Kenneth George Poppert
REDMOND, Ore. - George Kenneth Poppert, 80, of Redmond, Ore., died May 26, 2007, of Melanoma.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Grand Island. The Rev. Jerry Ness and Deacon Betsy Bennett will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at 9 a.m. in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

All Faiths Funeral Home assisted with local arrangements.

Mr. Poppert was born icon July 17, 1926, at Norton, Kan., George Poppert and Ruby Gustin.

Survivors of the immediate family include his children, Vicki Davis of Sherman, Texas, Debbie Lambert of Portland, Ore., Terrie, Tina and Mitch, all of Crooked River, Ore.; two sisters, Carol Mathews of Grand Island and Beverly Carpenter of Redmond, Ore.; and a brother, Richard of Olympia, Wash.

Additional survivors include eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

He graduated from high school in 1944. He married Dorothy Wade in May 1948. Two children were born, Vicki Irene and Debra Kay. She passed away in 1952. He married Janet Schubert in March 1956. They had three children; Terrie Sue, Tina Marie and George Mitchell.

Mr. Poppert served aboard the USS Colbert during World War II. He worked as a brick mason in many places. He had helped build the current St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Redmond, where he was a member. He was a member of a bowling team in Redmond, was an avid Golfer. He enjoyed woodworking. He lived in Redmond for 18 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Melanoma Care.

Ronald Rathjen
Ronald Rathjen, 69, of Grand Island died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Jon Rathjen will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery at Ravenna.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rathjen was born icon June 28, 1938, at Sweetwater to Henry and Freda Rathjen.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Gosnell.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Charlene; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Craig Rathjen of Springfield, Mo., Ricky Rathjen of Talladega, Ala., and Henry and Sara Rathjen of Grand Island; three daughters and a son-in-law, Vickie and Pat Martin, Terri McMullen and Jessica Rathjen, all of Grand Island; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Sondra Rathjen of Lincoln and Russell and Marilyn Rathjen of Kearney; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanene and Ed Melton and Doris and Ben Russell, all of Ravenna.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Carley, Rachel, Matthew, Stephanie, Justin, Cami, Ramsey and Rabecca; and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Rathjen; and a sister, Carolyn Voboril.

Ron was raised in Sweetwater and Ravenna, graduating from Ravenna High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Charlene Kruser on Aug. 26, 1974, at Mitchell, S.D. They made their home in Grand Island, where Ron worked for Harwager Poultry, and then became a fireman for the Grand Island Fire Department. He retired in 1982. Ron founded Rathjen and Son, Inc.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche. He enjoyed gardening, Keno, politics and spending time with his grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to either Trinity Lutheran School or Heartland Lutheran High School.

Jerome J. Rathman
Jerome J. Rathman, 75, of Wood River died Friday, May 2, 2008, at home after a lengthy illness with cancer.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand Island. The Rev. Tim Rust will officiate. Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery, with military honors by Wood River American Legion Post 314.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Abundant Life Christian Center. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rathman was born icon March 8, 1933, at Alda to Herman and Mamie (Seier) Rathman.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paige.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Janice; a daughter and son-in-law, Kenda and Dave Chamberlin of Hastings; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Lisa Rathman of Wood River; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Eunetta and Ben Schoneberg of Grand Island and Emogene Veeder of Cairo; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Merlin and Maxine Rathman and Delbert and Jan Rathman, all of Wood River and Elton and Vera Rathman of Grand Island.

Other survivors include grandchildren, Adam Rathman, Meagan Rathman, Joshua Chamberlin and Taylor Chamberlin.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, LaVonne.

Jerome was raised on a farm south of Wood River and attended District School 63 and graduated from Wood River High School in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953.

He was united in marriage to Janice Peirce on Nov. 22, 1956, at Wood River. They farmed near Wood River, and Jerome also worked for Federal Crop Insurance as an area claim specialist, from which he retired. He continued working as an insurance adjuster.

He was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center and the Wood River American Legion. He enjoyed golfing in the senior tournaments and with family, and fishing with family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Clark W. Reese
Clark W. Reese, 57, of Grand Island died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church's columbarium.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Reese was born icon Nov. 14, 1950, at Omaha to Walter and Irma (Jahrmarkt) Reese.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Karen, and a son, Ryan Reese of Washington, D.C..

Additional survivors include his father-in-law and his wife, Harold and Donna Ward of Grand Island; a brother-in-law and his wife, Doug and Cheryl Ward of Grand Island; two nephews, Conor and Derek Ward; and Clark's Godchildren, Jonathan and Abbie Reece.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Esther Ward.

A special thank you extended to our dear friends, Bill and Diane Reece of Wahoo, who opened their hearts and home during Clark's illness. Thank you also to all of our neighbors and friends for their prayers, love and support.

