Lori J. Olesen
Lori J. Olesen, 55, of Grand Island died on Friday, April 10, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lori was born icon October 3, 1953 at Grand Island, NE, the daughter of Neale and Carol (Liebsack) Wells.

Survivors are her husband, Roger Olesen of Grand Island; her parents, Neale and Carol Wells of Grand Island; a daughter, Misty Dent of Omaha; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Don Vigil of Colorado Springs, CO; brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Tami Wells of Omaha and sister-in-law, Viny Olesen of Grand Island.

She is also survived by several nieces.

Lori grew up in Grand Island, attending Trinity Lutheran School, Walnut Junior High and graduating from Grand Island Senior High, Class of 1971. She was united in marriage to Roger G. Olesen on August 9, 1986 in Grand Island.

Lori loved animals and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Central Nebraska Humane Society or the donor’s choice.

Raymond Ottemoeller
Raymond Ottemoeller, 88, of Grand Island, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Tiffany Square.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Del Roper will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Wiegert Cemetery.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Ottemoeller was born icon November 20, 1920 at Grand Island the son of John and Bertha (Vogel) Ottemoeller.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Lillian; son, John Ottemoeller of Lincoln, son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Doreen Ottemoeller of Bismarck, ND and daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Gordon Knuth of St. Paul, NE.

Other survivors are five grandchildren, Darla Houdek, Debora Houdek, Denise Campbell, Christopher and Benjamin Ottemoeller; and eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Jeremy and Brandon Houdek, Jesse, Casey and Danny Houdek, and Nicholas and Mathew Campbell.

His infant son Billy; parents; grandson, Brian Ottemoeller; brother, Elmer and sister, Marie Mohr preceded him in death.

Ray was born icon on a farm northeast of Grand Island. He attended School District 56 in Hall County. On October 11, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lillian Bockmann. They farmed northeast of Grand Island until moving into Grand Island in 1965. He then worked for New Holland retiring in 1985.

He is a member of the Platt Duetsche. Ray enjoyed family gatherings, was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to polka music and going for rides in the country.

Memorials are suggested to AseraCare Hospice.

Jo Ann Ottum
Jo Ann Ottum, 60, of Alda, NE died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at her home following a battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Cremation has taken place in honor of Jo’s wishes.

Mrs. Ottum was born icon December 17, 1948, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Anthony and Phyllis (Colberg) Vekich.

Those left to cherish her name are her husband, Brion Ottum; daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle Corrigan of Grand Island, Shawna and Jeff Scheider of Chicago, Tammi and Rick Gusler of Lincoln and Tarra Pickett of Lincoln; her mother, Phyllis Werner of Duluth, MN and brothers and sisters, Dennis Werner, Don Werner, Bill Werner, Jim Werner, Janice Erickson, Patricia Werner, Linda Weatherby, Kathleen Evans, Toni McIntosh and Kim McIntosh.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Derrick, Dustin, Breanna, Makayla, Hayden, Hunter, Selena and Calen; and one great-grandson, Jaycee.

She is preceded in death by her father; a sister, Jacquelyn Dietzmann and a granddaughter, Shaylynn.

Jo grew up and attended school in Duluth where she graduated from high school. She then graduated from the Grand Island Business School. On December 30, 1999 she was united in marriage to Brion Ottum. Jo enjoyed working as a bartender and cook at the White Horse.

She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Jerry Peatman

Jerry was born icon October 17, 1916 at Welda, KS, the daughter of Fred and Junie (Brown) Carnes. She was raised and received her education in Welda.

She went on to attend Pittsburg State College. Jerry taught school in Kansas for a few years before she was married. She was united in marriage to Ralph on May 29, 1944 in San Antonio. Following their marriage the couple lived in San Antonio where Ralph was stationed during WWII. While they were there, Jerry taught school. When Ralph was discharged, they moved to Mound City, where Jerry worked for the family business, Peatman Motor Chevrolet. When the business sold in 1952, the couple moved to California. They moved back to Mound City to raise their daughter. There they owned and operated a Gambles Store. Jerry was a counselor for a number of years for the Sunflower Girls State organization of Kansas. Jerry moved to Grand Island a few years ago to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

Jerry is a member of the Mound City Federated Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star. An avid card player, she was a member of Bridge groups in Mound City and Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Peatman, Jr., on March 1, 1994.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Bob Kipper of Grand Island; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kristen and Ed Scharrenberg of Grand Island, Robert and Tracy Kipper of Olathe, KS and Robin and Marcus Bryant of Corpus Christi, TX; five great grandchildren, Jordan, Colin and Logan Kipper and Conor and Cassidy Bryant; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Kissick of Long Beach, CA.

