Doris R. Gibson
Doris R. Gibson, 85, of Grand Island died, Tuesday July 7, 2009 at St Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

No visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gibson was born icon February 25, 1924, in Rochester New York to Alfred and Eva (LaPlante) Rutherford.

Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and their spouses, Dale and Greg Baker of Grand Island and Terry and Ralph Robson of Spring Texas.

Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Matthew Baker and Linsey (Baker) Mettenbrink, Nathan and Hannah Robson and three great grandchildren, Ella Baker, Lucy Baker and Jack Mettenbrink.

Doris was born icon and raised in Rochester, New York, lived in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area before moving to Nebraska. She settled in Grand Island in 1978 where she was able to spend quality time with her grandchildren. In her later years she adopted her pet cat “Rocky” who was her pride and joy and constant companion the last few years.

Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert R. Gibson, two brothers and two sisters.

Robert R. Gilliam

Robert R. Gilliam, 63, of Grand Island, died Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home.

Burial of ashes will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at noon of July 2, 2009 with military honors by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard. Chaplain Norval Holtmeier will officiate.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gilliam was born icon June 1, 1946 at Omaha, NE the son of Ralph and Reva (Owns) Gilliam.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Sonya Gilliam of Lincoln; brothers and sister-in-law, Ken (Butch) and Kristin Gilliam of Gonzales, TX and Bruce Gilliam of Lincoln.

He is also survived by grandson, Connor Gilliam.

Robert was raised in Wahoo where he graduated from high school. He attended John F. Kennedy College in Wahoo. He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam from 1966-1970. He worked as a corrections officer for the Lancaster County Corrections Department in Lincoln.

Bonita (Bonnie) Louise (Brannagan) Gnadt

Bonita (Bonnie) Louise (Brannagan) Gnadt, 75, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Tiffany Square Center.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 1515 South Harrison Grand Island. The Reverend Randy Fett will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home, 2929 S. Locust Grand Island.

Bonnie was born icon on February 6, 1933 in Hastings, NE the daughter of Vern and Louise (Flessner) Brannagan. She grew up in Manhattan, KS, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1951. She attended Kansas State University studying interior decorating.

Bonnie was married to Ken Gnadt on June 1, 1952 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Manhattan. The couple made their home in Salina for the U.S. Air Force. Other areas lived were Chanute, Dodge City, Alma, all in Kansas; Ft. Worth, Tokyo and Taipei, Taiwan. They moved to Grand Island in the early 1970’s.

Bonnie was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, very active in the local Bridge groups. While living in Taiwan she published “Bonnies Bridge Basics.” She taught basic and duplicate bridge lessens to groups in Taiwan, Japan and here. Her Christmas letters were a joy to read. In several communities she did part-time work with Sears or J.C. Penny doing interior decorating. She never missed attending her kid’s activities. Family, camping, travel, bridge and friends all were her love. Bonnie was a gracious “First Lady” of Grand Island as Ken served as Mayor or 8 years.

Survivors include her husband, Ken, four sons and one daughter, Jim and Christy of Grand Island, John and Jayne of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jerry of Denver, CO, Jeff of Aurora, CO, Janet and Chris Ringel; and four grandkids, Brittany, Jordon, Eli and Chelsea of Arlington, TX; sister, Kathy and El Dean Holthus of Smith Center, KS; brother, Dennis and Sharon Brannagan of Hanover, VA and sister, Janice Hill of Manhattan, KS.

Memorials are suggested to the Stuhr Museum Foundation, Grand Island Public School Foundation or St. Pauls Lutheran Church Foundation.

Joy Gonnerman

Joy Gonnerman, 92, of Grand Island, formerly of the York area, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at Grand Island NE Veterans Home in Grand Island.

Service will be Tuesday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. in the Grand Island NE Veterans Home All Faiths Chapel. Chaplain Bill Noer will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with military honors by the North Platte Honor Guard in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE. Chaplain Bill Forbes will officiate at Maxwell.

All Faiths Funeral Home will be serving the family.

Visitation will be an hour prior to service time.

Mr. Gonnerman was born icon at Waco, NE, November 25, 1916, the only child of Jacob and Gerte (Elliot) Gonnerman.

He is survived by cousins, Robert, Gail, Tom, Gene, Roger Gonnerman, Dean Heine, Ray Kleemeyer, Ellen Irish, Ruth Keyes, Mary Loontjer & their spouses, and many other friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Joy entered the United States Army Sept. 1939 (pre-Pearl Harbor) & honorably discharged December 31, 1946, receiving 13 medals of Honor that include, American Disience, American & Asiatic Pacific Campaign, European-African Middle Eastern, WW II, Army Good Conduct, Thank You Veteran, Purple Heart, Bronze & Battle Star, Expert Infantry Combat Wreath, and Honorable Service & Honorable Discharge.

After his service to his country, Joy carried on his father’s livelihood of farming and raising cattle.

Joy loved to share his war experiences, medals, stories of his military service, as well as his life experiences. His wish was for the young people to gain respect for the sacrifices our nation’s veterans have made. He took great pride in being able to reach the younger generation and became an ambassador for intergenerational activities. He never said ‘no’ to an opportunity, and visited several elementary schools and high schools. Joy held his audiences captive as he made periods of history come alive to young people.

