Larry Darwin Coffin

Larry Darwin Coffin, 67 of Grand Island, died Sunday August 12, 2012 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Thursday, September 27th at 4:30 p.m. at the Platt-Duetsche.

To honor Larry’s wishes cremation has taken place. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Larry was born icon on July 7, 1945 at Omaha the son of Darwin and Betty (McGuire) Coffin.

Survivors include his wife, Alyce; sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Diane Coffin of Omaha, Kevin Coffin of Wichita, KS and Larry (Jake) and Leanne Coffin of Cary, North Carolina; step-children, Cayla Godel of Lansing, Michigan, Christopher Godel of Grand Island; brother, Steve Coffin of Wisconsin and sister and brother-in-law, Sandi and Jim Wellman of Phoenix.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Emily, Madison and Jacob and step-grandchildren, Alyson, Honesty, Eddie, Jr. and Cali; two fat dogs, Lucky and Molly and three crazy cats, Pita, Gemini and #9.

He is preceded in death by his parents and several beloved pets.

Larry was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1963. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for four years. He married Mae Clebinger in 1969. On February 17, 2005 he was united in marriage to Alyce (Garrard) Godel.

Larry owned two convenient stores, Coffin’s Corner and Snac-Shac for 31 years. As a business owner he got to watch four beautiful girls grow from “Coffin’s Kittens to Coffin’s Cats”. They will always be in his heart.

Some of Larry’s enjoyments where fishing and camping with the boys when they were young. As they got older, he couldn’t wait for every June when the annual father’s day “My three son’s baseball trip” took place.

Larry as a man was a caring husband and friend and his generosity was well documented. As a brother he was always in competition with his sister whether driving their mutual 55 Chevy in their teens, competing in grades or trying to beat her in the annual golf outings at Riverside. He was her adversary but always her brother. She will miss their talks and sharing their lives together. “I hope you finally found your peace, my brother.”

Alyssa Leigh Daniel

Alyssa Leigh Daniel, 8 of Grand Island died January 1, 2012 at home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church. Reverend Gary Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Alyssa was born icon October 29, 2003 at Omaha, Nebraska.

Survivors are her parents, Holly Hanson and Michael Daniel of Grand Island; brother, Khale at home; grandparents, Tom and Mary Ann Hanson, and Lorrie Daniel of Grand Island; great-grandparents, Ruth Steen of Minden, Frances Daniel and Larry Hanson of Grand Island and uncles, Paul Hanson of Omaha and Ryan Daniel of Lincoln.

She is preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Margaret Hanson, Calvin Steen and Donald Daniel.

Alyssa is a special little angel that has touched many hearts in a short time. She had a collection of stuffed frogs which stood for, FROG ‘Fully Rely On God’. Her family would like to thank Dr. Agnes Gomes and the staff of Craig Home Care for their compassionate care.

Robert (Bob) Denman

Robert (Bob) Denman, 80 of Grand Island, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Grand Island Veterans Administration Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery near Doniphan with military honors provided by United States Navy and American Legion Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Denman was born icon June 24, 1931 at Doniphan the son of Clifford and Pearl (Kingston) Denman.

He is preceded in death by his wife Maxine; son-in-law, Rick Butler and brother, Elvin Denman.

Survivors include his daughters, Beverly Denman and Ilene Butler both of Hastings; step-children, Cheryl Buckmaster of Lincoln, Gwen Bamesberger and her friend, Rick Stelk of Alda and Steve and Sara Hurt of Elm Creek; sisters, Mary Ann Bowden of Wood River and Lola and Bernard Cosgriff of Doniphan and sister-in-law, Carline Denman of Grand Island.

Other survivors are grandchildren, Megan Denman, Andy Butler, Christopher Spencer, Joshua Spencer, Bryce Racek, Bree Bamesberger, Brittany Bamesberger, Brandon Stelk, Breanna Stelk, Brian and Angie Butler and Jenny and Steve Ziemba; great-grandchildren, Kaylene Hartman, Peyton Spencer, Alyssa and Ashlyn Ziemba, Jaden, Addison and Emmy Butler and his “adopted great-grandchildren”, Olivia and Isabel Mancinas.

Bob was raised on the family farm near Doniphan. He entered the United States Navy on March 8, 1951 serving during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged on February 28, 1955. He was united in marriage to Janet Halstead in 1951. Following the military he farmed. For many years he delivered gas to the Hastings and Grand Island area. Later he began working at New Holland and retired from Pioneer Hybrids in 1993. He married Maxine Hurt on February 6, 1976.

Bob is a member of the Doniphan American Legion and the Platt-Duetsche Society. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, camping, small engine repair, gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels, playing softball at the Platt-Duetsche during his younger years and spending time with his grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Veterans Hospital Hospice.

Michael G. "Mike" Dimmitt

Michael G. “Mike” Dimmitt, 57, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at The V.A Medical Center in Grand Island.

A Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Bob Rhodes will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.

Mike was born icon on June 2, 1954 at Grand Island, NE, the son of Gordon and Glendora ( Murray) Dimmitt.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Deb; his parents, daughter, Amanda Jenneman of Grand Island; his sons and their wives, Kirk and Tara Dimmitt of Phillips and Eric and Jamie Dimmitt of Lincoln; brother, Roger Dimmitt of Grand Island and a sister and brother in law, Kathy and Dave Dowty of York; and step-daughters, Dawn Love and Tammy Love of Grand Island, NE.

