Gabrielle L. Ayala

Gabrielle L. Ayala, 21 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. Reverend Jonathan Sorensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Ms. Ayala was born icon August 1, 1990 at Scottsbluff, NE the daughter of Efrain and Lluliana ‘Yuli’ (Robles) Ayala.

Survivors include her parents, Efrain and Yuli Ayala of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Efrain and Amanda Ayala of New London, Wisconsin; sister, Bianca Ayala of Lexington, NE; special friend, Jake Henn of Genoa and niece, Penelope, Ayala.

Gabby was welcomed into heaven by grandparents, Ventura Robles and Jesus and Elena Ayala.

Gabby moved with her family to Grand Island when she was six and she attended Dodge, Barr and graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 2008. She played catcher for GISH Softball and was a forward on the GISH Soccer Team. She went on to play softball at Wayne State College and was currently a senior at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

With Gabby’s love of children she worked at the Children’s Center on Kearney’s campus and worked at St. Pauls Christian Childcare in Grand Island.

Gabby loved sports and enjoyed staying active including bike riding and long-boarding.

She loved music and most of all, she loved spending time with her family especially her niece, Penelope. Her memory will be treasured by many.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Gabby.

Earl 'Tiny' Keith Barnes

Earl ‘Tiny’ Keith Barnes, 93, of Grand Island died Monday, January 30, 2012 at his home.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at All Faiths funeral Home.

There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Barnes was born icon August 17, 1918, at Doniphan, Nebraska, the son of Guy Barnes and Gertrude (Gorin) Barnes.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Rick Mullen of Grand Island; three grandchildren and their spouses, Latosha and Keith of Grand Island, Kaleena and Brian of Omahaand Tayler Mullen of Grand Island; and six great grandchildren, Aniya, Jordan, Micah, Madalyn, Malaiya and Maycee.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Jean (Ellis) Barnes, his parents; one sister; five brothers; and a special friend Geraldine Billington.

Earl grew up in Doniphan. He graduated from Doniphan High School and soon after joined the Army. He served during World War II from February of 1941 to September of 1945.

He married Jean Ellis on November, 20 1946 and they made their home in Grand Island.

Earl enjoyed various employment before becoming the owner and operator of Barnes Construction in Grand Island with his brothers.

Earl enjoyed playing pool and was part of the Nathan Detroit’s old timer’s pool club. He was also an avid Husker fan, gardener, bowler, horse shoe player and fisherman. He enjoyed the fishing trips he took to Canada and his cabin on Lake McConaughy.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Ruth A. Pfeiffer Bernichon

Ruth A. Pfeiffer Bernichon, 83, of Grand Island, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Saint Francis Medical Center with her family at her side.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Reverend Sylvia High Karlsson will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Ruth was born icon January 31, 1929, at Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Rudolph and Francis (Young) Kuester.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Dr. W R ‘Russ’ (Kathy Ann) Christenson of Overland Park, KS, Mark ‘Randy’ (Deb) Christenson of Omaha and Eric ‘Rudy’ (Cindy) Christenson of Hastings.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jason, Carly, Molly, Lori, Stephanie, Erica (Trevor) May, Charnel and Charlie; three great-grandchildren, Catherine Keith, Preston Keith and Colden Christenson-Pope; cousin, Mary Reitan; many dear friends and her faithful four-legged companion, Angel.

Ruth graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1947. She attended and received her teaching degree from Stephens College in Columbia Missouri, after which she taught in Fremont and Grand Island.

She married Ware R. Christenson in 1949 in Grand Island. Ruth was widowed four times. She was also married to Gerald Buechler, Kenneth L. Pfeiffer and John D. Bernichan.

Ruth worked as a model during her college years. Her love of animals got her involved with horses and she was Grand Island’s first Rodeo Queen. She was also the first Burwell Rodeo Queen chosen outside of the Burwell area. Ruth was a volunteer for Goodwill, Grand Island Veterans and Saint Francis Hospital. She belonged to the First and Third Wednesday Book Clubs and the Kuester Lake Birthday Club.

