Emmett Charles Arnett

Emmett Charles Arnett, 72, of Grand Island, died Monday, February 6, 2012 of Alzheimer’s.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., February 11, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Bob Rhodes will officiate. . Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The family would like to honor Emmett’s love of the game and his involvement in sports throughout his life by wearing Nebraska Husker attire at the visitation and welcome anyone that would like to do the same.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Emmett was born icon June 10, 1939, at Phillips, Nebraska, the son of Orville and Irene (Rediger) Arnett.

He grew up on the family dairy farm near Hampton. He graduated from Hampton High School and soon after joined the Army. He served from August of 1957 to July of 1959. He remained with the reserves until 1963.

Emmett married Delores Lehman on October, 16 1960 at Trinity United Methodist Church and they made their home in Grand Island.

Emmett started work with the Grand Island Police Department from 1961 to 1971. He then became a Hall county Sheriff’s Deputy. He was appointed Hall County Sheriff in 1987 and he retired in 1995. Emmett then worked for Hall County Corrections until he again retired in 2007. He also received many certificates and attended numerous training seminars while in Law enforcement.

He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Police Officers Association and the Sheriff’s Officers Association in Grand Island.

Emmett loved to camp, fish, hunt, and work in the yard. He enjoyed sports, especially golf, basketball and baseball. He was an avid Husker fan and more than anything enjoyed going to his grandkids activities.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Delores; daughter Carrie Arnett of Grand Island; sons and their spouses, Todd and Denise Arnett of Grand Island, Matt and Pam of Hampton, and Bradley and Joni Arnett of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish his memory one brother and his spouse, Roger and Ione Arnett of Aurora; one sister, Joan Kissel of Aurora; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph Ahlers, Angela Ahlers, Sebrina and Josh Bergmeier, T.J. Roe, Christopher Arnett, Cole Arnett, Caleb Arnett and Natasha Arnett; and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gale Arnett; and an uncle, former Fire Chief, George Arnett.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family.

Geraldine "Jeri" Barrientos

Geraldine “Jeri” Barrientos, 71 of Grand Island, died Monday, February 13, 2012 at Wedgewood Care Center with her family by her side.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Reverend Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

To honor Jeri’s wishes cremation has taken place. Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday with rosary at 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Jeri was born icon June 12, 1940 at Grand Island the daughter of Joseph and Susie (Rosales) Gonzales.

Survivors are her children and their spouses, Tammy and Darold Brown, Joe and Sharon Barrientos, Teri and Terry Fredrickson, Jamie and Jami Barrientos all of Grand Island and Traci Barrientos of Lincoln; sisters and brother-in-law, Lainie and Ken Kotinek and Bobbie Gonzales all of Grand Island and brothers and sister-in-law, Tommy and Barb Gonzales of California and Billy Ramirez of Lincoln.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Mandi Monterosso, Kayla, Zane and Adam Brown, Quirt and Ciara Barrientos, Taylor and Tali Fredrickson, Tyler, Kambyn and Broxton Barrientos and Jordan, Greenlee and Killion Barrientos and great-grandson, Dominic Monterosso and many friends.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents; brothers, James, Fil and Eli Gonzales and grandson, Nathan Fiala.

Jeri was raised in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Central Catholic, class of 1958. She made her home in Grand Island where she worked at the family restaurant ‘Casa de Gonzales’. She retired from Chief Electronic Display Systems.

Jeri is a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral. She was very active with her children and grandchildren activities. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.

A memorial fund will be established in Jeri’s name.

Robert 'Bob' Selleck Bemis

Robert ‘Bob’ Selleck Bemis, 63, of Grand Island, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, with his family by his side.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel.

Chaplain Dorothy Molczyk will officiate. To honor Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

There will be a gathering of family and friends an hour prior to service time.

Bob was born icon November 1, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Robert and Florence Barbara (Selleck) Bemis.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lori Bemis; daughters and son-in-law, Stacy Evans of Grand Island and Niki and Andy Kyhn of Omaha; and three grandchildren, Austin, Michaela and Avery.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Bob grew up in Omaha, graduating from Westside High School, Class of 1967. In 1971, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

He was united in marriage to Lori Branson on September 10, 1982 in Omaha.

Bob was in liquor sales for over 20 years; in Omaha and after the family relocated to Grand Island in 1983. He was employed by Finocchiaro Wine Company and United Distributors. He later worked for Yellow Book USA until retiring due to health issues.

Bob loved being a salesman and the traveling involved. His enjoyments included golfing and fishing. An avid Nebraska football fan, he was a season ticket holder. Over the years, Bob had many dogs whom he loved dearly. They were waiting to escort him home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Joseph Ronald Beran

Joseph Ronald Beran was born icon April 26, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Joseph Francis and Lucille Marion (Fortin) Beran. He passed away on Tuesday afternoon, September 4, 2012 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa at the age of 62 years, 4 months and 9 days.

There will be a Memorial Service held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

Visitation with the family present will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Joe grew in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1968. On January 9, 1971, he was united in marriage to Barbara LoAnn Bredensteiner in Lincoln, Nebraska. This union was blessed with four children, Joe, Jeff, Danny and Kerri.