Maxine Pegg
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Mrs. Pegg was born icon May 15, 1915 at Peru, NE to John and Anna Veronica (Myers) Saduski. In 1918 the family moved to St. Paul, NE. Mrs. Pegg received her education in the St. Paul schools, graduating from St. Paul High School in 1932. After graduation, she worked as a secretary in St. Paul, Grand Island and Omaha.

On May 3, 1937, she married Robert Pegg of Grand Island, where they made their home.

Mrs. Pegg enjoyed music, dancing, traveling and was an avid reader. She was a long-time volunteer at Stuhr Museum, the Bloodmobile and St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Memorials are suggested to the church, Stuhr Museum or the Grand Island Public Library.

She is survived by a son David of Santa Clara, CA, three grandchildren: Lisa of Los Gatos, CA, Holly and Trevor, and a great-granddaughter Leah, all of San Jose, CA.

Joni Pokorney

Joni Pokorney, 52, of Grand Island, died Saturday, February 21, 2009.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pokorney was born icon August 22, 1956 at Aurora, NE the daughter of “Bud” Huebert and Barbara (Dolph) Ortegren.

Her husband Randy preceded her in death on May 30, 2008.

Survivors are her daughter, Amanda Pokorney of Grand Island; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Rich Holmes of Aurora, NE and her mother-in-law, Marlea Pokorney of Grand Island.

Other survivors are nephews, Taylor, Kyle, Matt and Cheney and special cousins, Mike and Julie Pokorney of Doniphan and their children, Amber and Sara.

In addition to her husband, her parents and her step mother, Mildred Ortegren preceded her in death.

Joni was raised in Marquette where she graduated from high school in 1974. She was united in marriage to Randall Mark Pokorney on April 23, 1977 at Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island. Joni worked for Chief Automotive, Diamond Plastics and Mid Plains Behavioral Services until staying at home for many years.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, decorating and her dog Baxter.

A memorial fund will be established in her memory.

Ruby F. Roberts

Ruby F. Roberts, 97, of Grand Island, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Golden Living Center at Lakeview.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before service time.

Mrs. Roberts was born icon November 22, 1911 at Yeovil, England the daughter of Fredrick and Lydia (Hatcher) Samway.

Her husband Virgil died March 1, 1984.

Survivors are sisters-in-law, Evelyn Samway and Caroljean Samway both of Grand Island.

Other survivors are nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband she is preceded by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Gary Coe; a sister, Hilda Whitefoot Minor; and brothers, Fred Samway and Jerry Samway.

Ruby moved to the United States when she was 3 years old with her family, settling in Kearney. She graduated from Kearney High School.

She was united in marriage to Virgil Roberts. They retired in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a member of the Presbyterian faith.

Memorials are suggested to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Larry E. Royle
Larry E. Royle, 70, of Grand Island, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Larry was born icon March 20, 1939 on the family farm in Sherman County, the son of Bernard and Marie (Hansen) Royle.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cecilia; his children and their spouses, Mike and Susan Royle of Central City, Greg and Sandy Royle of Central City, Nanette and Anthony Lewis of Buckeye, AZ and Tina Royle of Grand Island; his twin brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Joyce Royle of Lexington, NE and sister-in-law, Lois Royle of Lexington, NE.

Also left to cherish his memory are ten grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Steve Hruby of Hordville and David Hruby of Acne, WA, sister-in-law, Madelyn Hruby of Omaha and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Milan Royle.

Larry grew up on the family farm near Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1957. On April 20, 1970, he was united in marriage to Cecilia Hruby. The couple made their home in Grand Island. Larry was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance for 17 years and an agent for Allstate Insurance Company for 25 years. He retired in 1999.

He loved to refurbish older homes and rental properties. As a master woodcarver, he built cabinets and furniture. Larry enjoyed buying and selling antiques, gambling at the casinos, and was known to tell a great story.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