Ruth was a member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and member of the Mary Circle. She was a member of Hall County Historical Society, Hall County Election Absentee Ballot Board, St. Francis Auxiliary, Senior High Alumnae Assoc., NE Prairie Angels, Angels of the World, Inc., Angel Collectors Club of America, American Cut Glass Assoc., Riverside, the YWCA and Charter member of the Grand Island Saddle Club.

Ruth was the granddaughter of Richard M. Kuester, the founder of Kuester Lake. Her life was full and varied. She was proud of the time she had presented a saddle , compliments of the Grand Island Saddle Club, to President Harry Truman. She had traveled all 48 contiguous states in a motor home and also wintered in Winter Haven, TX. Ruth was an avid Bridge Player. She will be remembered for her graciousness and class.

Memorials are suggested to Central Nebraska Humane Society.

Mary Virginia Blair

Mary Virginia Blair, 82, of Grand Island died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Tiffany Square.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Todd Philipsen will officiate. To honor Mary’s wishes, cremation will take place following the Rosary. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Sacrament. Rosary will be 5:00 p.m. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mary was born icon January 7, 1930, at Biloxi, Mississippi, the daughter of Sigsby and Leona (Dismuke) Stokes.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bonnard ‘Bon’; four children, David Blair of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Robert Blair of Grand Island, Darlene Herrold (Dorson Sawyers) of Grand Island and Timothy Blair (Sue Behrle) of Grand Island; and a sister, Brenda Stokes of Biloxi.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, Nathan, Johnathan, Taylor, Ethan and Emma; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Evelyn.

Mary grew up and received her education in Biloxi, graduating from Biloxi High School, Class of 1947. She was united in marriage to Bonnard H. Blair on February 18, 1950 in Biloxi. Following their marriage the couple lived in various places in the United States, since Bon served in the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Grand Island in 1969.

Mary was employed at Skagway, Kmart and Lakeview Nursing Center.

Mary was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her enjoyments included bowling, playing bingo, Husker football and pepperoni pizza.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or the family.

Pamela 'Pam' S. Boersen

Pamela ‘Pam’ S. Boersen, 58, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Lakeview Golden Living Center.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Pam was born icon December 9, 1953, at Grand Island, NE, the daughter of Norman and Barbara (Shottenkirk) Behring. She grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1971. Pam worked for Triad Fasteners for many years in Alda. She retired due to her health.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and she loved gardening, sewing, and her cats.

Those left to cherish her memory include brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Betty Behring of Colby, KS and Matt and Paula Behring of Chapman; and a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Tom Singkofer of Hastings.

She is also survived by her special caretakers, John and Lynette Boersen and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gary; and a sister, Lenora.

Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of the United States.

Berdett 'Bert' B. Boice

Berdett ‘Bert’ B. Boice, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of Juniata, died Monday, January 30, 2012 at his home.

Service will be 2:00 p.m., February 3, 2012, at All Faiths funeral Home.

There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to service time. Burial of Ashes will be in the Juniata Cemetery.

Mr. Boice was born icon March 19, 1923, at Shickley, Nebraska, the son of George and Martha (Schrock) Boice.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 50 years, Thelma; daughter Linda (Sam Pearse) Wintermute of Kearney; two grandchildren, John (Laurie) Wintermute and Merlin (Hope) Wintermute, both of Grand island.

Those also left to cherish his memory are two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; three brothers in law; and one sister in law.

Bert grew up near the Shickley-Geneva area. He graduated from Shickley High School and soon after joined the Army. He served during World War II from February of 1943 to December of 1945.

He married Thelma Grob on August, 12 1957 and they made their home in Shickley.

Bert worked for the Dutton-Lainson Corporation of Hastings where he was a Painters Assistant.

He was a former member of the American Legion of Juniata and the VFW and American Legion of Geneva.

Bert enjoyed sports and was an avid sportsman when he was younger, playing baseball and softball. He also loved card games, especially cribbage, pinochle, and pitch and solitaire. Bert also liked to camp and fish, and he was also a devoted Husker and San Francisco 49ers Fan.
