artie Russell Summerlin of Tucker, GA; Annette (Melvin) Miller of Battle Creek, NE; Marcy Lee(Jim) Bartee of Norfolk, NE; and Joan (Jerry) Freudenburg of Peoria, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Vera E. (Wiles) Brannan

Vera E. (Wiles) Brannan, 92, of Central City died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Central City with the Reverend Joy Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 on Friday at Wagner Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church.

Vera was born icon on July 5, 1908 at Schuyler, Nebraska to Eli L. and Emma (Brummer) Wiles. She grew up in the Clarks area and graduated from Clarks High School in 1926. She attended Nebraska Central College from 1926 to 1927 and from 1929 to 1930.

She was united in marriage to Francis Brannan on February 22, 1936 in Central City. The couple lived and farmed Northeast of Central City from 1936 to 1978 when they moved into Central City. Mr. Brannan died on October 22, 1991. Vera taught in rural Merrick County Schools for 11 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and confirmed in 1923. She was a 4H Leader, Farm Bureau Member, Wesleyan Sunday School Class Member, Lucky Ladies Extension Club, United Methodist Women and a Bible School and Sunday School teacher. Vera enjoyed traveling, crafts, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and playing games and cards. She also loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna (Oren) Skiles of Arkansas City, KS; Mary (Charles) Eckery of Red Feathers Lakes, CO; and Elaine Brannan of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Lindgreen of Clarks, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Dorothy Prososki, 81, of Central City died Friday, March 23, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE. Funeral services will be Monday, March 26, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Father Nelson Newman and Father Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Clarks. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Scripture Service starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Dorothy was born icon on February 6, 1920 at Clarks, Nebraska to Joseph and Valeria (Podraza) Kiolbasa. She grew up at Clarks, and graduated from Clarks High School in 1937.

She was united in marriage to Leo J.Prososki on August 12, 1942, at Clarks Nebraska. The couple lived in rural Clarks until 1982, when they moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico for 10 years. In 1993 they moved back to Central City where she was currently living.

Dorothy was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City, St. Peter’s Altar Society in Clarks, Nebraska, the Altar Society of St. Edward’s, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and St. Michael’s Altar Society in Central City, Nebraska. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, baking cookies and breads etc., and talking about her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; one son, John (Evelyn) Prososki of Clarks, NE; four daughters- Alice Prososki of St. Rose, LA; Janice (William) Schell of Milledgeville, IL; Mary (John B. Sr.) Sims of Grand Island, NE; Lucille (Lucy) (Ronald) Hinrichs of Malcolm, NE; thirteen grandchildren-Janelle Prososki, Connie Prososki, Dewayne Prososki, Bernard (Bernie) Prososki, Scott Erthum, Heidi Davis, Derek Davis, John B. Sims Jr., Mary Lee Smith, Amanda Hinrichs, Heather Hinrichs, Brooke Hinrichs, Brittany Hinrichs,; five great-grandchildren- Dylan Smith, Kristen Erthum, Kyle Erthum, Mckenna Erthum, Zachery Sims; three sisters- Elizabeth Jarecki of Columbus, NE; Esther Hornback of Frankfort, IL; Lorraine Siemek of Omaha, NE; three step grandchildren- Christi Gallentine, Tammy Chino, Wesley Schell; step great-granddaughter- Brooklynn Gallentine; one brother-in-law- Harlon Dixon of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Alexander; three sisters, Francis Kiolbasa, Clara Ksiazek and Monica Dixon; four brothers-in-law, Ted Ksiazek, Emory Jarecki, Lindy Hornback and Dan Siemek; and infant niece, Eugenie Jarecki.

Deva M. Ellison

Deva M. Ellison, 86, of Central City, died Sunday, March 4, 2001 at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley, California. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with the Reverend Joy Savage officiating. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Ellison was born icon on October 31, 1914 in Archer, Nebraska to George and Jennette (Sporer) Lindgreen. She grew in Central City and graduated from Central City High School. She was united in marriage to Leo D. Ellison on April 5, 1935 in Smith County, Kansas. Afterwhich, the couple lived in Central City where she was a homemaker. Her family referred to her as the "chief cook" at home. Mr. Ellison died on February 2, 1990. .

