Melanie S. Berlie
Melanie S. Berlie, 53, of Lincoln, formerly of Doniphan, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Doniphan United Methodist Church. The Reverend Jocelyn Tupper will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Melanie was born icon August 10, 1955 at Henderson the daughter of Bill and Marlys (French) Hayes.

Survivors are her children and their spouses, Tim Chagnon of Grand Island, Jason and Sarah Chagnon of Lincoln, James “Jamie” and Jenna Berlie of Kearney, David Berlie of Lincoln and Megan Berlie of Lincoln; her parents Bill and Marlys Hayes of Doniphan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Julie Hayes of Wood River and Bruce and Lisa Hayes of Omaha.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Lauryn, Bradyn, Makayleigh, Zoe, Alex, Macey and Miley and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was raised in Hastings graduating from Hastings High School class of 1973. She married Steve Chagnon on October 2, 1971. Steve died August 10, 1975. She then married Michael Berlie on August 28, 1976. Michael died on May 12, 1995.

Melanie lived most of her adult life in Doniphan. She spent the last few years in Lincoln where she gave of her time mentoring and counseling young troubled women. She managed the New Way Homes in Lincoln and was employed by Healthy Families Project also of Lincoln.

She enjoyed crafts but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the New Way Home of Lincoln.

Louise E Bogatz
Louise E. Bogatz, 71, of Grand Island, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Michael Reiners will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Additional service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Murdock, Nebraska. The Reverend Brent Kuhlman will officiate. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Marcy Mortuary in Ashland.

Mrs. Bogatz was born icon September 4, 1937 at Omaha the daughter of Lyman and Ella May (Kaiser) Hewett.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ray Bogatz of Wann, NE, Budd and Karen Bogatz of Murdock, NE, Steve and Joyce Bogatz of Yankton, S.D., Glen and Robin Bogatz of Central City, NE and Mike and Lindsay Bogatz of Grand Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Lonny Mittan of Alda, Kathy Warteman and fiancé Mark Phipps of Longmont, CO and Lillian and Clint Burr of Kenesaw, NE; brothers, Bobby Hewett and Gene Hewett; and a sister, Evelyn Clark.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Shane Mittan, Travis and Crystal Mittan, Amber Mittan and her fiancé Andy Wissing, Joshua and Kyle Bogatz, Melissa and Derek Ackley, Steve Charles Bogatz and fiancé Gabriell Coffin, Nolan and Megan Warteman, Danielle and Nick Burr, Kolby, Madison and Kennedy Bogatz, Kaitlyn, Ashley, MacKenzie and Emma Bogatz and great grandchildren, Caleb, Riley and Stevie Rachel Ackley and soon to be born icon baby boy Wissing.

Her parents, husband, sister, Pearl Mattes and brother, Eddie Hewett preceded her in death.

Louise was raised in south Omaha. She married “Bud” Vernon Bogatz on September 10, 1955. They lived in Omaha for several years before moving to Wann, NE in 1967. She raised her children and had various part time jobs. The family moved to the Grand Island area in 1992. Louise worked at Skagway south in the deli.

She enjoyed crafts especially crocheting.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Joseph Lennon Boye

Joseph Lennon Boye, 28, of Lakewood, Colorado, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, February 7, 2009.

Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. The Reverends Mike Neely and Galen Skinner will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Boye was born icon January 17, 1981 at York, Nebraska the son of Brett and Diana (Martin) Boye.

Survivors are his mother, Diana Boye of Grand Island; father and step mother, Brett and Patricia Boye of Duncan, NE; brothers, Gary King of Hemet, CA, Joshua Boye of San Diego, CA and Marshall Boye of Columbus, NE; and step brothers, Justin and his wife Michelle Stenger, Josh and his wife Jessica Stenger and Joey Stenger; step sister, Natasha and her husband Steve Schmeichel.

He is preceded in death by his brother Noah Boye.

Joseph grew up in Bradshaw moving to Grand Island in 1993. He graduated from Grand Island Senior, class of 1999. Joseph served his country proudly in the United States Army being honorably discharged in 2003. He served in both Iraq and Kosovo.

He was currently employed by Steve Casey’s RV as a service tech in Wheatridge, Colorado. Growing up Joseph was an avid skate boarder and was also an accomplished guitarist. His memory will be treasured by many.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mary Ann (Bunny) Carrig
Mary Ann (Bunny) Carrig, 75, of Grand Island, died Saturday May 30, 2009 at Golden Living Center Park Place.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1304 N. Custer Avenue, Grand Island. The Reverend Sheri Lodel will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carrig was born icon July 15, 1933 at Charleston, Illinois the daughter of Ivan and Eleanor (Boaz) Eggers.

Survivors are her husband Raymond Carrig; sons and daughter-in-law, Barry and Bonnie Brown of Grand Island and Bruce Brown of Grand Island; daughters, Becky Achor of Hastings and Lisa Miller of Hastings; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Richard Geist of Grand Island and brother, Perry Richeal of Aurora, Colorado.

Other survivors are twelve grandchildren, Benjamin, Dustin, Trent, Trevor, Teresa, Brent, Larry, MiKayla, Caleb, Hailee, Isayah and Noah and five wonderful great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by son, Blake Morgan Brown; daughter, Bunny Sue Brown; mother and stepfather, Eleanor and Fred Richeal; father, Ivan Eggers and brother, Ivan Richeal.

Bunny was raised in Chicago and Charleston, Illinois before moving to Elm Creek where she graduated from high school. She married Giles A. Brown, Francis Miller and later in life, Raymond Carrig.

Bunny farmed near Minden prior to moving to Grand Island in 1965 where she worked at the ordinance plant. Later she was employed by Head Start for many years and the Grand Generation Center. She received her CNA and helped many seniors with home care assistance.