He worked for Union Pacific Railroad before going to work at Sperry’s New Holland for 25+ years. He lived his entire life in Grand Island until he moved to Northboro, Iowa to care for his mother-in-law in 2008. Joe enjoyed sports, especially playing baseball and fast pitch softball. He also liked umpiring American Legion Baseball. Joe also served as an Assistant Scout Leader for Troop 120 in Grand Island and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Joe loved the outdoors, fishing and finding the big buck while deer hunting. Joe also attended the Locust Grove Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; a son, Timothy; and two sisters, Marge and Karla.

Survivors include his wife, LoAnn Beran of Northboro, Iowa; his children, Joe Beran and his wife Kim of Grand Island, Nebraska, Jeff Beran and Danielle Garcia of Omaha, Nebraska, Danny Beran and his wife Karla of Grand Island, Nebraska, Kerri Beran of Shenandoah, Iowa; five grandchildren, Blake Beran, Alexis Zito, Kinsley Beran, Ryan Gill and Justin Gill; a brother, Doug Beran and his wife Cindy of Grand Island, Nebraska; a sister, Pam Kendall and her husband Randy of Grand Island, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, David Bredensteiner of Bedford, Iowa, Scott Bredensteiner and his wife Sandy of Pflugerville, Texas; along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund is being established in Joe’s name.

Milton W. Blomquist

Milton W. Blomquist, 73, of Grand Island, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at his home with his family at his side.

To honor his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mr. Blomquist was born icon July 11, 1938 in Grand Island, the son of Walter and Lola (Brundage) Blomquist.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Craig Blomquist (Kiley Bera) and Wendy Blomquist (Philip Griess), all of Grand Island.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Baylee, Chaz and Chyna; a great granddaughter, Honesty; a half sister Janice (Mike) Neaterous of Russellville, Arkansas; and several cousins, including Doyle (Peg) Brundage, Darrel (Yvonne) Brundage, Sheryl (Larry) Saathoff, Ron (Cheryl) Brundage, Joy Wenzl and Jean Bernth.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Milton grew up and attended school in the Gibbon area. He entered the United States Air Force January of 1957 and was honorably discharged January 13,1961. He was employed by Kinman Chevrolet, Demers Standard Station and by BNSF Railway in the Bridges and Buildings Department for 23 years.

Milton loved old cars, loved working on cars and had a knack for making them run like new again. He was an avid coin collector. He loved going to the casino, whether it was in Las Vegas, Ft. Randall or Council Bluffs. He also loved to travel and would often get in the car and set out without a destination in mind. Milton was always ready with a helping hand to help out in whatever way he was needed.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Paulette "Polly" Rose Chelewski

Paulette “Polly” Rose Chelewski, 60 of Grand Island died Monday, March 05, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center with her family by her side.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Speakers Garth Wilson and Shannon Matson will be officiating. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Grand Island Cemetery.

There will be not visitation. Cremation has taken place.

Ms. Chelewski was born icon June 15, 1951 at Grand Island the daughter of Stanley and Hattie (Lorance) Chelewski.

Survivors are brothers and sisters-in-law, Norm and Marcy Bennett of Grand Island and Ron and Lyla Bennett of Grand Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Steve Warnke of Grand Island and Angie and Garth Wilson of Blanding, Utah; half brothers and sisters, Raymond, Paul, Sally, Jeanne and Christine.

Polly was also greatly loved by her nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lyle and sister, Ramona.

Polly was raised in Grand Island. She enjoyed working at Goodwill Industries and was a member of ARC. Some of her enjoyments included bowling, playing basketball, All Star Wrestling, dancing and she looked forward to her birthdays. Most of all she enjoyed sharing her love with her family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

C. Irene Coates

C. Irene Coates, 84 of Grand Island, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 14 th at Trinity United Methodist Church. Reverend Matthew Fowler will officiate. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Beaver Crossing Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Coates was born icon May 27, 1927 at Bond County, Illinois the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Willeford) Stone.

Her husband, Reverend Harold Coates preceded her in death on October 5, 1986.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Kris Coates of Chapman, NE, The Reverend Dale Coates of Arnold, NE, Duane and Kim Coates of Grand Island and Glenn and Amy Coates of Blair, NE; daughter-in-law, Carole Coates of Parks, NE and sisters, Ruth Viola Dace of Sullivan, Missouri and Louise Lewis of Hazelwood, Missouri.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Darrell Chancellor, Elizabeth and Tom Kehler, Michelle and James Cowgill, Adam Coates and fiancé Jen, Angie and Tim Wolf, Sarah and Estephan Ramos, Ashley and Andrew Smallwood, Mikala Coates and fiancé Alex, Katie Coates and Allie Coates and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was welcomed into heaven by son, Gary Coates who died October 3, 2011 and her parents.

Irene lived on the family farm until age 11 when she moved to Sullivan, Missouri where she graduated from Sullivan High School. She attended Kendall College at Evanston, Illinois.

On June 20, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harold James Coates at Sullivan.

Mr. Coates was a pastor having served many communities in Nebraska. Following her husbands passing, Irene served three parishes. She retired and moved to Grand Island in 1997.

Irene attended Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island. She was a member of the Community Concert Association; Literacy Council having taught English as a second language; United Methodist Women, Church Women United, Camp Farthest Out and Walk to Emmaus and was a 4-H Leader. While in Madison, NE she helped start the Senior Citizens Center. Irene took a leadership role in all of her church communities.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
