"Chuck" Charles Max Derrickson

“Chuck” Charles Max Derrickson, 84, of Grand Island died Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center. Prior to his passing he was living at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the United Congregational Church. The Reverend Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow at Shelton Cemetery with military honors provided by the Navy and United Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Cremation will take place following visitation.

Mr. Derrickson was born icon December 15, 1924, at Pleasantville, IA, the son of Charles and Myrtle (Rogers) Derrickson.

The left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marcella, children and their spouses, Kerri and Tim Wetovick of Wood River, Barb Clayton of Earlham, IA and Larry and Rulayne Derrickson of Dugway UT; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Derrickson of Earlham, IA and sister-in-law, Donna Blue of Morrison, CO.

Other survivors are eleven grandchildren, Keath, Kane, Kassandra, Denise, Kelli, Shannon, Shelly, Bobbie, Kameron, Aimee and Tiffany; eleven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bob Derrickson; a son-in-law, Roger Clayton; four sisters and four brothers.

Chuck grew up and attended school in Swan and Pleasantville, IA. He entered the Navy in 1943, serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Marcella Louise Blue on May 14, 1965 in Grand Island.

Chuck worked in rock quarries and Gehle Cooks before coming to Nebraska in 1960 while working on construction of the interstate. In 1964 he started working for The Diamond Engineering Company, from which he retired in 1990.

He was a member of the Platt Deutsch, Odd Fellows #22, the National Horseshoe Association and a 60 year member of the American legion. He loved pitching horseshoes and had played in 6 world tournaments. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working and attending his grandchildren’s sports events in Wood River.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved by all. He will be dearly missed.

Edward H. Edwards

Edwad H. Edwards, 81, of Grand Island, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. The Reverend Kris Rebentisch and Vicar Josh Leigeber will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Edwards was born icon March 23, 1928 on a family farm in Nance County the son of Chauncey and Grace (Morris) Edwards.

Survivors are his wife Elvira; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Beth Edwards of Los Angeles, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Parr of Omaha, NE and brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Phyllis Edwards of Longmont, CO and Virgil Edwards of Montrose, CO.

Those also left to cherish his memory are granddaughters, Brianna, Sophia, Ava and Zoe. His parents preceded him in death.

Ed was raised on the family farm and received his education in country schools. He attended Glendale California Junior College in 1950. He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard for six years. On December 31, 1950 he was united in marriage to Elvira Schmidt at the old Trinity Lutheran Church.

They made their home in Grand Island where Ed served as the director of the Grand Island-Hall County health department. He retired after a 38-year career there. He began working for the health department in June 1956. Prior to that, he was a meat and poultry inspector in Grand Island for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche. Ed was an avid gardener, loved wild life and bird watching. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather. His memory will be treasured by many.

Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School.

W. Robert Fagan

William Robert Fagan, 85, of Grand Island, died Friday, February 27, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. The Reverends Jack

Rademacher and James O’Kane will officiate. Entombment of ashes will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Columbarium.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born icon November 2, 1923 in Grand Island the son of William and Marie (Baker) Fagan. He grew up on the Taylor Ranch northwest of Grand Island and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1941. He was united in marriage to Darlene Puncochar on October 11, 1949 in Ord, Nebraska. They lived northwest of Grand Island where he was in the cattle business and farmed during his lifetime. He retired in 1983.

He enjoyed big game hunting, wildlife photography and the outdoors. He was active in Crane Meadows Nature Center where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #1159 and Riverside Country Club. Robert treasured the time spent with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene; sons, Don Fagan of Omaha and Tim Fagan of Cody, Wyoming and daughter, Kathy Frank of Lewistown, Montana, grandchildren, Billy Fagan, Daniel Fagan, Ryan Fagan, Alison FitzSimmons and Matt Frank. .

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Central Catholic High School or St. Francis Medical Center.

Marvin T. Fiehler

Marvin T. Fiehler, 72, of Grand Island, died Friday, January 9, 2009 at Golden Living Center at Lakeview.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21 st in the All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island, NE. Pastor Kris Rebentisch and Vicor Greg Enterline are officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at All Faiths Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Fiehler was born icon March 4, 1936 at Frohna, MO, the son of George and Oneida (Mangels) Fiehler.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter, Julie Fiehler of Central City, NE; one sister, Dorthea (Leonard) Militzer of Altenburg, MO; five brothers, Harlan and (Inez) Fiehler of Thebes, IL, George C. and (Virginia) Fiehler of Juneau, Alaska, Raymond Fiehler of St. Louis, MO, Elwin and (Jackie) Fiehler of Monrovia, CA and Edgar and (Martha) Fiehler of Jackson, MO and a brother-in-law, Ralph Fiehler of St. Charles, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Fiehler.

Marvin was raised and received his education in Missouri. He graduated from Perryville High School in Perryville, MO. He entered the United States Army on December 3, 1958 and was honorably discharged on November 17, 1960. During his life Marvin worked as a ranchhand on ranches near Broken Bow, was in construction in North Platte and worked for Oakleaf Auto Crushing in Grand Island. An important time in Marvin’s life, were the 15 years he worked for Larry Donlin with racing thoroughbreds. Marvin was of the Lutheran faith.

