William L. Ruth

William L. Ruth of Grand Island, formerly of Plainview, died Monday, June 22, 2009 at home.

Memorial celebration will be 4 p.m. Saturday, at the VFW in Norfolk, NE on 4 th and Braasch. To honor Mr. Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ruth was born icon March 19, 1942 at Yreka, CA the son of William Wallace and Eunice Pearl (Harris) Ruth.

Survivors are his wife, Judith; children and their spouses, Shannon and Bobby Dukes of New Caney, TX, Rick and Kim Ruth of Norfolk, NE, Julie and Ray Meyer of Omaha and Jeremy and Danesta Ruth of Grand Island; and sister and brother-in-law, Laurita and Wayne Maynard of Eugene, OR.

Other survivors are grandchildren, DeVin, Darren, Travis, Alexandra, Gabrielle, Dalton, Stacey, Haille, Hannah and Keegan.

Bill was raised and received his education in the Veneta, Oregon area. He served in the United States Navy being honorably discharged on October 18, 1962. He married Judith Jessen on December 9, 1967.

They lived in Plainview where he worked for N and B Gas as a truck driver for 26 years. He also was a hog farmer. Later he became an over the road truck driver for 8 years.

Bill enjoyed snowmobiling, playing fast pitch softball and participated in league bowling and 8 ball pool, but most of all, spending time with his grandkids.

His parents and step brother, Rayburn Kincaid preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Francis J. Ryan

Francis J. Ryan, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Lebanon, KS, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at A Golden Living Center Park Place in Grand Island.

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Don Voorhees with St. Francis Hospice will officiate. In honor of Mr. Ryan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Ryan was born icon May 18, 1929 in Watseka, IL, the son of John and Alice (Carly) Ryan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter and her husband, Nancy and Facundo Toledo of Grand Island; three sons, John Ryan and special friend Brenda Wells of Hastings, Roy Ryan and special friend Judy Wade of Upland, NE, and Scott Ryan and his wife Alma of Minden, NE.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Samantha, Morgan, Amanda, Sara, Amelia and Stefanee; and a niece, Donna Kay Alagretti.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sara Jean in 1992; five brothers and a sister.

Francis grew up and attended school at Watseka, IL. He was united in marriage to Sara Jean McHale in 1971. After traveling throughout Mexico and the United States, Francis and Jean settled in Lebanon, KS.

There was nothing that Francis was not afraid to try. He was a driller in the oil fields, built custom homes, was Sheriff in Colorado, raised horses, refinished and sold antiques, and much more.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason, belonged to the Scottish Rite and was a member of Eastern Star.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

"Porky" Robert C. Scheel
“Porky” Robert C. Scheel, 76, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Home in Wood River.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverends Jerry Quandt and Darrell Holzinger will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Bowen Cemetery at Red Bird, MO.

Mr. Scheel was born icon April 17, 1932 at Red Bird, Missouri the son of Gustave and Arvy (Sewell) Scheel.

Survivors are his children and their spouses, Bob Scheel of Hastings, Walter “Moe” and Connie Scheel of Grand Island and Cathy and Joseph Cochnar of Grand Island and a sister, Laura Cautrell of Lincoln.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, Jennifer, Mollie, Katie, Kelsie, Christopher and Kayla and great-granddaughter, Aleigh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Norma, and a son, Randall.

Robert was raised and received his education in the Red Bird, MO area. He entered the United States Army, serving from 1952-1954. He was united in marriage to Mildred Stover and moving to Grand Island in 1979.

Robert was a professional truck driver. He was an accomplished guitar player.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.

Shirley Ann Schroder

Shirley Ann Schroder, 73, of Grand Island, died Friday, February 27, 2009 at St. Francis Skilled Care.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schroder was born icon December 25, 1935 at Grand Island the daughter of Louis and Ethel (Hanson) Rauert.

Survivors are her husband Robert; sons and daughter-in-laws, Bruce and Laura Schroder of Grand Island, Neal and Sondra Schroder of Grand Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Daniel Johnson of Broken Bow and Pamela and Bob Peters of Loup City.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Eric Johnson, Matt Peters, Lea Martin, Robbie Johnson, Lacy Hellwege, Adam Schroder, Chelsey Schroder, Tessa Schroder and Tjaden Schroder and twelve great grandchildren.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Shirley was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1953. She was united in marriage to Robert Schroder on November 15, 1953 at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island, Dannebrog, Sherman Lake and then back to Grand Island.

She worked at Ace Hardware and later retired from Wheelers. Shirley loved antiquing and watching old black and white movies. Mostly, she loved being with her family and caring for them.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and donor’s choice or to the family.

Pauline L. Schroeder
Pauline L. Schroeder, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of Amherst, died Tuesday, June 09, 2009 at Golden Living Center at Park Place.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schroeder was born icon February 9, 1924 at Kearney, NE the daughter of Harold and Mary Margaret (Devall) Kerwood. Following the death of her mother, she was adopted by John and Jessie (Devall) Gustafson as an infant.

Survivors are her husband Eli; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Carol Schroeder of Broomfield, CO and Dale and Viola Schroeder of Spearfish, SD; and daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Tom Tambling of Grand Island.

Other survivors are 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Pauline was raised in Shelton graduating from Shelton High School, class of 1941. She was united in marriage to Eli Schroeder on December 16, 1941. They lived in the Wood River area, Holdrege and Amherst areas. They moved to Grand Island in 2005.

