Minnie D. Bruhn

Minnie D. Bruhn, 89, of Wood River, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend William Pavuk will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Grand Island Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until service time at the church. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie was born icon April 7, 1917, at Alda to William and Dora (Nissen) Luth.

She grew up in the Alda area on the family farm and was educated at District 6 School.

Minnie married Wayne Bruhn on May 9, 1941 in Kearney. They farmed in the Wood River – Cairo area all of their lives.

She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and attending country music concerts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Minnie was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche ladies society. She also enjoyed playing cards at the Cairo Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on April 7, 1983; and a son, Patrick, on October 2, 1947.

Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Dennis of Wood River; three daughters and one son-in-law, Janice Holt and Rogene Steiner of Grand Island, and Pat and Bud Stoeger of Dannabrog, one brother, Bill Luth of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; and two sisters, Helen Shipman of Adams, NE , Elsie Lilienthal of Grand Island, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and infant son, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the family’s choice.

David Carodine

David A. Carodine 52, of Grand Island died Thursday January 25, 2007 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.

David was born icon February 27, 1954 at Grand Island the son of Gary and Doris (Hartman) Carodine. He was raised and received his education in Grand Island. He entered the United States Navy serving from June 6, 1975 till March 28, 1977. He lived in Grand Island, Hastings and Minden.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and being out doors. He also enjoyed listening to music.

Survivors are two sisters Iona Evans and Kathy Evans both of Grand Island and a brother Danny Evans of Lincoln.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to Beverly Health Care at Sargent, NE.

Patricia "Pattye" Christensen

Patricia R. (Pattye) Christensen, 76, of Grand Island, died Saturday January 27, 2007 at her home.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Pattye was born icon March 26, 1930 at Harrisonville, Missouri the daughter of Theodore and Bertha (Gillham) Vanosdall. She was raised and received her education in Grand Island. She was united in marriage to Harold Christensen on April 3, 1949. They lived in Grand Island until moving to Cheyenne in 1975. She worked at Cheyenne Health Care until her retirement, and then relocated back to Grand Island in 1993.

She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, RSVP Program, and enjoyed delivering meals on wheels and Wednesday lunch with the ladies. She also enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are her stepmother Helen Vanosdall of Grand Island, sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl Christensen of Great Falls, Montana, Ronald and Cathy Christensen of Grand Island, Larry Christensen of Boise, Idaho, Gary and Lisa Christensen of Avondale, Arizona and Steve Christensen of Boise, Idaho, a daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Butch Tilton of Cheyenne, Wyoming, brothers Glenn and Wayne Vanosdall of Grand Island and David Vanosdall of Hastings, NE and sisters Marie Lassen of Lincoln, NE and Leah McKercher of Grand Island, grandchildren Toby and Darcie Christensen, Brayden and Stacey Christensen, Alaina and Todd Verplank, Logan Christensen, Blake and Trina Christensen, Stacy and Haley Christensen, Bailie Tilton, and four great grandchildren and many near and dear friends and extended family.

Her husband, parents and three brothers preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the family or St. Francis Hospice of Grand Island.

Eloise Clayton

Eloise Clayton, 84, of Grand Island, died Friday March 9, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Eloise ClaytonServices will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Reverend William Nottage-Tacey will officiate. Family burial services will be prior to the memorial service at the Grand Island Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eloise was born icon in Fairmont, Nebraska to Laurence and Leliah Camp on January 26, 1923. At one year of age the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband John, who passed away in July 2001.

Survivors of the immediate family include four sons, Mark A. Clayton of Geneva, Switzerland; Bruce D. and Francine Clayton of Indianapolis, Indiana; Steven L. Clayton and Stephanie Stringer of Norfolk, Virginia; and John R. and Rhonda Clayton of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and her sister Eunice Woodworth of San Diego, California.

Also surviving are five grandchildren: Andrew and Lee Clayton, Sarah and Beth Clayton, and Patrick Clayton, and two great grandchildren Mutiara and Iman Clayton.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940 and attended the University of Nebraska for three and a half years. She married John David Clayton on May 26, 1943. They lived in Grand Island, raised four sons, and enjoyed 58 years of marriage.

After the children were grown Eloise worked in Clayton’s Pharmacy, founded in 1910 by John’s father. Later they opened several gift stores and a Christmas store in Grand Island.

Her greatest joy came from her family and their times together.

