Jimmy L. Kamper

Jimmy L. Kamper, 69, of Grand Island, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at home following a battle with cancer.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Kris Rebentisch will officiate. Cremation will take place following service. Private family burial of ashes will be in the Cedarview Cemetery near Doniphan.

There will be a gathering of family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Kamper was born icon March 7, 1940, at St. Paul, the son of Herman and Lydia (Luebke) Kamper.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Robyn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Greg Wabs of Battle Ground, WA and Connie and Steve Beiser of Woodinville, WA; two brothers, Robert Kamper and Lyle Kamper, both of Grand Island and three sisters, Lois Crumrine of St. Paul, Evelyn James of Grand Island and Melva Jean Kamper of San Antonio, TX.

Also left to cherish his memory are four grandchildren, Ashley Wabs, Aaron Wabs, Mitchell Beiser and Brett Beiser and many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy grew up and received his education in Grand Island. He joined the U.S. Navy on January 27, 1959 and was honorably discharged on January 25, 1963.

He was united in marriage to Robyn Lilienthal on August 24, 1963 in Grand Island where the couple made their home. Jimmy was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Platt Duetsche, the American Legion Post 53 and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald Kamper and Marvin Kamper.

Memorials are suggested to the family choice family.

Barbara Jean Karle
Barbara Jean Karle, 77, of Grand Island, died on March 11, 2009 in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 14th at 10:00 AM at the All Faith’s Funeral Home, Grand Island, NE. Family will host a reception from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home on Saturday. A private family inurnment will take place at a later time.

She was born icon June 23, 1931 to Roy and Helen Maurine (Smith) Boroff in Alda.

On December 3, 1952 she married Robert Bruce “Pete” Karle. They made their home in Grand Island. Barb was employed by Hornady Manufacturing as an inspector.

Pete and Barb had one child, Christi (Glen) Grunwald, of Hutchinson, KS, 2 granddaughters, Heather Johansen Peterson, Hutchinson, KS, and Tara Johansen Murphy, Wichita, KS. Additional survivors include 3 great grandchildren, a beloved sister, Phyllis Manolidis, & numerous nieces and nephews. While her family may be small, her list of friends is endless.

Barb’s pastimes included playing cards, watching the Huskers, antiquing, traveling, & entertaining. She spent the last two years in the loving care of the Country House Residence, Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sister, Gladys Kosinski.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Mid Plains Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the funeral home.

Kansas arrangements were handled by Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson, KS.

Timothy (TK) A. Kolar

Timothy (TK) A. Kolar, 48, of Grand Island, died Monday, June 22, 2009.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Beverly Lazendorf and Pastor Daniel O’Neill will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kolar was born icon April 9, 1961 at St. Paul, NE, the son of Edward and Donna (Hinkle) Kolar.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherri; sons Brock Kolar of Kansas and Andrew Kolar of Grand Island; mother and stepfather, Donna and Ronald Kolar of Chapman; father, Edward Kolar of Central City; and sisters and brother-in-law, Tammi and Ken Mitchell of Grand Island and Traci Myers of Hastings.

Also left to cherish his memory are a granddaughter; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lauren and Duke Stevens of Grand Island; five nieces; and faithful companions, Bear and Spud.

TK grew up and began school in Chapman and graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School, class of 1979. He was united in marriage to Sherri Lynn Stevens on December 6, 2008. He was owner and operator of TK Body Shop in Grand Island.

TK was a proud member of AA and NA and on the board of Valley Hope in O’Neill, NE. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to his family.

Joyce E. Krueger
Joyce E. Krueger, 68, of Grand Island, formerly of Buena Vista, CO, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE. The Reverend Michael Reiners will officiate.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Krueger was born icon August 25, 1940 at Pocahontas, IA the daughter of Gerd and Verona (Knierim) Martens.

Her husband Charles Krueger died February 19, 2007.

Survivors are her children and their spouses, Joan and Randy Crysel of Manassas, Virginia, Robb and Angie Worley of Hastings, NE, Lisa and Don Cox of Hastings, NE, Terri Kothe of Central City, NE and Angie and Kirby Knight of Grand Island; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Gerri Martens of Owasso, OK and George and Linda Martens of Ames, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Fred Ekstrand of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Carol and Mike Lee of Middleton, Wisconsin and a sister-in-law, Ursula Schuch of Tucson, Arizona.

Other survivors are 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dean Martens.

Joyce was raised in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was baptized September 22, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran, Pocahontas, IA. She graduated form Pocahontas High School. In high school she played on the girl’s basketball team. After high school she went to Omaha School of Business.

She was united in marriage to Charles Krueger on March 19, 1988. They lived in Buena Vista, Colorado. She was a certified ski instructor at Ski Cooper near Leadville, Colorado. In Colorado, she was a member of Monarch Quilters and P.E.O. The couple moved to Grand Island in 2006.

Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church, Cristo de Cordoro or Mission Central.

"Bob" Robert Samuel Laird
‘Bob’ Robert Samuel Laird, DDS, 83, of Grand Island, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home.

Visitation will be one hour before service.

Dr. Laird was born icon August 8, 1925 at Cowles, Nebraska the son of Bruce and Mable (Buzzard) Laird.

Survivors are his wife Marilyn; children and their spouses, Linda and Mark Bumann of Grand Island, Laurie Laird of Grand Island and Douglas and Trina Laird of Omaha; and brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Tom and Glenna Laird of Marshall, Missouri.