Bunny was an avid reader, enjoyed cross word puzzles, Nebraska football, shuffle board, cards, bingo and gardening. She enjoyed helping others.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or Calvary Lutheran Church.

Mary Jean Chase

Mary Jean Chase, 80, of Grand Island, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, at First Presbyterian Church. Reverend Charles Olsen will officiate. Inurnment will be in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born icon May 5, 1929 at Arnold, NE, the daughter of William and Laurine (Menary) Streitwieser.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 58 years, Dr. Robert C. Chase, son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sue Chase of Clayton, CA, two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Steve Rector of Overland Park, KS and Anne and Dave Zoller of Colorado Springs, CO and a son-in-law, Mark Stark of Des Moines, IA.

Also left to cherish her memory are 9 grandchildren, Jon Rector, Kristin and Greg Stark, Laura, Rachel and Sara Chase, and Karlie, Brian and Michael Zoller.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pamela Stark and brother, Richard Streitwieser.

Mary was raised in Arnold and Broken Bow, graduating from Broken Bow High School. She received a Nursing Degree from Bishop Clarkson School of Nursing in Omaha. She was united in marriage to Robert Chase on June 10, 1951 in Broken Bow. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Omaha while they finished their schooling. They moved to St. Paul, MN for a short time before moving to Ogallala, then to Denver, CO, before settling in Grand Island.

Mary is a member of First Presbyterian Church, PEO and St. Francis Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing golf and Bridge, traveling and her volunteer work at St. Francis Medical Center. Most of all, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or The American Cancer Society.

Richard E. Clark

Richard E. Clark, 61, of Phillips, NE, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at his home.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln, NE with military honors. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

Richard was born icon July 24, 1947 in Lincoln, NE, the son of Harry and Valerie (Snyder) Williams.

Survivors are a fiancée, Kathy Tockey of Phillips; sons, Kevin Clark of Rochester, NY, Ryan Clark of Lincoln, NE, Steven Clark of Edgar, NE, Larry Schroder of Lincoln, NE and Corey Clark of KS; sisters and brother-in-law, Ernestine Barret of Lincoln, Janice and David Decker of Ulysses, NE, Cece Coulter of Lincoln, Pauline Watts of Gulf Breeze, Fl., Jean Reed of Lincoln and Nan Williams of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Patty Clark and James and Chelle Williams, all of Lincoln.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard (Ricky) and a sister, Cynthia (Kitty) Edwards.

Richard received his education in Lincoln, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1963. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Clark in 1971. He was employed as a car salesman for many years. Richard loved life. He especially enjoyed fishing and camping.

"Dick" Richard G. Decker
“Dick” Richard G. Decker, 74 of Grand Island, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. Entombment of ashes will be in the church’s columbarium.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Decker was born icon July 24, 1934 at Seward, NE the son of Francis and Luise Decker.

Survivors are his wife Jayne; children and their spouses, Marvin and Jill Decker of Cleveland, OH, Val Potter of Omaha, Barry and Robyn Decker of Grand Island and Annette and Dan Waetzig of Garden City, KS; sisters and brother-in-law, Marge and Ron Pittman of St. Paul, NE and Nancy Marsh of Doniphan.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Tina, Susan, Gary, Josh, Kasey, Amy and Auston; six great grandchildren and his yellow lab and constant companion, Doc.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Dick was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High. He married Macyle Shepherd on September 4, 1953. Later he was united in marriage to Jayne Bierman on June 25, 1977. They made their home in Grand Island where Dick began working for Swift in 1967 which later became Monfort’s. He then went to work for Supreme Foods and later Dillard’s. He owned and operated Double D Tire Hauling for over 10 years.

Dick enjoyed hunting and horseback and mule riding. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or American Heart Association.

Hope DeLeon
Hope DeLeon, 82, of Grand Island, died Thursday May 14, 2009 at St. Francis Skilled Care.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Reverend Vince Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Sunday with a Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. DeLeon was born icon October 13, 1926 at Hastings, NE the daughter of Jesus and Rosario (Herrera) Soto.

Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Tony Roman of Grand Island, Rosie and Benito Casares of Grand Island, Josie Reyes of Wood River, Tommie and Mario Martinez of Grand Island, Virgie and Steve Kuck of Grand Island, Micki and Dave Kenyon of Grand Island, Frannie and Tony Torrez of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and Lucy and Brandon Flynn of Grand Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy DeLeon of Grand Island, Pete and Colleen DeLeon of Grand Island, Joe and Marlene DeLeon of Grand Island, James DeLeon of Grand Island and Albert and Diane DeLeon of Grand Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lupe Aldana of Grand Island, Connie and Gonzalo DeLeon of La Mirada, CA, Comfort and Felipe DeLeon of Hesperia, CA and Juanita and Robert Briseno of Wood River; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Juanita Soto of Oxnard, CA, Abraham and Emily Soto of Wood River, Louis and Rey Soto of Wood River, Robert and Linda Soto of Wood River and Richard and Virginia Soto of Wood River.

Those also left to cherish her memory are many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter; nephews, nieces and many friends. Her parents; Pete DeLeon, Sr., daughter and son-in-law, Rocki and Guero Flores; son-in-law, Ruben Reyes; brother, Joseph Soto; a granddaughter and two great-granddaughters welcomed her into heaven.

Hope was raised and received her education in Hastings. She married Pete DeLeon, Sr. in 1946. They lived in Wood River and Grand Island. Hope worked as a cook at the Grand Generation Center until retiring in 1996. She is a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, cooking, Elvis and polka music, playing Aggravation, Mexican bingo and dancing. She was the family bookie for Husker football games. She so enjoyed spending time with family, especially the family Sunday get-togethers.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Hope.
