Michael Christopher Sliva

Michael Christopher Sliva, 38, of Eau Claire, found peace with God on July 13, 2009.

He was born icon June 10, 1971, the son of Bob and Nancy (Sorahan) Sliva in Grand Island, NE. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Grand Island. He went on to attend Kearney State, Wayne State, and Hastings College, all in Nebraska.

Mike married Cara Ann Schmitz on July 25, 1998, in Eau Claire at the Atrium Bed & Breakfast.

He worked for Menards, Inc. in Eau Claire and Secluded Land Company in Barron, WI. He also worked as a construction manager for Auth Consulting in Menomonie, T & J Construction, and Piedmont Masonry in Charlotte, NE. Most recently he worked in sales at Northwest Enterprises in Eau Claire.

Among his many hobbies, were golfing with his dogs, canoeing, and ATVing. He had a passion for being meticulous for the cleanliness of his vehicles. Mike had a soft heart for helping other people. He always had a ready smile, a witty comment, and a charismatic spirit.

Mike is survived by his wife, Cara; parents, Bob and Nancy Sliva of Grand Island, NE; three brothers, Jeff (Stacey) Sliva of Grand Island, NE, Tim (Becky) Sliva of Appleton, WI, Gavin Sliva of Grand Island, NE; five nephews, Kolton, Brody, and Sean Sliva, all of Grand Island, NE, Matthew (Dallas) Zimbelman of Lexington, NE, and Mitchell Zimbelman of Archer, NE; a niece, Jessica Zimbelman of Grand Island, NE; aunts and uncles; by father & mother –in-law, Floyd and Virginia Schmitz of Oakes, ND; two brothers-in-law, Steve (Suzanne) Schmitz of Maypearl, TX, and Mark (Becca) Schmitz of Devils Lake, ND; and sister-in-law, Brenda (Jim) Zimbelman of Archer, NE.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Lila Sorahan, Phil and Geraldine Sliva, and by a special grandpa, Bob; and by his three uncles, infant Michael P. Sorahan, Michael S. Sorahan, and Timothy Sorahan.

Memorial Services in Eau Claire will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church, 2112 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, with the Rev. Erik G. Nielsen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church. Memorial services in Grand Island will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 at All Faiths Funeral Home, 2929 S. Locust St., Grand Island, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home Saturday. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services of Eau Claire, WI & All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.

Irvin G. Stolley
Irvin G. Stolley, 83, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Golden Living Center Park Place.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors by the Navy and United Veterans Honor Guard.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4-7 Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Stolley was born icon February 9, 1926 in Hall County the son of Frederick and Florence (Vieth) Stolley.

Survivors are his wife, Marilyn; children, Linda Sands of Grand Island, Todd Stolley of Johnson Lake and Terri Brixius of Grand Island.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Jason Sands, Mark Sands, Aaron Sands, Kayla Brixius and Josh Brixius; great-grandchildren, Haylee Sands, Micah Sands and Claire Sands.

Irvin was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High. He entered the United States Navy in 1944, serving during WWII and honorably discharged in 1946. On December 7, 1946 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Kriz. They made their home in Grand Island where they owned and operated Florence’s Tavern.

He is a member of the Platt-Duetsche and the Doniphan American Legion. Irvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, bowling and coached little league.

His parents and brother, Freddy preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Esther M. Stull

Esther M. Stull, 97, of Grand Island, died Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Golden Living Center at Park Place.

Private family burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Esther was born icon May 26, 1911 at Hamilton County the daughter of Fred and Ida (Brondel) Mogensen.

Survivors are her children, Shirley and her husband Wade Garrett of Grand Island, Carol Gordon of Grand Island and Keith Mogensen of Oklahoma.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Susan Owens, David Garrett, Robert Garrett and Paul Garrett; great grandchildren, Melissa Kerr, CeAnna Owens, Devin, Kayla, Valentina, Seth and Gillian Garrett; two cousins, Berdina Ficken and Bernice Dobberstein and a niece, Judy Kelly.

Esther was raised on a family farm in Hamilton County receiving her education at a country Lutheran school near Hampton. She married Charley Gordon in 1932 and later married Johnny Stull.

She moved to California in the late 1950’s moving back to Bradshaw in 1987 and later to Grand Island. Esther enjoyed doing craft’s.

Memorials are suggested to the Adult Day Care of the Grand Generation Center.

"Connie" Constance C. Titman

“Connie” Constance C. Titman, 87, of Grand Island, died July 10, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Mrs. Titman’s body has been donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska. To honor Connie’s wishes here will be no visitation or service. Her ashes will be buried at a later date in the Stella, Nebraska Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Titman was born icon on August 6, 1921, at Richardson County, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph S. and Mabel (Chism) Robinson.