Together with her husband they farmed their entire married life. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed polka music. She took great pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Herman Schuett
Herman Schuett, 77, of rural Chapman was called to the Lord's home from his family farm, Sunday, March 8, 2009.

Services will be 10:30 AM on Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. Reverend Craig Niemeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Mr. Schuett was born icon April 3, 1931 on the family farm in rural Chapman, the son of Henry and Bertha (Kruse) Schuett.

His life and memory will be cherished by his wife, Ilene; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kenyon Schuett of Raleigh Durham, North Carolina and Roger and Sally (Hircock) Schuett of Chapman; a sister, Irene Alder of Grand Island; and a brother Harold Schuett of Mexia, Texas, along with many family, friends, and acquaintances who loved him dearly.

He is joined in Heaven with his parents and a brother, Herbert Schuett, all of whom preceded him in death.

Herman was raised on the family farm. He attended country grade school, 8th grade at Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1948. He was united in marriage to his soul mate and best friend, Ellen Ilene Holtzen, on April 17, 1966. They shared a lifetime of love and happiness on the family farm.

He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church at Worms and always looked forward to church gatherings to visit with friends and neighbors. He was currently serving his third term on the Merrick County Board of Supervisors where he previously chaired the Board and was involved with many community committees. Some of his many other involvements were the Nebraska Cooperative Extension Board, the Bader Park Peer Group, the Vieregg Township Board, FSA Committee member, and lifetime member of the Farmer's Union. Herman was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about making his community a better place. Herman was known for seeing the good in everyone and everything. Herman's smile always left everyone at ease.

First and foremost, Herman carried deep Faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, and our Savior, which guided him in being a loving husband, proud father, and caring steward of the land. He loved farm life where he reaped the rewards of hard work by carefully tilling the Spring soil, planting seeds, praying for good weather and patiently waiting for each bountiful Fall harvest.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Herman.

Condolences may be sent to Ilene Schuett in Chapman.

"Rob" Robert K. Singletary

“Rob” Robert K. Singletary, 33, of Moyock, North Carolina, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at a hospital in Richmond, VA from a sudden illness.

Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Daniel Bremer will officiate.

Mr. Singletary was born icon February 11, 1975 in Grand Island the son of Robert and Betty Singletary.

Survivors are is his wife Dara (Williams) Singletary; daughters, Skylar and Sienna; parents Judy Kraft and Richard Kraft both of Grand Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Max Rodriguez of Grand Island, Gene and Bart Koch of Cozad, Sheri Singletary of Elm Creek, Tonya and Felix Rodriguez of Grand Island and Tammy and Allen Wilshusen of Hebron; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Traci Kraft and Randy and Sandra Kraft all of Grand Island; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Louise Williams of Grand Island and sister-in-law, Rachel Williams of Grand Island.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his constant companion since 1995, their border collie, Kennedy. His brother Greg Kraft, birth mother Betty (Smith) Singletary and grandparents, Raymond and Mildred Smith preceded him in death.

Rob attended elementary school at Lincoln and Westlawn, then went to Walnut Junior High, and graduated in 1993 from GISH. He was active in debate and cross country. He worked at Skate Island for many years and was a champion speed skater.

He joined the US Navy in 1993. Following “A” School he was assigned to the USS Arkansas (CGN 41), where his primary responsibility was to track, identify and report all air contacts utilizing own ship’s RADAR sensors as well as exchange information with other ship’s utilizing various Tactical Data Information Links. While stationed aboard USS Arkansas, Rob deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1994, again in 1996, and was promoted to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer.

Following the de-commissioning of USS Arkansas, Rob went to Air Intercept Control School in San Diego and was assigned to USS Princeton (CG-59), where he was a tactical air controller for the F-18s flying from the deck of aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70). While stationed aboard USS Princeton, Rob deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1998, and was promoted to the rank of First Class Petty Officer.

Following his sea tour in USS Princeton, Rob was assigned as an instructor at Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific, San Diego. He was the lead instructor in the office of Tactical Data Information Links, and while there was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was then moved with his ship, the USS Arkansas, to Bremerton, Washington (1995-1997). Next he moved to San Diego and was an instructor for the Navy. He joined the USS Princeton in 1999. While on the USS Princeton, he became an intercept controller. After 8 years of active duty, he honorably discharged as an OS1 (SW) and went to work as a government contractor in the private sector. This ultimately moved him to Virginia Beach, VA. He loved to ride ships, being on the open water, and had a great love for the service.

In 1995, he married Dara (Williams) Singletary, his junior high/high school sweetheart. Together they shared an amazing life with great friends and many adventures. They loved to go snow skiing, boating and camping. In 2003 they built a house in Moyock, North Carolina. In 2004, his first daughter was born, Skylar Louise Singletary. He adored her and spent many nights on her bedroom floor with her just watching her sleep. In 2007, his daughter Sienna Ruth Singletary was born. He was an amazing father and husband and always looked out for their well-being ahead of his own.

His favorite past times were watching Nebraska football, riding his Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, taking his boat out and just enjoying the open water, and teaching and watching his girls grow. He had an amazing mind for American and military history.

He will be dearly missed and loved as we know it was time for him to go home and have eternal peace. But, he will never be forgotten as he touched so many lives in his short one.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Rob Singletary daughter’s memorial fund.