Rachel "Rocky" P. Flores

Rachel “Rocky” P. Flores, 57, of Grand Island died January 13, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Father Richard Pointkowski will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in La Pieda, Michocan, Mexico at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:30.

Rocky was born icon June 22, 1951, in Grand Island, the daughter of Pedro and Hope (Soto) DeLeon.

Rocky grew up in Wood River, NE, moving to Grand Island in 1966. She received her education at Grand Island Senior High.

Rocky was united in marriage to Jose Francisco “Guero” Flores, Sr., the love of her life, on November 10, 1973 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. Rocky was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rocky was employed at Dreisbach’s Steak House for 23 years. A natural florist, she was a designer at “Roses For You” for the past 10 years. She enjoyed Bingo, playing the ‘slots’, and her own version of “Aggravation”. “Mama Roc” was the rock of her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Hope DeLeon; sons, Gabriel Flores and Jose Francisco Flores, Jr.; daughters, Eva Flores and Susana Flores; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy DeLeon, Pete and Colleen DeLeon, Jr., Joseph and Marlene DeLeon, James DeLeon and Albert and Diane DeLeon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angie and Tony Roman, Rosie and “Benny” Casares, Josie Reyes, Tommie and Mario Martinez, Virgie and Steve Kuck, Micki and Dave Kenyon, Frannie and Tony Torrez, Lucy and Brandon Flynn and her beloved granddaughter, Graciela Flores.

She is preceded in death by her husband “Guero”, August 1, 1995; her father, Pete DeLeon Sr., grandparents, Rafael and Angelita DeLeon, Jesus and Rosario Soto and mother-in-law, Delfina Flores Melgoza.

Albert F. Gehle

Albert F. Gehle, 98, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Tiffany Square Center.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. The Reverend Kris Rebentisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Gehle was born icon on October 3, 1910 at Buffalo, Nebraska the son of Gustav and Anna (Holtz) Gehle.

His wife Wilma preceded him in death in 1992.

Survivors are his children and their spouses, Karen and Dr. Peter Koch-Weser of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Mary and John Perrin of Bellevue, Nebraska and Steven and Maureen Gehle of El Segundo, California.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Susan, Jennifer, Jacy, Benjamin, Michael, Mariah and Peter; and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, Margaret, Eleanor, Michael, Jacob, Lucas, Henry, Evan, Isaac, Peter and William.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, August, Walter, Rudolph and Edwin and sisters, Lulu, Adele and Hilda.

Albert was baptized into the Lutheran faith October 30, 1910 in the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo, NE by Pastor A. Dorman. He received his elementary education at Zion Lutheran School north of Shelton and Trinity Lutheran School in Grand Island. He was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church on May 24, 1925 by Pastor H. Wilkens. He graduated form Grand Island Senior High in 1929.

On September 4, 1938 he was united in marriage to Wilma C. Juilfs in Trinity Lutheran Church, by Pastor O.W. Graebner. Mrs. Gehle passed away on August 20, 1992.

He was a voting member of Trinity Lutheran congregation. He served as Treasurer, Secretary for six years, Board of Trustees six years and Board of Elders, three years. He was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Choir. He was a member of Trinity Walther League and served as president for two years, and was secretary of the State Executive Board of the Walther League for four years. He was a Charter Member of Trinity Lutheran Laymen’s League and served as Treasurer for two years and as President for two years. He was appointed Treasurer of the Trinity Lutheran Church Foundation.

After graduating form high school he worked for Roesers Grocery Store for six years. He then accepted a position as cashier for Central Power Company which in 1946 became a part of Consumers Public Power District. In 1947 he was transferred to Kearney as area storekeeper. In 1950 he returned to Grand Island to work for Kriz-Davis Company as purchasing agent. He advanced to manager of the company, retiring in 1976.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Jamie Lee Gewecke
Jamie Lee Gewecke, 24, of Grand Island, died April 27, 2009.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Following the service, burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of Jaime’s family and friends will be from 5-7 Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Jamie was born icon August 18, 1984, at Grand Island, the son of Jim and Vicki (Duncan) Gewecke.

Jamie grew up in Grand Island, attending Shoemaker Elementary and Westridge Middle Schools. He graduated from Northwest High School, class of 2001, and went on to attend Central Community College.

He was employed by Case New Holland and at the time of his death was an employee of Standard Iron, Inc. Jamie enjoyed cars and motorcycles, was a Nebraska Husker fan and liked watching movies, playing video games and cards.

Those left to cherish his memory are his father, Jim Gewecke of Wood River; his mother, Vicki Gewecke of Doniphan; a brother, Aaron Gewecke of Lincoln; grandparents, Betty Duncan and Ivan and Evelyn Gewecke, all of Grand Island; uncles and aunts, John and Mari Gewecke of Lincoln, Kim and Connie Duncan of Grand Island, Dorene and Bud Cravener of Bailey, CO, Renae Feldt of O’Neil, Tamie Duncan of O’Neil, Melody Steele of MO and Greg and Roxanne Duncan of Grand Island; numerous cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, L. Myron Duncan.

A memorial fund will be established in Jamie’s name.
