Marie E. Mierau

Marie E. Mierau, 87 of St. Libory, died Thursday – January 18, 2007 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul, Nebraska.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Harvest Time Baptist Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Rob Inge will officiate. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Friesen Cemetery at Henderson, NE.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Mrs. Mierau was born icon November 16, 1919 at Henderson, NE the daughter of Henry and Anna (Penner) Ediger.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Frank, sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Gwen Mierau of Bolivar, MO and Mike and Judy Mierau of Grand Island, two sisters, Bertha Benson of Tyler, TX and Mable Mierau of Aurora, CO., six grandchildren.

She was raised on the family farm in York County, attending District 73 School near Henderson. On December 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Frank Mierau at York, NE. They farmed five miles west of York until moving to Grand Island in 1952. They moved to St. Libory in 1980. Marie worked at the Nebraska Veterans Home, the Ordinance Plant and she and her husband were custodians for the St. Libory School from 1984-1996.

She is a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church and some of her enjoyments was sewing, quilting and gardening.

Her daughter Diana Gartner and a brother Panley Ediger preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to Harvest Time Baptist Church.

Willard L. Morton
Willard L. Morton, 84, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Willard was born icon December 18, 1922 at Cody, NE the son of Lemuel and Elizabeth (Minarick) Morton. His family moved from Cody to Ainsworth in 1923. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1940. He attended Chadron State College. He taught in Brown County Rural Schools for 3 years. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served in the Dental Corps with the 249th General Hospital, attached to the 5th Air Force in the Philippines. Upon returning from the military he worked at Radio Station KMMJ from 1946 until retiring in 1987.

Willard was born icon and baptized in the United Methodist faith. He was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church serving on various boards and agencies of the local church, Nebraska Methodist Conference and the Methodist Jurisdictional Conference.

On October 24, 1986 he was united in marriage to Wilma Obermeier.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1347, Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Hall County Historical Society. Other memberships are the Saddle Club, American Legion, Masonic Lodge #33, Scottish Rite, Tehema Temple Shrine, AARP, Stuhr Museum, Kiwanis Club 1959-2005, Admiral in the Nebraska Navy, served on the Red Cross Board and the original board of the United Way.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Wilma and two sisters Verda Elliott and Marian Kalkowski both of North Platte. and four nephews and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by a sister Fern Primmer of Ainsworth and a brother Robert Morton of Fremont, NE.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.

Lorinda Catherine Ohlman
Lorinda Catherine Ohlman, 58, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday July 28, 2007 at her home in Omaha following a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. all at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Lorinda was born icon November 9, 1948 at Grand Island the daughter of Robert and Berdele (Abel) Rehder. She was raised in Grand Island graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1967. She attended Kearney State College. She was united in marriage to Bernard Ohlman on February 9, 1973. They lived in Grand Island where she worked at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island from 1978 before transferring to the VA Medical in Omaha in 2000. She was a member of both St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Grand Island and in Omaha. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting and helping people.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Bernard “Bernie” Ohlman, son and daughter-in-law Evan and Darcie Ohlman of Brookville, Ohio, half brother Marc Tjaden of Des Moines, Iowa,half sister Lynelle Johnson of Aurora, NE and two grandchildren Ian and Corinne.

Her parents and brother William “Billy” Rehder preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Central Catholic or Heartland Lutheran High School.

Stephen Paul Parsons
Stephen Paul Parsons, 49, of Grand Island, Nebraska died at his home Monday, May 21, 2007 of natural causes.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Island, NE. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Steve was born icon December 15, 1957 in Quincy, Massachusetts the son of Robert and Lorraine (Hawkins) Parsons. Steve graduated from Randolph High School in Massachusetts. He married Donna Foster July 28, 1984. From this union two children were born. He worked many years for the U.S. Post Office and Tom McCann. He moved to Grand Island in 1997 with his two children. He worked for Swift and Company for several years. He married Robin Renee Rowley on April 14, 2002.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Robin, son Justin Parsons and daughter Sheena Parsons all of Grand Island, step son Robert Patrick, Jr. of Abington, Massachusetts, brother and sister-in-law Chris and Gwen Parsons of Grand Island and a granddaughter Donna Marie Parsons.

His parents, brother’s Robert, Jr., John Parsons and his first wife Donna Marie Parsons preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Jackie Pielstick
Jackie Pielstick, 64, of Grand Island, died Sunday April 8, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverends Rob Inge and Brian Pielstick will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Jackie was born icon August 17, 1942 at Grand Island the daughter of Keith and Maxine (Davis) Ball. She was raised and received her education in Grand Island and attended business school in Lincoln. She was united in marriage to Terry Pielstick on October 28, 1977. She was a secretary for Huston and Daly Realty.