Deva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City, Merrick County Extension Club, and the Rebekah Grand Lodge.

Survivors include one son- Jarold L. (Gayle) Ellison of Reno, NV; one daughter- Ruth M. Gillan of Sylmar, CA; three sisters- Virginia Botts of Purdum, NE; O’letha Nelson of Longmont, CO; and Jeanette (Dean) Wilder of Sylmar, CA; one sister in law- Edith Lindgreen of Clarks, NE; two step sisters- Alnetta Reeves of Central City, NE and Charlotte (Reeves) Decker of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren – Jan Dee (Joe) Nearman and Brian (Karen) Ellison all of Reno, NV; Deanna (Tim) Way of Portland, OR and Kenton Gillan of Central City, NE and 5 great grandchildren-Tylene, Tammie, Michelle, Chad and Emily.

Preceded in death by her husband, brother- Charles Lindgreen, step brothers-Benton Reeves, Eric Reeves, and Bob Reeves; and one infant daughter- Shirley Jean Ellison

Roger Elmer "Lewy" Lewis

Roger Elmer "Lewy" Lewis, 39, of Troy, Tennessee, died January 17, 2001 as a result of an auto accident in Troy, Tennessee. Memorial Services will be Friday, January 26, 2001 at 7:30 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with the Reverend Charles Pollard officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Lewis was born icon on September 25, 1961 at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA to Dale and Bonnie (Phelps) Lewis. He moved to Nebraska as an infant. Living in Scottsbluff, Lodgepole, and Milford before moving to Central City in 1965. He was educated and graduted from Central City High School in 1979. He joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1979 until 1983. He then lived in Grand Island and Kearney. He stayed with the Navy Reserve in Omaha until his return to the Active Navy in July of 1987. He spent most his Navel career at sea aboard the USS Coral Sea, USS Albert David, USS Stanley, USS Sacramento and USS Mars. All ships that he was on have now been decommissioned. He was involved in the Iranian Conflict and was on the last US Navel ship to pass through the Panama Canal. The past two and a half years he was on recruiting duty in Martin, Tennessee. Mr. Lewis asked and received a piece of the USS Arizona that was at the bottom of Pearl Harbor and donated it to the VFW in Martin, Tennessee. Mr. Lewis was a Navy Chief Petty Officer.

On May 24, 1986, he married Lisa Becker. On July 20, 1991, he married Deanna Crozier in Portland, OR. On March 15, 1992, Mr. Lewis father a daughter (Heather) in San Diego, CA. On November 6, 2000 he married Billie (Baggett) Faulkner in Union City, Tennessee.

He loved the Navy and being on the high seas. He enjoyed fishing on the ocean and being with friends and family. Mr. Lewis also loved being around kids playing Santa at the Vets Club in Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife Billie of Troy, TN; one daughter- Heather of Portland, OR; Parents- Bonnie Lewis of Central City, NE and Dale Lewis of Grand Island, NE; two stepsons- Chris Watson and Anthony Faulkner of Troy, TN; one stepdaughter- Tiffany of Troy, TN; one brother- David (Cindy) Lewis of Central City, NE; two sisters- Becky Kula of Phoenix, AZ and Natalie (Joe) Sokolik of Grand Island, NE and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents- Elmer and Malinda Phelps and Paternal grandparents Don and Dorthy Lewis.

Daphne P. Kufeldt

Daphne P. Kufeldt, 69, of rural Central City died Friday, January 12, 2001 at Litzenburg Memorial Hospital in Central City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at the United Methodist Church of Central City with Ellen Campbell officiating, and assistance from the Rev. Charles Pollard and Rev. Joy Savage. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.

Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton/Merrick County Special Olympics, Litzenburg Memorial County Hospital Foundation or the Timberlake Ranch Camp.