Survivors include one son, Charles Bryan Titman of Aranas Pass, Texas and daughter, Darlene Faye Honeycutt of Grand Island and brother, Lawrence Robinson of Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Gaylene Puckett and step mother Elsie Robinson.

She was raised and received her education in the Stella, Nebraska area. Connie was employed at Driesbach’s for 48 years, retiring in 1995. She was also a homemaker and mother.

Connie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, prayer shawl ministry at the church, Grand Island China Painters, Eastern Star, and Daughter of the Nile, Daughters of the American Revolution, Chartered 3rd Chapter of the Nebraska Ostomy Association of Grand Island in 1970 and a member of the Central Nebraska Ostomy Association.

Mary V. Trejo
Mary V. Trejo, 73, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at St. Francis Skilled Care surrounded by her family.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Reverend Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday with a parish Rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Vince Parsons will lead the Rosary.

Mrs. Trejo was born icon May 14, 1935, at Horton, Kansas, to Ventura and Tomasa Valdez. She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Trejo.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband Juan; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Felicitas ‘Fela’ Trejo and her friend Crispin Ciprian of Grand Island, Eva and Antelmo Sanchez of Kearney, Enedina ‘Nina’ and Leon Baker of Blytheville, Arkansas, C. Sabina and Arturo Chavez of Sutton and Anita M. Rodriguez of Grand Island; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Juan Jr. and Danon Trejo of Hollister, MO, Gilberto and Terri Trejo of Wood River and Thomas ‘Tommy’ Trejo of Grand Island; and four brothers and a sister-in-law, Ignasio ‘Nacho’ Valdez, Jess Valdez, both of Grand Island, Nato Valdez of Chicago and Ben and Emily Valdez of Omaha.

Additional survivors include 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and one due any day.

Mary Valdez and Juan Trejo were united in marriage on May 30, 1952, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. Mary lived in Corpus Christi, Texas from 1953 to 1959, while her husband served in Korea in the United States Army. In 1959, they moved back to Grand Island where they raised their eight children. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Augustine T. Trejo and a great-granddaughter, Geneva Liberato.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Elaine Underkofler
Elaine Underkofler, 96, of Grand Island, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Tiffany Square Center.

Private family services will be held at a later date with her ashes entombed in the Trinity United Methodist Church Columbarium.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Underkofler was born icon October 27, 1912 at Gooding, Idaho the daughter of Samuel and Ruth (Bolton) Chaney.

Her husband Bill Underkofler preceded her in death in 1997.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Larry Rutar of Grand Island.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Jennifer DeLaet and Jacy Bruno.

Elaine was raised in Idaho, Oregon and Washington graduating from high school in Spokane, Washington in 1929. She received a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University. She moved to Olympia, WA where she worked for Washington Department of Education. Later she was employed for the Federal Government. She also taught school at Modesto California State College.

She was united in marriage to Bill Underkofler on July 24, 1939 in California. They moved to Boise, Idaho in 1952 before coming to Grand Island in 1979.

Elaine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school for many years and serving on the church’s education committee. She enjoyed music, reading and spending time with family.

In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Helen Tracy, brother, Sam Chaney, Jr. and daughter Merry Stewart.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Boise State University Scholarship Fund.

David R. Valencia

David R. Valencia, 49, of Grand Island died unexpectedly Sunday, July 12, 2009.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Jeffrey Rice will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Valencia was born icon January 29, 1960 in Junction City, KS, the son of Ray Valencia and Ella (Britt) Grasso.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Ella Grasso and father, Ray Valencia and his special friend, Phyllis Rice, all of Grand Island; three brothers and their spouses, Mark Valencia of Kansas City, MO, Bryan and Sharee Valencia of The Woodlands, TX and Adam and Tami Valencia also of The Woodlands; and a sister and her husband, Rebecca and Nick Maggiore of Renton, WA.

Other survivors include twelve nieces and nephews, Morgan, Josiah, Joseph, Jackson, Reid, Riley, Abby, Evan, Katie, Georgia, Anisa and Ethan; and his faithful companion, Speckles.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents.

David grew up and attended school at Junction City. He moved to Grand Island in 1976 attending Grand Island Senior High for his senior year and graduated, Class of 1977.

He has been employed for many years by Fed Ex, owning and operating several Fed Ex routes. David was a great boss and good to his employees.

He enjoyed playing cards with friends, fishing, and cooking out with his friends and family. He will be remembered as a fun loving guy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Central NE Humane Society.