Joy’s passion for life and new experiences never dimmed. He wrote poetry, several of which were published. His memory will be cherished by his many friends and the staff at Grand Island NE Veterans Home.

Isaac Gustavo Gonzalez
Isaac Gustavo Gonzalez, 3 months, infant son of Raul Gustavo Gonzales and Sheena Rae (Antonio) Mendoza, died Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till noon on Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Pinedale, New Mexico. The Reverend Anita Francisco will officiate. Burial will be in the Paradise Hill Cemetery in Pinedale, New Mexico on private Navajo land.

Isaac was born icon January 7, 2009 at Grand Island.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a twin brother, Ismael Gustavo Gonzalez, brother, Isaih “Angel” Perez; sister, Bianca Mendoza; paternal grandparents, Doris Gonzalez and Candido Iraeta; and maternal grandparents, Hank Antonio and Erma Hardy.

His great grandparents, Stella Antonio, Eddie C. Jones and Margarita Aguilera preceded him in death.

"Dee" Delores K Haack
“Dee” Delores K. Haack, 77, of Grand Island, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Country House Residences.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Reverend William Pavuk will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Haack was born icon July 23, 1931 at Marysville, Kansas the daughter of Lawrence and Goldie (Foley) Terry.

Survivors are her husband, Frank Haack; children and their spouses, Cathy and Don Lichty of Parker, CO, Craig and Barbara Lewis of Grand Island, Michael and Chris Lewis of St. Charles, MO and Kurt Haack of Wichita, KS; step children and their spouses, Frank and Kate Haack of Hastings, David and Teri Haack of Columbia, MO and Avery Haack of Ft. Collins, CO; a brother, Hal Terry of Colorado Springs, CO; and sisters and a brother-in-law, Carol Fitzke of Kearney and Sharon and Jim Bennett of Grand Island.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Paul, Deidre, Terese, Sam, Mary, Peter, Betsy, Zach, Jackson, Colin and Sydney; and step-grandchildren, Jereme, Amber, Danielle and Jon.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Gene, her parents and grandchildren, Steven Lewis and Andrew Lewis.

Delores graduated from high school in Glenville, Nebraska. She received a degree from the Grand Island Business College.

In 1950 Delores was united in marriage to Gene Lewis. Mr. Lewis died in 1966. She later married Frank Haack in 1968. Delores worked her early years as a bookkeeper for the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant, as a bookkeeper for Fairmont Dairy and as a bookkeeper for Big Chief Industries. She later became a fulltime homemaker caring for her family.

She is a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Some of her enjoyments were playing cards; she belonged to an investment club and loved the horse races. She was a gifted painter; painting in oils and a China painter. She enjoyed following all of her grandkids activities and enjoyed husker football. Her memory will be treasured by her family and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Raymond D. Hagenmaster

Raymond D. Hagenmaster, 81, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at the Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home.

Private family burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hagenmaster was born icon January 3, 1928 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of Francis and Eula (Brill) Hagenmaster.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife LaVina and daughters, Judy Durning of Grand Island and Becky Bass of Grand Island, granddaughter and her husband, Heather and Troy Teets of Grand Island and their son, Nicolas Michael Teets; sisters-in-law, Florence Harvey and Joanne Campbell both of Grand Island and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Ray was raised and received his education in Dodge City. He entered the United States Army on April 25, 1946 and was honorably discharged on April 20, 1947. He was united in marriage to LaVina Campbell on March 1, 1949 at St. Paul, NE.

They made their home in Grand Island where he worked for Union Pacific Rail Road until going to work for the Grand Island Utilities Department, retiring in the early 1990’s following 38 years of service.

He is a member of the First Christian Church and the VFW. Ray was an avid reader, loved classical music and enjoyed spending time in his workshop. His kind gentle smile will be treasured by many.

Ray’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. John Wagoner, and all the staff who cared for him at St. Francis Medical Center, Tiffany Square and the Nebraska Veterans Home. Your caring ministry for Ray is greatly appreciated.

Robert V. Hansen

“Bob” Robert V. Hansen, 75 of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Commerce City, CO, died Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Central City Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island. The Father James C. Schmitt will officiate. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Riverside Cemetery at Denver, CO with Aspen Mortuary of Commerce City assisting.

Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday and one hour before service time at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Hansen was born icon August 11, 1933 at Elm Creek, NE the son of Arthur and Rosella (Palmer) Hansen.

His wife Violet died in 2002.

Survivors are a son, Tim Hansen of Grand Island; brothers, Raymond and his wife Darlene Hansen of North Platte and Carl Hansen.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Sean Hansen, Tina Bartunek, Tonya Hansen, Nathan Hansen, Philip Hansen, Travis Hansen and Sierra Hansen, eleven great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson.

In addition to his wife, his parents; sons, Arthur and Bradley; brothers, Jack and William and sisters, Pat and Phyllis preceded him in death.

Bob was raised in North Platte graduating from North Platte Senior High. He was a member of the Nebraska National Guard. On March 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Violet Ruyle at Shelton, NE.

They lived in Broken Bow, North Platte, and Grand Island before moving to Commerce City, Colorado. Bob moved back to Grand Island in 2003. He was a master mason for over 60 years. He was very active in the Eagles. In 1978 he ran for Nebraska Governor’s office.