For more than 50 years she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. She served as an Elder, and later a Deacon, a position she held until now.

Singing was a special interest, both as a soloist and member of several choirs in the area. A Master Gardner, her garden was featured on the YWCA Garden Walk twice. For more than 60 years she belonged to Chapter CK of P.E.O. Other memberships include gardening and gourmet groups.

She was elected President of the Nebraska Pharmaceutical Ladies Auxiliary. Other interests included traveling, pets, fishing, living at Kuester Lake, and being with friends.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Richard L. Crabtree
Richard L. Crabtree, 76, of Grand Island, formerly of Hastings, died Wednesday June 13, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend William Pavuk will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. The United Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard was born icon January 5, 1931 at Hastings, the son of Raymond and Ernestine (Sigel) Crabtree. He was raised in Hastings graduating from Hastings High School in 1949. Richard received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Hastings College in 1953 where he served as class president. He served in the United States Army Counter Intelligence in the Far East from 1954-1955. He then earned his Master of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska Kearney in 1966.

For twenty-one years (1955-1976) he taught at Hastings Junior High School, serving as the head football and basketball coach from 1956-1967. From 1977-1991 he taught at the Doniphan Public Schools; serving as faculty chairman and coordinator of district self evaluation. He initiated District participation in the Close-Up Foundation and attended two Close-Up seminars in Washington D.C. He also served as assistant football coach for five seasons.

He was united in marriage to Agnes Tweito McMillen on August 8, 1988 in Hastings.

Richard enjoyed Husker Football, golfing, and was an avid reader. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Saddle Club.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Agnes, son Stephen Crabtree of Las Vegas, NV, daughter ReNae Crabtree Allen of Overland Park, KS, stepson Drew McMillen of College Station, TX, his mother Ernestine Crabtree of Hastings, brother and sister-in-law John and Judy Crabtree of Grand Island and grandchildren Ashley Gibson, Bif Allen, Stephanie and Chris Doan.

His father and a sister Janet Cushing preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested either to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the Lutheran World Relief.

Kilah Ann Davidson

Kilah Ann Davidson, 4 months, of Grand Island, died Monday February 19, 2007 at Grand Island.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Nancy Lambert will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services with inurnment at a later date at Westlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from noon until services on Friday.

Kilah was born icon September 20, 2006 at Grand Island the daughter of Kendra Baker and Timothy Davidson.

Survivors include her parents, a sister Morgan Weber, grandparents, Michael and Mona Baker, Gary and Carol Nelson, Yvon Baker and Scott Rogers and great grandmother Mabel Baker.

Those also left to cherish her memory are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Leonard Dawson

Leonard F. Dawson, 90, of Grand Island, died Monday – January 22, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. The Reverend Del Roper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. The United Veteran’s Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Leonard was born icon May 15, 1916 at Woodsen County, Kansas the son of Benjamin and Mary (Kretsinger) Dawson. He was raised on a family farm between Toronto and Yates Center, Kansas. He attended rural country school and graduated from Toronto High School in 1933. Leonard attended Pittsburgh Kansas State College for 2 years earning his Lifetime Teaching Certificate in 1936. He taught for four years while helping his father on the farm. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He then served in the Army Reserves until 1955. He then attended Kansas State University of Manhattan receiving his degree in Agriculture in 1949. He was united in marriage to Elva Currence on June 3, 1951 at Manhattan, Kansas. They moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1951. Leonard was a traveling sales representative selling farm and truck equipment for 33 years. Following his retirement he spent 2 summers working for the Forrest Service in Wyoming. He spent 11 years working a small acreage near Grand Island. He has been a backyard gardener since. He joined the Masons in 1937, the Woodsen Lodge in Toronto, Kansas receiving his 32 nd degree in 1970 and joined the Tehama Shrine the same year. He was a member of the Central Nebraska Shrine Club and the Central Nebraska Motor Patrol. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Elva, son and daughter-in-law Larry and Jill Dawson of Missoula, Montana, two daughters Mary Dawson Hall of Pleasant Hill, CA, Carla Coleen Schurman of Pennsauken, New Jersey, a sister Mildred Alfrey of Tallahassee, Florida, grandchildren Carrie, Elizabeth, Alexander and Kenneth and great grandchildren John and Catherine.

His parents, a brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Hospital for Children or donor’s choice.