Those also left to cherish his memory are three grandkids and 5 step grandkids; Dakota Love, Anthony Jenneman, Ashley Jenneman, Kionah Love, Nakya Love, Kayleigh Dimmitt, Julio Love, Cesar Love and his dog, Chloe.

Mike was raised in Grand Island. He married Debra Allen (Love) on August 10, 2004 at Grand Island, where they made their home. He joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served from July 13, 1971 to September 18, 1974. Mike also worked for Jil Asphalt in Grand Island.

He is a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Francis Willard Gidmond

Francis Willard Gidmond, 88 of Grand Island, died Friday, January 13, 2012 at Golden Living Center-Lakeview.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.

Mr. Gidmond was born icon January 14, 1923 at Cambridge, NE the son of Gustabus and Annie (Williams) Gidmond.

His wife Pearl preceded him in death on April 7, 2008.

He is survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Gidmond.

Francis graduated from Havana High School, Havana, Nebraska in 1942 with a graduating class of six boys. He married Pearl Campbell on January 22, 1952 in Denver, CO. He was employed as a mechanic. When he and Pearl moved back to Grand Island, he worked for Nebraska Peterbilt until his retirement.

Following his retirement he worked for Motel 8 for several years. He and Pearl volunteered for the Community Supplement Food Program.

Robert William Giesenhagen

Robert William Giesenhagen, 81 of Grand Island died Friday, March 09, 2012 at Golden Living Center at Lakeview following complications related to Alzheimer’s disease.

Mr. Giesenhagen wishes of cremation and no services will be honored.

Mr. Giesenhagen was born icon September 16, 1930 in Grand Island the son of William and Olivia (Johnson) Giesenhagen.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife Sandy; two sons and daughter-in-law, Rex Giesenhagen of Gretna and Russ and Sheree Giesenhagen of Grand Island and daughter, Lynn Giesenhagen of Sanford, Florida and his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Maggie Giesenhagen of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Other survivors are grandchildren, John Giesenhagen of Grand Island and Sarah Giesenhagen of California and one great grandson, Rylan Giesenhagen of Grand Island; and one step-son, Bryan Runge of Elba and two step-daughters, Lisa Talley of Woodstock, Georgia and Jennifer and husband Robbie Forrester of Highlands, NC and several step-grandchildren.

Bob grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior high in 1948. After graduation he worked as a draftsman for the Geer-Maurer Company and Claussen & Sons Construction Companies in Grand Island. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon his return home he continued working for Claussen & Sons. In 1962 he created Mid-Plains Construction Company. In 1984 he moved to Fountain Hills, AZ and started a new company RW Inc. Construction. In 1990 he returned to Grand Island where he later retired.

Bob married Helen Banes in December of 1951. The couple had three children, Rex, Russ and Lynn. Bob was preceded in death by Helen in 1989.

He began a loving relationship with Sandra James in 2004. The couple was married in February of 2006 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.

Although the construction business was his professional focus, Bob was also active in the community, serving on various boards including banks, the Chamber of Commerce and Fonner Park. He was a lifetime member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and several community organizations.

Bob also enjoyed horseback riding, antique collecting and antique restoration.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Helen Barnes.

Friends who wish to make a memorial may do so to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of their choice.

Larry L. Hassler

Larry L. Hassler, 73 of Grand Island died Monday, June 11, 2012 at home following a courageous bout with cancer.

Celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Caroline Price-Gibson and Chaplain Steve Shanno will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Hassler was born icon November 7, 1938 at Washington, Kansas the son of Gene and Virginia (Collins) Hassler.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gwendolyn; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Lonnie Berger of York, NE, Cynthia Nagaki of Grand Island, Cheryl and Bryan Jones of Sidney, NE and Amy and Monte Holyfield of Golden, CO and brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Cheryl Hassler of Lincoln, NE.

Those also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Justin, Sean, Nicholas, Ashley, Brennan, Oliver, Elliot, Carolyn, Jacob and Mandy.

He was welcomed into heaven by his parents and grandson, Phillip.

Larry graduated from Scottsbluff High School, class of 1956 and attended Scottsbluff Junior College. He served in the Nebraska National Guard.

On October 4, 1957 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Gwendolyn Strachan. They lived in Scottsbluff where Larry worked for American Loan Company until transferring to Marshall, Missouri. Larry completed his education from Central Missouri State College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting. They moved to Grand Island in 1967 where he worked as a national bank examiner for 13 years. They moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1980 and then to Kemmerer, Wyoming in 1982. Larry served as President of First Wyoming Bank in Kemmerer. They moved to Anita, Iowa where he was President of Anita State Bank. Larry was in banking for over 30 years. Together they owned and operated a motel in Fort Madison, Iowa. Following retirement they moved back to Grand Island in 2000 where Larry became a Real Estate Agent.

Memberships include First Presbyterian Church; Grand Island Rotary Club; Paul Harris Rotary Foundation member and a member of the Board of Realtors. Larry enjoyed bicycling, hunting, fishing, golfing and playing bridge. Most of all, Larry enjoyed being a husband, father and grandfather to his wonderful family.

Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church.