Clark grew up and received his education in Omaha, moving to Grand Island for his junior year and graduating from GISH in 1969. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in marketing and economics, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Clark completed his Master's in Business Administration at the University of Kearney.

He was united in marriage to Karen Ward on Aug. 25, 1973, at Grand Island. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Grand Island. Clark spent the majority of his professional career working as a sales representative and manager in the field of Telecommunications. Later in his career, he served as an individual investment adviser.

Clark served on the Grand Island Education Foundation Board, Hall County Leadership Unlimited Board and CRISIS Center Inc. Board. He was a member of the Leadership Tomorrow Youth Program Committee, Leadership Tomorrow Alumni Committee and Grand Island Information Technology Committee. In the past, Clark was a board member of the Moonshell Arts and Humanities Council, the Grand Island Senior High Drama/Chorale Boosters and the Grand Island Senior High Band Boosters; a member of the Grand Island Public Schools/Infrastructure Committee; Division co-chair of Heartland United Way; he served in many capacities at Trinity United Methodist including sponsoring Junior/Senior High Youth Group and Sunday School Teacher; he chaired the Renovation Campaign and was chairman of the American Cancer Society/Hall County Unit/Special Events where he initiated the first Relay For Life in Grand Island.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island Education Foundation or the CRISIS Center.

Mary Rochek
Mary Rochek, 100, of Grand Island, formerly of Alda, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Golden Living Center at Lakeview.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend

Nancy Lambert will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mary was born icon December 7, 1907 at Pottawattamie County, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Nora Gallup. In 1910 Mary and her family moved to farm near Cushing, NE where she graduated from Cushing High School in 1927.

On December 3, 1930 she married Carl Rochek at Cushing, NE. In 1942 they moved to the Rochek home place. In 1948 they moved to Wolbach and to Alda in 1951. In December of 2001 she moved into Grandview Apartments in Grand Island and in March of 2005 she moved to Lakeview Nursing Center.

Mary is a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. She played drums in the Carl Rochek Rhythm Ramblers Dance Band. She was employed at Wolbach’s, Safeway and J.C. Penny’s. Later she assisted Carl in the lawn service they owned.

Survivors are her grandchildren, Rick and Sherry Otto of Grand Island, Jay and Michelle Otto of Phillips, Daryl and Amy Rochek of Richland, WA, Edward Rochek of Newport, WA, Alan Rochek of Eloy, Arizona, daughter-in-law, Rose Mae Rochek of Newport, WA, and several great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, daughter and son-in-law, Carleene and Richard Otto, a son George, granddaughter Ralynda, a brother George and a sister Nona.

A memorial fund will be established in Mary’s name.

Leisa Ann Rohling
Leisa Ann Rohling, 53, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Dr. Scott Taylor will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rohling was born icon Oct. 31, 1954, at El Dorado, Kan., to Harry and Phyllis (Bruce) Gregersen.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Curt Rohling; a daughter, Katie Rohling of Grand Island; a son, Adam Rohling of Grand Island; her parents of Grand Island; and a brother, Bruce Gregersen of Loup City.

Leisa graduated from Grand Island Senior High, Class of 1973.

She attended Kearney State College.

On Jan. 18, 1980, she was united in marriage to Curt Rohling.

She was employed by Overland National Bank and went to work in 1979 for Five Points Banks, where she was vice president of human resources.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She was involved with Junior Achievement, enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, but most of all Leisa enjoyed her family.

Her brother, Danny Joe Gregersen, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in memory of Leisa to benefit cancer patients and their families.

Evelyn F. Rosenkoetter
Evelyn F. Rosenkoetter, 77, of Grand Island, NE died May 4, 2008 at the Nebraska Veterans Home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Michael Reiners officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation will be Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home with family greeting friends from 5-7.

Evelyn was born icon on August 17, 1930 in Grand Island, the daughter of August and Addie (Klein) Langenheder. She grew up in Grand Island, receiving her education at country school and graduated from GISH in 1948. She entered the United States Air Force on August 16, 1949, serving during the Korean War. She and Eugene were united in marriage on September 20, 1956 in Manhattan, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Grand Island.

Evelyn was employed by NTC for 14 years and for Fair Acres Dairy for 26 years. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Shalom Circle of the LWML, the VFW, the Platt Deutsche and the Saddle Club. She enjoyed bowling, camping and sewing.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Linda and Patrick O’Brien of Bradshaw, NE and Susan and Dale Boyd of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Delores Langenheder of Grand Island, sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Tom Carmin of Doniphan, grandchildren; Molly O’Brien and her fiancé, Gavin Geis of Omaha and Daniel O’Brien of Bradshaw.

Her parents and her husband, Eugene Rosenkoetter, preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Peace Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
