Carolyn May 'Carol' Foster

Carolyn May ‘Carol’ Foster, 63, of Grand Island, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Wood River Good Samaritan Society.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Steve Shanno will officiate.

The family is honoring her wish for cremation.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Carol was born icon October 1, 1948 at Lexington, the daughter of Alvin and Marjorie (Newton) Parsons.

Her husband, James ‘Jim’ Foster preceded her in death on January 26, 2010.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Ryan Foster and his wife, Amber of Doniphan and Jennifer Foster of Gardner, Kansas and brothers, David (Mary) Parsons of Schuyler, NE, George (Donna) Parsons of Lake Placid, FL and Jerry (Laura) Parsons of Aurora, CO.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Xander, Christopher and Ryker Foster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Diane Kay.

Carol grew up in New Mexico and Texas, returning to Nebraska in the seventh grade. She graduated from Aurora High School with the class of 1967.

Carol was united in marriage to James Foster on January 12, 1968. They made their home in rural Doniphan. Carol’s role as a rural wife and mother was very important to her. She was employed by Skagway for 10 years and also worked for HyVee. For several years she was very active in TOPs. Her enjoyments included reading, cards and Husker Football.

She will be remembered for her love for her family and the amazing ‘Christmas’ she would put together. The family requests that those coming to Carol’s service would wear something pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center.

(Lou) Louis Bolles

(Lou) Louis Bolles, 79, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors by his grandson’s honor guard and the United Veterans Honor Guard.

Lou was born icon on September 8, 1931, in Wood River, the son of Francis and Alice (Ooley) Bolles.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Norma; children and their spouses, Robyn and Cal Splattstoesser of Grand Island, Laurie and Paul Dunning of La Vista, Kevin and Julie Splattstoesser of Alda, Roger Splattstoesser of Grand Island, and Jeff and Dawn Splattstoesser of Grand Island; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard and Ruth Bolles of Carson City, NV, Randall and Barbara Bolles of Kansas City, MO, Larry Bolles of Grand Island, Garry and Pauline Bolles of Grand Island, and Dwight and Sandy Bolles of Grand Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nita Ruzicka of Grand Island, Nina Woodruff of Gilbert, AZ, and Linda and Kenny Lauritsen of Dannebrog.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Travis, Troy, Phillip, Kristina, Deidre, Farah, Josh, Luke, Logan, Isac, Noah, Casey, Cody, Kellee, Meghan, Amie and Sarah, and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma; a son, Rodney Bolles on July 4, 2010; brother, Doug Bolles and daughter-in-law, Lana Bolles.

Lou was raised on the farm near Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School. On June 30, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1955. Lou was united in marriage to Norma Harrop in 1956. Her death was in 1985. In 1986, he was united in marriage to Norma (Kingsley) Splattstoesser.

Following his discharge from the military, Lou worked for the Egg Company. He was then employed by Grand Island Utilities and was production engineer for the Power Plant, from which he retired in 1995.

Lou was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the VFW, Platt-Duetsche, and a lifetime member of the Eagles. He was an avid Husker fan. His enjoyments included traveling to Arizona for the winters, playing horseshoes, hunting and sharing his deer jerky. His memory will be cherished by many.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Lou’s name.

James L. 'Jim' Gabel

James L. ‘Jim’ Gabel, 58, of Grand Island died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva following a farming accident.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church Life Center. The Rev. Michael Reiners will officiate. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mr. Gabel was born icon November 24, 1953, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the son of Raymond and Martha (Schoeneman) Gabel.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra ‘Sandy’; children, Melanie Gabel of Grand Island and Britton and his wife, Erin, of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan and Kay Gabel of Gering, NE and Frank and Alyce Gabel of Alamogordo, NM; and sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Dennis Zitterkopf of Houston, TX and sister-in-law, Kay Gabel of Scottsbluff.

He is also survived by a granddaughter, Alexandria ‘Lexie’ Coakley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry.

Jim grew up at Scottsbluff, receiving his education at Victory Hill School and Scottsbluff High School, graduating with the class of 1972.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Strauch on February 15, 1975. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed north of Scottsbluff. In 1985, they moved to central Iowa. In 1987, they made Grand Island their home. Jim worked in the seed corn industry. He was with NC+ and Fontanelle, then Northrup King and Garst. In 2011 he began working for Allied Seed Genetics.

Jim was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed teaching young people about 4-H and was very involved in 4-H as a leader and later, swine judge. He enjoyed Husker football, fishing, hunting and gardening. He had a passion for smoking and cooking meat and loved walking his dog, Ike.

Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Building Fund, Trinity Lutheran School or Heartland High School.

David E. Gerlach

David E. Gerlach, Sr., 63, of Grand Island, died Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Father Harold Kurtenbach will officiate. To honor David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will follow the service at Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard.

Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with a Christian Wake service at 7:00 p.m.

David was born icon May 5, 1949, at Broken Bow, Nebraska, the son of Donald and Marva (Best) Gerlach.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia; mother, Marva Gerlach of Aurora; sons, David Gerlach, Jr. and Thomas Gerlach, both of Escondido, California; stepson, David Cemper (Corissa) of Grand Island; stepdaughter, Jamie Menagh (Mike) of Grand Island; and sisters, Barbara Bice of Mead, NE and Ann Lindauer (Paul) of Boise, Idaho.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, David III, Riley, Bria, Caden, Alec, Isaac, Elijah and Sadie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gerlach; his grandparents; brother, Bill Gerlach and nephew, Danny Gerlach.

David grew up and attended school at Broken Bow and Aurora. He volunteered for the draft and was enlisted in the United States Army on April 17, 1968, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1970, at Fort Hood, Texas, after serving with the 1st Battalion, 81st Armor Regiment, 1st Armed Division. A proud moment in David’s career was when he earned Sgt E-5 in only 18 months.

David was united in marriage to Sandy Wengler on March 17, 1968. Two sons were born icon to that marriage. He was later united in marriage to Patricia Diessner on September 5, 1994.

He was employed by Sperry-New Holland, retiring in 1999 after 25 years, due to ill health.

David enjoyed car racing and college football. He was proud of his extensive die cast car collection. David will be remembered as a loving husband and a good friend to many.

A memorial will be established in David’s name.

Eli A. Gonzales

Eli A. Gonzales, 68 of Grand Island died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at home with his family by his side.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Reverend Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate. Cremation will take place following the service with burial of ashes at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Gonzales was born icon May 27, 1943 at Grand Island the son of Jose and Susie (Rosales) Gonzales.

Survivors are his children, Jodi and Bob Black of Flower Mound, TX, Carrie and Doug Galvan of Grand Island, Stefanie and Eugene Wenceslao of San Diego, CA, Brian Gonzales of Houston, TX and Tara Gonzales of Grand Island; brothers and sister-in-law, Tom and Barb Gonzales of Buena Park, CA and Bill Ramirez of Lincoln, NE and sisters and brother-in-law, Geraldine Barrientos of Grand Island, Lainie and Ken Kotinek of Grand Island and Bobbie Gonzales of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Anthony and Aaron Galvan, Josh Calhoun, Eli Gonzales and Caitlyn Black. His parents and brothers, Fil and Jimmy preceded him in death.

Eli was raised and received his education in Grand Island. He was united in marriage to Sandra Hansen on September 7, 1961. He worked for Wilson Concrete, Redman Industries, Greer Mobile Homes, Swift and the Grand Island Police Department. He then owned and operated Eli’s Lounge.

He was a member of St. Mary’s, Knights of Columbus, and Grand Island Softball Association and served on the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries.

Eli truly lived life to the fullest. He was very active in sports; whether he was participating or coaching. He also had a great love for music and dancing. Music could be heard playing throughout the house on any given day and he was always willing to show off his dance moves. Eli was charismatic, with a great sense of humor, and you could always count on him for the latest joke. He had an amazing ability to connect with people, and his smile & laughter were infectious. So it comes as no surprise that even after his accident in 1980, Eli’s outlook on life never wavered. He could still be found at the ball field or on the sidelines shouting, “You see one you like, you tag it!” You could still hear music playing in the house, and his wheelchair didn’t keep him from dancing. He left a great impression on his children and grandchildren and taught us all how to make the best out of what life throws at us. He endured many, many struggles the past 31 years, but he fought the good fight with dignity and class. He is loved by countless and he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers an Eli Gonzales memorial scholarship fund will be established.

Doris 'Eileen' Hagan

Doris ‘Eileen’ Hagan, 90 of Grand Island died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home.

Celebration services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hagan was born icon May 4, 1922 at Spencer County, Indiana the daughter of John and Elzora (England) Jessie.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Carl; children and their spouses, Ron and Debbie Hagan of Farwell and Darla and Willie Wagner of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Cindy, Karen, Michelle, Michael, Sheila, Rob and Bryan; step-grandchildren, Stacy, Don, Jason and Joy; fourteen great-grandchildren, thirteen step great-grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters, Harley Jessie, Guy Jessie, Emma Ricker, Betty Tremper, Ann Henager, Marge Serfiniak, Paul Jessie, Jim Jessie and Kathleen Corsini.

Eileen graduated from Lindblom High School in Chicago. She was united in marriage to Carl Edward Hagan on August 3, 1940. They lived in Chicago before buying and operating a fishing lodge in Minnesota in 1963. They moved to Grand Island in 1977.

Eileen was a homemaker and found great joy and pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, knitting and playing cards.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