Daphne was born icon on August 17, 1931 at Maxwell, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Charley I. and Nellie P. (Bullis) Peck. She grew up in the Maxwell, Brady and Gothenburg communities of Nebraska and in Chicago and Blue Island, Illinois. She attended schools in all those communities.

She was united in marriage to Philip Kufeldt on June 9, 1948 at Lexington, Nebraska. The couple lived for a time in Climax, Colorado and then returned to farm in the Gothenburg, Genoa and Clarks areas of Nebraska in 1964 and then to an acreage east of Central City in 1973. Her husband Philip died in 1973. Daphne was employed by the Central Nebraska Support Service Program as a teacher’s aide. She worked in the Aurora School system and later in the Grand Island Public Schools. She retired in 1996.

Daphne was heavily involved with Scouts, church activities, 4-H, camp crafts’ counselor and other community activities. She was an outspoken advocate for the rights of physically and mentally challenged citizens. A member of the A.R.C. and Y.A.R.C., she was a coach for many of the Hamilton/Merrick County Special Olympic teams. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters.

Survivors include her children, two sons-Alex (Susan) Kufeldt of Kearney, NE; Philip (Vickie) Kufeldt of Clarks, NE; and one daughter-Patricia (Bill) Bolte of Central City, NE; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and four step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, David (Charlene) Peck of Cozad, NE; and sisters, Gail Murray of Ozark, Missouri; Shirley (Virgil) Hoskins of Arnold, NE; Charlotte (Merlin) Nelson of Knoxville, Iowa; Barbara Golden of Hastings, NE; and Judy (Dennis) Zimbelman of Cozad, NE. She is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a step great-granddaughter, Skylar; one brother, Charles Allen; and two sisters, Izola Mae and Sharon Rose.

Lawrence Murl Clark

Lawrence Murl Clark , 80, of Central City, died Tuesday, December 26, 2000 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 28, 2000 at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City at 2 PM with the Reverend Brad Rick officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.

Mr. Clark was born icon on July 14, 1920 in Tilden, Nebraska to Lyman Murl and Emma Ida Marie (Dahms) Clark. Lawrence grew up in Tilden and moved to Central City when he was twelve years old. He then began to work in his father’s bakery called Clark’s Bakery. He was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Boom on June 16, 1945 in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple then took over Clark’s Bakery after the death of Lawrence’s father. Mr. Clark retired in 1975.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Valley View, and the Sportsman Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, cooking, and trips to Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife – Gloria of Central City, NE

He was preceded in death by 1 infant brother; and 1 half-sister- Mildred Abrahamson

Lula I. Hladky

Lula I. Hladky, 83, of Central City, died Friday, December 15, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 20, 2001 at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. The Reverend Rich Savage will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Mrs. Hladky was born icon on September 26, 1917 , at Allendale, Missouri to Robert Luther and Bearl (Moore) Spencer. When she was 4 years old, the family moved to Mt. Ayr, Iowa. She attended the Leasonville Rural School for 2 years. She then attended Mt. Ayr Public School, graduating in 1936. In 1937, the family moved to Central City. She attended Nebraska Central College and taught for 3 years in Merrick County Rural Schools, with the last 2 years being at District 19.

She was united in marriage to Ernest F. Hladky on June 25, 1941 at Fremont, Nebraska. The couple lived North of Archer for awhile and then into Central City in 1947. Mr. Hladky died on December 1, 1998. Lula enjoyed growing roses, gardening, crocheting, and playing bingo. She had been living at the Nebraska Veterans Home for the last two years.

She is survived by one brother- Robert (Agnes) Spencer of Central City, NE; four sisters- Beulah (Walt) Stanislav of Lincoln, NE; Doris Lorensen of Central City, NE; Bonnie Murphy of Bakersville, NC; and Betty (Ed) Rasmussen of Marquette, NE; one sister-in-law Ruby Spencer of Central City,NE; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband two brothers- Albert in infancy and Loyde Spencer.