They made their home in Grand Island where Jackie served on the Grand Island City Council Ward 4 for the past 12 years, serving as council president three times. Jackie took great pride in being a representative of the people. She served on the Board of Directors of the Senior Center, Liaison for the City Downtown Development Committee, Project Extra Mile, the Problem Resolution Team, Business Improvement District #5, founding member of EAST Neighborhood Association, steering committee for Lincoln School bond issue, and board member of Go Red for Women. She was a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Terry, sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Gwen Pielstick of Grand Island and David Pielstick of Grand Island, daughters and son-in-law, Shawn Flamig of Grand Island and Nicole and Shawn Ackles of Cotesfield, NE and brothers Ron Ball of Galt, CA, Jim Radcliff of Crete, NE and grandchildren Sarah Pielstick, Hannah Pielstick, Nathan Pielstick, Bryon Flamig, Zach Dillon, Mikayla Ackles, Kilee Ackles, Cody Ackles, Cole Ackles and Chance Ackles.

She was preceded her in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Harvest Time Baptist Church.

Darrel D. Pinkston
Darrel D. Pinkston, 70, of Grand Island, died Sunday, April 1, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel.

The Reverend Onamae Waddel will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services with inurnment in the Trinity United Methodist Church Columbarium.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Darrel was born icon January 16, 1937 in Madison County, NE the son of Frank and Edith (Strong) Pinkston.

Darrel was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1955. He attended the University of NE Lincoln graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1959. He was an outstanding athlete playing football, track and baseball and playing football and baseball for the University of Nebraska. He coached and taught at Exeter, NE, Doane College and North Platte High School. He worked in the oil exploration and development in Oklahoma and Kansas.

He married Dorothy (Cookie) Reimers in 1957. Later he was united in marriage to Shelley Brandt on July 30, 1984. They resided in Oklahoma and Kansas before returning to Grand Island in 1993. Darrel worked at the Grand Island Wal-Mart.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Shelley, daughters and son-in-law Denise and Dr. Steve Rodenburg of Stillwater, MN and Caylee Pinkston of Hastings, sons and daughter-in-law Casey Quaife of Seattle, WA, Cody Quaife of Miami, FL, and Colby and Ashley Quaife of Angier, NC, his mother Edith Pinkston of Grand Island, sister and brother-in-law Joan and Dan Bennett of Midas, NV and three grandchildren Sam Rodenburg, Michelle Rodenburg and Wyatt Quaife and father and mother-in-law Kenneth and Helen Brandt.

He is a member of the Saddle Club and Trinity United Methodist Church.

His father and two daughters Deborah and Sarah preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Children’s Miracle Network or to the family.

Richard Lee "Dick" Price
Richard Lee “Dick” Price, 58, of Grand Island, died Sunday June 3, 2007 at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Dick was born icon September 12, 1948 at Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He is the son of Kenneth, Sr. and Ardella Price. Dick received his education in Grand Island where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Grand Island Public School system for 13 years retiring in 1995 due to ill health.

He coached girl’s softball for many years, enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling and was an avid football fan.

Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters and their spouses, Crystal and Chris Johnson of Cairo, Jennifer and Ore Thompson of Grand Island, a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth, Jr. and Dina Price of Grand Island, a sister, Sheri Towey of Elba, special friend, Rose Bryson of Grand Island and 6 grandchildren and an aunt and uncle, Cereta and Wayne Filkin of Grand Island.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Stanley Rafferty

Stanley N. Rafferty, 75, of Grand Island, died Monday – January 22, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Randy Fett will officiate. His ashes will be scattered on Mustang Island in Texas. There will be no visitation.

Stanley was born icon September 27, 1931 at North Platte the son of William and Alice (Glaze) Rafferty. He was raised in North Platte graduating from North Platte High School in 1949. Stanley was united in marriage to Nancy Jameson on June 4, 1949. They lived in North Platte, Denver, California before moving back to North Platte in 1963. Following his retirement for Union Pacific they moved to Grand Island in 1986. He served as the custodian at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, his yard work and sharing stories with his many friends. In honor of Stan’s life, the family requests that you do an act of kindness.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Nancy, sons and daughters-in-law, Micheal and Cynthia Rafferty of Kearney, Patrick Rafferty of Corpus Christi, TX, Kelly and Kelly Rafferty of Grand Island and a daughter Kristen Smith of Grand Island, grandchildren, Jason and Aaron Smith, Meressa Bayley, Will Rafferty, Derek and Molly Shae Rafferty, great granddaughter Rhianna Bayley, brother-in-law and his wife Benjamin and JoAnna Jameson and their children Richard and Suzanne Jameson.

Bob Rice
Bob Rice, 54, of Grand Island, died Monday June 11, 2007 at his home following a struggle with cancer.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Jeffrey Rice will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Bob was born icon June 6, 1953 at St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Robert and Phyllis (Huseth) Rice. Bob lived in Minneapolis until the age of 12 when his family moved to Grand Island where he graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1971.

He worked at Exec Air for many years and was employed at UTI of Grand Island. He was an avid reader and enjoyments included fishing, hunting and golfing.

Survivors include his mother and her friend Ray Valencia of Grand Island, brother and his wife Jeffrey and ViAnna Rice of Morrison, CO, sister and her husband Karen and Scott Nelson of Central City, NE.

Other survivors are nieces and nephews, Vanessa Malm of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Bradley Rice of Morrison, CO, Tara Frizzell of Omaha and Erik Nelson of Central City and grand niece and nephew Kayla Rice and Andrew Robert Rice.

His father preceded him in death.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Bob Rice at the Edith Abbott Memorial Library.