He is also survived by step grandson, Brody. His parents, brother, William and sister, Doris preceded him in death.

Robert was raised in Blue Hill where he graduated from high school. He entered the United States Navy on November 15, 1943 serving during WWII and was honorably discharged on May 15, 1946. Following his service to his country, he attended Hastings College, then graduating from the University of Nebraska Dental School. He practiced at Auburn, NE, Loup City before coming to Grand Island.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Krikac on June 10, 1951. Robert was a member of the Nebraska Dental Association. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Special Olympics.

Velma Charlotte Larson

Velma Charlotte Larson, 93, of Hays Springs, died March 9, 2009 at Good Samaritan Home in Wood River, NE..

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs, Nebraska. The Reverend Rod Heilbrun will officiate. Burial will be in the Hays Springs Cemetery.

Chamberlain Chapel is in charge of arrangements. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

She was born icon September 2, 1915 in Gordon, NE to Charles and Carrie (Kuhler) Hetzel. She attended Gordon school from kindergarten through Gordon High School graduating as Valedictorian of her 55 member class of 1933.

From there she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. It was there she met her future husband Dale O. Larson. They were married on August 17, 1939, in Gordon, NE.

The couple made their home in Ceresco, NE where Dale was Superintendent of Schools. They made several other moves and made their lasting home in Hays Springs.

To this union three children were born, Marilynn Jean, Stephen Dale and Bruce Arthur.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hays Springs, Ruth’s Circle Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star where she was Past Worthy Matron, Mariners Dinner Club and PEO. She sang in the church choir and played in the Joy Belles for many years. In 2002 she became a 50 year member of PEO.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter and son-in-law; Marilynn and Dick Miller of Grand Island, NE, Son and daughter-in-law; Stephen and Lorna Larson of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren and their spouses, Marsha Miller of Denver, CO and Karin and Adam George of Centennial, Kansas; great grandson, Cody Stone-Miller and great granddaughter McKenna George.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Willard Hetzel, husband Dale “Bud” Larson and son Bruce Arthur Larson.

Memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church of Hays Springs or may be sent in care of Marilynn Miller, 4305 Quail Lane, Grand Island, NE. 68801.

Charlene A Lehmann

Charlene A. Lehmann, 43, of Grand Island, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

Ms. Lehmann was born icon December 20, 1965 at Hiawatha, Kansas the daughter of Charles Selman and Donna Smith.

Survivors are her son, Wesley Lehmann, Grand Island and daughter, Amanda Stephen, Aurora, NE and their father Marty Crow of Grand Island; sisters, Kim Selman and Pam Jacques both of Grand Island; and brothers, Brad Michaels of Arizona, Rex Selman and Todd Selman of Texas.

She was adopted and raised by Barbara Stephen of Arizona. Charlene received her education in Tucson, Arizona. Her adult life, she lived in Alda, Grand Island, Phillips and Aurora. Charlene was employed by Pump and Pantry, Good Samaritan Center in Wood River and Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. She was a certified nursing assistant at Hamilton Manor before becoming disabled. Charlene enjoyed gardening.

"Bob" Robert F. Luther

“Bob” Robert F. Luther, 71, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial service will be at noon on Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Reverend Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and the United Veterans Honor Guard.

At Mr. Luther’s request, cremation has taken place. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Luther was born icon August 28, 1937 to Donald and Shirley (Starkey) Luther in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Ron Fowler of Grand Island, Robyn and Tim Wysocki of St. Paul, NE; a son, Garrett Luther and his special friend Barbara Ulrich of Lincoln; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Joyce Luther of Lincoln.

Additional survivors include grandchildren, Andrew and Rylee Buettner of Oak Grove, KY, Casey Buettner of Kearney, Mark Jordan Steen and special friend Rachel of Kearney, Jarrod and Jamie Luther of Lincoln, Joey and Jaime Wysocki of St. Paul and Timothy Luther of Grand Island; two great granddaughters, Rozlyn and Reagan Buettner of Oak Grove, KY; and his fishing friend, Dwight Donahey of Grand Island.

He is preceded in death by his wife Donna on October 25, 2000 and his parents.

Robert attended Jefferson and Dodge elementary, Barr Junior High and graduated from Cairo High School in 1955. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Walton, a destroyer escort. During his tour of duty he took part in Operation Redwing which involved atomic bomb experiments in the Pacific during June of 1956. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Petty Officer 3 rd Class in 1959.

Robert joined the United States Air Force Reserve at Grand Island in October, 1961. Shortly thereafter, this unit was activated during the Cuban Missal Crisis. October, 1964 Robert was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Robert married Donna Ambroz on August 15, 1959 in Grand Island.

Bob worked at Herman Plumbing (1959-62), Sanitary Plumbing (1962-77) at which time he opened his own business, Luther Plumbing. He was a master plumber and a hard worker, often putting in 12-16 hour days to support his family. Bob worked primarily in residential plumbing and was a mainstay when the elderly of the community needed household repairs.

The Boy Scouts were especially important to Bob. He served as Scout Master for 14 years for Troop 120 and was on the Eagle Scout Committee 35 years. He earned the district merit award in 1983 and the silver beaver award in 1984. Bob also spent many enjoyable hours cooking for the scouts at Camp Augustine south of Grand Island.

His memberships include the National Association of Atomic Veterans, Sons of the American Legion Post 53, Disabled American Veterans Post 11 and the Izaak Walton League where he enjoyed cooking for many years.

Memorials are suggested to Camp Augustine or the Disabled American Veterans.
